ABS-CBN Overtakes GMA7 in Mega and Metro Manila

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, dominated Philippine television in May with average audience share of ABS-CBN’s growing to 37% in May or six points higher than GMA’s 31%.

Even more Filipinos across the country tuned in to ABS-CBN primetime (6 PM to 12MN) last month, beating GMA Network in its strong-hold areas Mega and Metro Manila on the timeblock that has the most number of TV viewers.

Data from Kantar Media show that ABS-CBN’s primetime programs improved its average national audience share to 44% or a 16-point lead vs GMA’s 28%. While ABS-CBN experienced an uptick from 43% in April, GMA suffered a drop from 30% last month.

GMA’s decline in primetime viewership is also seen in Mega and Metro Manila. ABS-CBN registered a 34% audience share vs GMA’s 33% in Mega Manila. ABS-CBN’s lead over GMA in Metro Manila was even bigger. ABS-CBN got 36% audience share vs GMA’s 31%.

ABS-CBN’s “TV Patrol” continues to be the country’s most watched and the most credible TV news program with an average rating of 25.1% vs “24 Oras” of GMA with only 16.6%. It also won in Mega Manila last May 27 with 23.6% vs “24 Oras” (22%) and in Metro Manila (24-31 May) with an average rating of 23% vs “24 Oras” 20%.

Even on radio, “TV Patrol” on DZMM received a 20% audience share among Mega Manila listeners in from April as compared to “24 Oras” on DZBB with only 15%, based on Nielsen’s Mega Manila Radio Audience Measurement survey.

“TV Patrol” was also cited as the most credible source by respondents in a recent survey by StratPolls Inc. 45.6% of Filipinos cited “TV Patrol” as the ‘most credible’ news reader team on television while 41.2% cited the team of “24 Oras.” This survey covered the period April 25 to 29, 2011.

ABS-CBN took all the top 12 slots in the list of top regular programs for the month of May with “100 Days to Heaven” leading with an average ratings of 32.6%.

Joining the top 12 regular programs were “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (32.5%), “Mara Clara” (32.4%), “Mutya” (30.9%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (28.5%), “Pilipinas Got Talent” (23.6%), “Rated K” (23%), “Wansapanataym” (23%), “Gandang Gabi Vice” (21.4%), “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” (20.5%), and “Goin Bulilit” (19.4%).

ABS-CBN’s new offerings outperformed GMA’s new shows. ABS-CBN’s talk show “Gandang Gabi Vice” and reality show “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition” rated higher than GMA’s best bet “Amaya” (19.4%) even when shown at an earlier primetime slot.

ABS-CBN’s noontime show “Happy Yipee Yehey” continues to beat GMA’s “Eat Bulaga” in southern Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao. In May, “Happy Yipee Yehey” rated 12.4% vs “Eat Bulaga’s” 10.7% in southern Luzon, 16% vs 8.4% in the Visayas, and 14.1% vs 6.8% in Mindanao. It is gaining ground in Northern Luzon.

In Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), ABS-CBN enjoyed a bigger lead with 41% audience shares vs GMA’s 32%.

In the Visayas, ABS-CBN pulled away with a 57% audience share vs GMA’s 21%. In Mindanao, ABS-CBN’s audience share averaged 53% vs GMA’s 17%.

ABS-CBN’s AM radio station continues to dominate Mega Manila as it posed a 38% audience share in April versus DZRH with 15%, based on NMMRAM. GMA’s DZBB was far third with 14%.

Kantar Media started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Kantar Media’s current subscribers include ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Kris Aquino Reveals Details About Upcoming Talk Show

This July, Kris Aquino will go back to her roots via her upcoming talk show that is reminiscent of her previous morning talk-show, Today With Kris (1996-2001). “I’m excited,” she began. “Never ending ‘yung pagmi-meeting but it’s really exciting. I saw the set already, nakakatuwa kasi parang 15 years after Today With Kris, a lot of the elements that was in that show ti-nweak para magmukhang 2011. Pati ‘yung backdrop, eh. Ewan ko kung dapat ba ma-flatter ako o dapat ma-feel ko, ah matanda na pala ako.”

The Queen of Talk shared that she sometimes realized how long it has been since she hosted her previous morning talk show. “Kasi andaming nagsasabi sa akin, ‘I grew up watching that show.’ Tsaka ‘yung mga tao ngayon may mga trabaho na nasa college na nakalakihan na siguro nila kase ‘pag nasa bahay it started 11 in the morning.”

Just like her previous morning program, Kris is happy to host a new show (working title is Kris TV or KTV) that will cater not only to housewives but also to husbands. “Maganda ‘yung format kasi it’s everything na gustong mapanood ng mga kababaihan [at] marami rin palang house-husbands na nandoon because ang asawa are either OFWs or mga asawa nila ang nasa call-center at toka nila ang pagbabantay ng umaga.”

Kris added that she has realized that she prefers to do morning shows. “Gustong-gusto ko ang umaga pala. Masarap palang gumising nang maaga pala basta makatulog ka lang ng maaga masarap.”

On a more personal note, Kris was very careful with her statements when was asked about her love life. Members of the press inquired if there was a special someone who was making her happy nowadays. “Wala. Kung meron talaga if it happens in life again and ma-bless ako, sa show ko na po sasabihin sa July,” she answered.

Kris was also very cautious about her comments when it comes to her brother President Noynoy Aquino’s love life. “Ayoko talaga, takot ako,” she said. She recalled the instances when her comments about her brother’s romantic life have earned her criticisms and landing her in the headlines. “Wala akong take, we all just want his happiness kasi ‘di ba a happy president will be an inspired president.”

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition Proves to be a Heavyweight

The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition,” the newest offering from reality show capital ABS-CBN, has proven to be a heavyweight not just in the ratings game but also in the hearts of viewers.

The show even became a top trending topic in Twitter during its pilot airing with people tweeting their sentiments as they were touched if not inspired by the stories and determination of the contestants.

After posting a rating of 20.5 percent on its premiere telecast based on the national TV ratings from Kantar Media last Monday (May 30), the Sharon Cuneta-hosted reality show has consistently crushed competition and entered the top five TV programs in the country on a daily basis.

More importantly, the inspiring stories of the 14 “Bigating Pinoy” contestants have moved viewers, even Sharon herself.

When the Megastar first met the contestants, who from being 12 became 14 after an early twist in the competition, they felt star-struck and were at loss for words. But the scenes during the recent weigh-in would show the iconic singer-actress was just as at awe and honored to have met them.

Obviously fighting tears, Sharon made a surprising revelation while the contestants lined up to find out their starting weight.

“I had a midlife crisis. I was very angry. ‘Cause I was everybody’s sweetheart all of a sudden I turned a year older, everybody changed. And I lost all desire to look good,” she bravely said.

But after seeing the determination of the 14 to face the truth about their condition and their determination to transform their lives, Sharon regained faith in herself to change for the better.

“Thank you for making me feel this. I will work hard to slim down and get back in shape,” she said.

Her encouragements and own sharing created an impact on the 14—Alan, Art, Eboy, Eric, JM, Larry, Raffy, Ryan, Angela, Destiny, Edden, Joy, Hazel, at Winwin—because she made them feel they have one more ally in their journey.

Winwin said she feels at home in the camp, because they have someone who understands them and really cares for them. Raffy also said that his respect for the revered actress even grew higher.

The contestants weren’t the only ones positively affected by Sharon’s approach as a host.

Wilbur Ryan Serrano said in Twitter, “I feel yung sincerity ni #sharoncuneta sa mga @BLPinoyEdition ..if theres a will..theres a way…go go go!!”

In the popular forum Pinoyexchange izzzzzlaw also posted “gusto ko maghost dito si ate shawie kase may sympathy sya sa mga contstants , at nagmomotivate sa kanila..”

The people behind the program, meanwhile, hope that while viewers continue to support the program, they also begin transforming their own lives, even if it’s not obesity they have to fight.

On the coming days, they will get to see more action as the trainers Jim Saret and Chinggay Andrada begin the rigorous training for their respective teams. Using different methods, the two are wasting no time in getting the contestants to lose as much weight in time for the weigh-in next week. After all, the group with the lesser average percentage of weight-loss will have to pick one member from their team to oust in the show.

Which “Bigating Pinoy” will fall first and which team will win the challenges with game master Derek Ramsay?

Don’t miss the exciting developments in the reality show that will bring big changes to the lives of every Filipino, “The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition,” Monday to Friday on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida.

Camarines Sur Governor L-Ray Villafuerte on The Bottomline

Another government official takes the hot seat this Saturday as Camarines Sur Governor L-Ray Villafuerte comes face to face with the King of Talk on “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.

Coming from a political clan, being on public service is not new to Governor L-Ray. Before, CamSur was considered to be one of the poorest provinces in the country. However, changes started to apply when L-Ray was elected on 2004 as the Governor of the said province.

Tourist started to flood the province especially when the Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) was developed. This is where the sport wakeboarding was first introduced. It is also Governor L-Ray who pushed the El Verde Movement. This movement aims to plant 12 million trees by 2012. The governor also plans to make CamSur as the “Singapore of the Philippines.”

However, despite the success, changes and good intentions for CamSur, controversy still seeped in the life of Gov. L-Ray. His issue with DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo is still a talk of the town. Is there any truth to the controversy that up to now, CWC still has unliquidated cash advances?

Will Gov. L-Ray run for the senate on 2013? Will his family support his decision if ever he decides to run? What is his opinion on the issue that his son Miguel admires PopStar Princess Sarah Geronimo? Is he really a womanizer? Also, will his wife run for governor of CamSur in the future?

Find out as Governor L-Ray toughly answers the questions hurled at him on “The Bottomline with Boy Abunda” this Saturday, after Banana Split primetime on ABS-CBN.

Kim Chiu Found New Friendship With Maja Salvador and Angelica Panganiban

Actress Kim Chiu revealed that she has found new friends, actresses Maja Salvador and Angelica Panganiban.

In an interview with "Showbiz News Ngayon", Chiu admitted that she is now enjoying the company of the 2 young actresses.

"Okay sila. Nakakatuwa kapag kasama ko sila. At kapag kasama ko sila ay tawa ako ng tawa," Chiu said.

Chiu made the statement following reports that her friendship with old friend Erich Gonzales is now on the rocks.

"Ang dami kong naging mga kaibigan. Hindi ko alam kung bakit hindi ko pwedeng gawin 'yon [makipagkaibigan sa iba]. Gusto ko marami para masaya at saka iba-iba ang ugali, iba-iba ang experience," Chiu explained.

Report has it that Gonzales and Chiu had a misunderstanding after Gonzales secretly met Panganiban's longtime boyfriend Derek Ramsay.

Chiu reportedly was the one who told Panganiban about the said meeting.

When asked for her reaction on the said issue, Chiu replied: "Eh huwag na lang. Hindi na po [ako magsasalita]."

Valerie Concepcion Chooses 100 Days to Heaven Over TV5's Series

Valerie Concepcion, an actress, a host and an endorser chooses ABS-CBN’s ”100 Days to Heaven” over TV5′s “Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak”. The actress is a cast of both shows and is seen on the two shows, both on primetime slot.

The ABS-CBN management find this as inappropriate and gave the actress up to the month of June to be seen in the other network’s show. The network explains that it is a must that they do this because other artist might do the same thing if they wont do anything about this.

When the actress was asked about her reaction to this she replied ”Respeto na rin. Para na rin wala nang mga issue.” She also added that there are instances when she thanks televiewers who are watching 100 Days to heaven and Mga Nagbabagang Bulaklak via tweeter and people would tweet back, “To what network do you really belong? 2 or 5?”

To avoid confusion, the actress said that she will focus her time on one network at the time.

Pinoy Biggest Loser Contestant, One of the Show's Heaviest Worldwide

Francisco "Eboy" Bautista, one of the contestants in ABS-CBN's "The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition", is one of the heaviest contestants in the reality show worldwide.

Bautista, 33, who hails from Parañaque City, weighed 481 lbs during the show's first weigh-in.

According to the show's host, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, among all the 14 contestants, Bautista was the biggest and one of the heaviest in the world.

"Eboy, ang iyong starting weight ay 481 lbs.," Cuneta said.

She added: "Sa 481 lbs., Eboy, isa ka sa pinakamabigat na 'Biggest Loser' contestants sa buong mundo," Cuneta said.

Because of that, Bautista is more motivated to shed those extra pounds.

"Hindi naman ito 'yung isa sa gusto mong ipagmalaki. Siyempre sa pagtanda mo at tanungin ka ano ang accomplishment mo, [ayokong sabihin na,] 'Ako ang pinakamabigat na contestant ever'," Bautista said.

Sharon vows to lose weight

Cuneta said she is really proud of the contestants who showed courage to step on the weighing scale during the first weigh-in.

She also bared to the 14 contestants the reason she herself gained weight and vowed that she will do her best to be fit again.

"There is one thing I want each and everyone of you to know tonight. You have renewed my faith in myself. When I hit 40, I had a midlife crisis. I was very angry. I was everyone's sweetheart. All of a sudden I turned a year old and everybody changed. And I lost all desire to look good and I never said that before. But you guys, nahihiya akong humarap sa inyo kasi nakikita ko lahat ang lakas at tapang ng loob niyo na humarap dito. Hindi ko kaya 'yan," she said.

"Maraming, maraming salamat. I'm privileged to be a part of this journey with you and knowing na ang gagaling ng 14 ko [na contestants] sa pagkatao, there's nothing you cannot conquer. Kasama niyo ako in every step of the way. So God bless each and everyone. Focus on how great you will look and how great you will feel. Thank you for making me feel this.
