ABS-CBN Tops April National Ratings Nationwide

Based on Kantar Media’s report, ABS-CBN continues to beat all networks on primetime with an audience share of 43 percent in April, or a 13 point lead over GMA Network’s 30%

ABS-CBN secured nine out of the ten most watched programs for April, excluding the Holy Week when advertisers discount the holidays in doing their media plan and local networks don’t do regular programming

“Mara Clara,” the country’s most-watched primetime teleserye for the past months, tied with weekend top-rater “Maalaala Mo Kaya” on the number one spot in April both with an average national rating of 32.5%

“Mutya,” on the other hand, claimed the second spot with 30.8% followed by Coco Martin starrer “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (30.7%) and the country’s number one talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” (29.3%).

“TV Patrol” (25%), which recently delivered its successful coverages of the Royal Wedding between Prince William of Wales and commoner Catherine Middleton, and the beatification of Blessed John Paul II, remains to be the undisputed and most trusted primetime newscast in the country.

Other shows in the top ten are “Wansapanataym” (24%), “Rated K” (21.8%), and the recently concluded soap on vampires and werewolves in “Imortal” (21.5%).

Overall, ABS-CBN’s national audience share for April reached 36% vs GMA’s 34%.

Kantar Media started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Kantar Media’s current subscribers include ABS-CBN, NBN, Sky Cable, J. Romero and Associates, Adformatix, Starcom, OMD, PhD, Mediacom, Mindshare, MEC, Maxus, Universal McCann, and Wellmade Manufacturing Corporation. They also include pan-regional networks likes CSM Media Inc., Fox International Channels, Star HK, Discovery, AXN, HBO, MTV, and Sony Pictures Television International.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

The consolidated net income of ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, jumped by P1.5 billion or 87% to P3.2 billion in 2010, a record-breaking performance for the Kapamilya network. ABS-CBN delivered consolidated revenues of P32.2 billion from advertising and consumer sales, posting an increase of P7.3 billion or 30% year-on-year

Kim Chiu Talks About Reconciliation With Gerald Anderson

During her birthday press con on May 2, Kim Chiu admitted that she and Gerald Anderson finally had closure when they went to dinner while they were in New York. “Yung dinner namin na yun, okay na kami. After ng pag-uusap namin, parang okay, back to normal na tayo, magkaibigan ulit. Masaya na kami, wala ng hang-ups.” She further stressed that there’s no chance for them to get back together at this point in time.

Kim claimed that their conversation over that dinner was very positive since there was no reason for them to bring up all the issues that plagued them last year.

As a matter of fact, Kim threw a birthday party at her house last Sunday and Gerald was one of her invited guests. She added that he gave her a kitchen showcase of sorts as a birthday gift this year.

As to how she managed to “move on,” Kim admitted, “Forgive and forget. Yes…Yun lang yun.”

Sam Milby Wants to Focus on His Music Again

Sam Milby attended the press preview of 100 Days To Heaven last Sunday, May 1, to show his support for the upcoming teleserye, which he believes can teach valuable lessons to viewers. Sam will have a cameo role in the said primetime teleserye that will start airing on May 9.

The actor also revealed that he will soon return to primetime via the teleserye Alta. Sam will star opposite Gretchen Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, KC Concepcion, and Zanjoe Marudo. But for the meantime, the actor-singer said that he will focus on his upcoming movie with KC.

Apart from his acting career, Sam added that he intends to focus on his music, which he set aside for the past few years. The Fil-Am actor related that he is currently working on his next album. He added that it will contain revival songs, with one or two of his original compositions.

“Medyo matagal na ako ‘di nagsusulat ng kanta,” he confessed. He shared that when he went to the US during the Holy Week break for the Star Magic Tour, he suddenly realized how much he missed doing music. “I started playing the guitar more. Parang I missed playing music, I missed having music in my life,” he explained. “For three [or] four years, hindi ako nagsusulat ng mga kanta. For the longest time [I focused on] acting [and] pagdating sa bahay [I would directly go to] sleep.”

When Push.com.ph asked Sam what the song he is currently writing is all about, he replied, “[About] inspiration. In love, pero wala akong love life… wala akong love life talaga. The one I started writing reminds me of ‘Love Songs For No One’ by John Meyer.”

Sam also confirmed that there are talks between his and Marie Digby’s camp to do a duet for his album. He continued that just like many, he is a fan of the YouTube sensation, who has been romantically linked to him. “Fan talaga ako bago ko siya makilala. I watched all her videos [and] up until now I still watch her videos at magaling talaga siya. She’s very talented so to be able to do a collaboration or kahit one of her songs to do a duet [would be a pleasure].”

Enchong Dee Explains Why He Couldn't Make It to AJ Perez's Funeral

“It was my lolo who wanted me to stay longer sa New York, kasi it’s been a while since we saw each other,” paliwanag ni Enchong.

I want to pay respect to him, kumbaga that’s the least thing I can do for him.

“I just wanted to say, especially his family, gabayan sila para makapag-moveon nang mabilis. I think there’s plan si God para sa kanya, there’s a purpose anything that happens to us,” pagtatapos ni Enchong.

Happy Yipee Yehey Not in a Hurry to Win the Ratings Game

Happy Yipee Yehey is going on a series of out-of-town shows to get even closer to kapamilyas everywhere, making its first stop in Lingayen. HYY joined the capital city of Pangasinan in its celebration of the Pistay Dayat Festival (or Sea Festival) last April 30 with a special presentation at the Capitol Hotel compound overlooking the Lingayen Gulf. Hundreds of Pangasinan locals arrived early at the location to be first in line to see the show, this despite the scorching summer heat.

Prior to the April 30 show, hosts Randy Santiago, Mariel Rodriguez, Bianca Manalo, Matteo Guidicelli, and Bentong met with Manila and Pangasinan-based reporters in a luncheon press conference to talk about HYY’s first remote presentation. John Estrada and Toni Gonzaga arrived hours later to join the rest of the HYY barkada in a motorcade around Lingayen and neighboring Dagupan City and Binmaley.

During the press conference, Randy explained why they chose Lingayen as first stop in HYY’s series of out-of-town shows. So for the start of HYY’s series of out-of-town shows napili naming pumunta sa Lingayen para magsimula kami sa Northern Luzon. Hopefully matuloy ‘yung pinaplanong susunod na show sa Palawan sana this June.”

He also related his admiration for the province’s famous delicacy.

Bianca, on the other hand, named her favorite sweet popularly made in Pangasinan. “Masarap talaga ‘yung tupig. Meanwhile, Mariel hoped the visit would give her the chance to go back to one renowned tourist spot in the province. Sobrang ganda talaga dun.”

Members of the press also asked the hosts to clarify the issue regarding competition with noontime show on the other TV networks. Was the Lingayen stopover the beginning of HYY’s plan to win more viewers and in the end get ahead in the TV ratings? Randy, the most senior noontime show host among the group, answered, “When I started in the business back in 1987, dumaan na ako sa Lunch Date, and sa SST, dumating na rin ang APO, and I was part of MTB, then dumating nga ang Wowowee.

Randy also announced during the press conference that on May 7, comedian Pokwang will be joining the HYY family. Mariel, who is a close friend of Pokwang from the two previous noontime shows, reacted on the speculation that the reason the comedian was brought in was to boost the ratings of HYY. She’s a performer. She’s born to do a noontime show. Ibang klase ang energy level niya. She’s a comedian na iba ‘yung bilis mag isip, ‘yung spontaneity.”

First 2 Grand Finalists of Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2

Definitely expect the unexpected in the country’s number one talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” as tension and surprises filled its first results night for the season. After the overnight voting, breakdancing group Freestylers led nationwide votes that automatically gave them the first grand finalist slot.

Judges, on the other hand, must choose whom between Rico the Magician and the Madrigal Siblings, who ranked 2nd and 3rd place in text votes, will also make it to the grand finals. Kris Aquino and Ai Ai Delas Alas obviously succumbed to the pressure brought about by the tough choice they have to make as both judges suddenly burst in tears upon giving their comments. In the end, the Madrigal Siblings made the cut. The two acts will now advance on the grand final alongside other grand finalists to be named in the coming weeks. PGT continues to be the country’s number one reality-talent show. Last Saturday, PGT scored a national TV rating of 27.5% versus rival shows “Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho” (16.5%) and “Talentadong Pinoy” (6.2%). It also ruled last Sunday when the show rated at 22.4% nationally versus “Show Me Da Manny” (10.2%), according to Kantar Media/TNS.

Arron Villaflor Joins Maria la del Barrio

KAPAMILYA actor Aaron Villaflor will join the cast of the upcoming localized series "Maria la del Barrio".

Topbilled by Erich Gonzales and Enchong Dee, the upcoming telenovela is said to officially mark its presence as one of the next big stars of ABS-CBN.

Aaron will play as Enchong's brother, whom Erich will be much closed to. Their closeness will soon draw jealousy from Enchong, leading to an unsettling marriage.

"I'm so happy na kasama ako dito. So surprising kasi biglaan lang na tinawagan ako and will be playing the role of Vladimir," Aaron said.

According to the actor, it's his first time to do straight drama and portray a dark character on television, which he liked.

"I'm looking forward to it and kailangan galingan at paghandaan kasi second time ko na itong makatrabaho si Erich and Enchong eh," he said.

Aaron added that at first, he had a hard time portraying the role because he hasn't seen the original version played by Mexican actor Hector Soberon.

But with the support and help of the production team, his co-stars and especially their director, Aaron believes he's getting the grip already.

"Sobrang strikto talaga niya (Quinto). Dapat laging on-time ka sa set, alam mo yung lines, yung blocking mo eh tama, which I really like. Sobrang ina-idolize ko siya and talagang work kung work," he said.

As of Sunday, Aaron said they haven't yet felt any pressure in starring the much-loved telenovela originally played by Mexico's best actors Thalia and Fernando Colunga. But he promised that the audience will be treated to something old and new in the series.

"Maria la del Barrio" is expected to grace Philippine primetime block this month.

Grand Welcome for Pokwang in Happy Yipee Yehey!

Of All Media Kris Aquino.

Bida Best Kapamilya!
