Xian Lim Can Sing!

Xian Lim returned to Showtime as a guest hurado and once again wowed the “madlang pipol” with his talent in singing and playing various musical instruments. He also recently put up a YouTube channel (XianLim8) where he uploads videos of himself performing renditions of popular pop songs. In an interview with, Xian said that his YouTube was born out of having too much leisure time. “I love just staying home and playing my instruments when I'm not busy with work or studies. I started a YouTube channel because I wanted to share my music with everyone.”

The 22-year-old model-turned-actor was just happy that because of Showtime, and now his YouTube channel, he has the chance to entertain people with his talents. “It's also a good way to keep my supporters entertained and see a different side of me. I also want people to see my own interpretation of the song. Expect more covers on my channel and later on I'll post some of my original compositions.”

In his many “samples” on Showtime, Xian played numerous musical instruments, like the guitar, keyboard, ukulele, and even a trombone. then asked how many instruments can he actually play. “I can't really give you an exact number of how many I play. My hobby is collecting musical instruments. Let’s just put it this way, give me any instrument and I'll play it for you. Ha ha ha!”

So does this mean that Xian is thinking about becoming a legit musician, and maybe record an album very soon? He answered, “Why not? Ha ha ha! If I was given the chance and the opportunity to show my talent to everyone, every performance will come from the heart. Album? Hmmm... hopefully!”

While Xian spent most of his childhood in the US, he can speak fluent Tagalog. He only came home to the Philippines three years ago to give showbiz a try. He credits his mother for teaching him to play the piano and encouraging him to learn to play other instruments.

On his YouTube channel, Xian has renditions of a few popular songs like “Replay,” “I’m Yours,” and “Officially Missing You.” Some of the current hits he likes at the moment include songs of Bruno Mars, The Script, Jason Mraz, and other local songs. Fans can follow him on Twitter <@ XianLimm> for updates.

Kim Chiu Celebrates Birthday With Gerald Anderson

Fresh from the Star Magic U.S. tour, Kim Chiu looked well-rested and happy as and other ABS-CBN reporters welcomed her home at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport past midnight of April 26. The young actress shared that their trip had been very successful since they were able to meet a lot of TFC fans there. “Mabuti, masaya.

Adding to Kim’s excitement was the fact that she celebrated her 21st birthday with former reel and real life partner Gerald Anderson. When asked if Gerald gave her a gift this time, the young actress merely replied, “Ah… nag-dinner lang kami.” She didn’t elaborate, however, if it’s just a friendly date or if there’s a possibility of a rekindled romance between them.

On a lighter note, Kim said that she was given several birthday treats by her Star Magic family. She also confirmed recent reports that Piolo Pascual treated her and the rest of the group to a luxurious dinner during one of their night-outs together. “Nung mismong birthday ko kasama ko buong Star Magic family. Nag-celebrate kami dun tapos lumabas kami nung gabi.

As for the latest updates regarding her love life, Kim was clearly surprised when she was told that Jolo Revilla revealed in a recent interview that he has plans to court her anytime soon. “Ano? She added that they haven’t kept in touch lately since her phone got stolen right before she left the country.

Asked if she would give Jolo a chance once he becomes her suitor, Kim said that it’s too early for her to know whatever his intentions are. But she was also quick to say that she finds Jolo a real gentleman. “Sobrang gentleman niya. Anong ginagawa mo?’”

With regards to her new admirer Simon Atkins, Kim revealed that they no longer have any communication.“Wala na po. Bakit? Wala lang,” she answered elusively.

Father of AJ Perez's Eulogy

There was a great outpouring of sadness from family and friends of AJ Perez when the young actor was finally laid to rest at around noon on April 26 at the Manila Memorial Cemetery. AJ died last April 17 in a vehicular accident on his way home from a show in Dagupan, Pangasinan. The showbiz industry mourned the untimely and tragic passing of the 18 year-old, and his friends in showbiz wept as they paid their final respects on the day of the burial, beginning from a mass at the Christ the King Church in Greenmeadows, Quezon City to interment at the Manila Memorial Cemetery.

Those who attended the burial included AJ’s co-stars in the teleserye Sabel, Jessy Mendiola and Joseph Marco, his fellow Giggerboys Sam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, and Enrique Gil and former Giggerboys Chris Gutierrez and Dino Imperial; Sam Milby who just flew back from the Star Magic concert tour in the US, Star Magic handlers, and a few ABS-CBN executives. The actor’s friends and classmates from La Salle Greenhills also paid their last respects.

AJ is survived by his parents, Gerry and Marivic Perez, and twelve-year-old younger brother Gello. Gerry, who was with AJ when the accident happened, made his final tribute to commemorate the happy life he shared with his son. The following is an excerpt of his eulogy.

“Exactly nine days ago, our beloved AJ bade goodbye to this beautiful world of ours. I stand before you with feelings of grief, longing, and loneliness. I would like to tell you AJ’s life story which I hope would provide inspiration to all of you as it did to us with what recently transpired.

“AJ and I, as many people know by now, have bonded for such a long time, not just in show business but even before that. We’ve shared so many beautiful things, starting from his training in basketball, and up to the day that he passed away.

“We should reach out and look at ourselves to see what AJ meant to each one of us. I know when all of this is over, you will all go home. But in your minds and hearts, I hope you will never forget AJ.

“I will always treasure these moments which remind me how wonderful it is to be a dad to a very loving son. For so many times there were many words left unspoken. How I wish I can turn back the hands of time. However, all that remains now are memories which I will treasure for the rest of my life.

“If AJ were alive today, he would wish for all of us to live in harmony, treasuring the great times together as a family, with his friends, classmates, neighbors, colleagues in the industry, acquaintances, fans that he loved so much. I can’t ask anything more from a son like AJ. He is a very loving, caring, and obedient brother to Gello.

“I often ask myself what AJ’s passing means to me and all of you. I’ve spent time searching for answers, and I ended up with nothing. I thought deep in my heart, and I realized what AJ’s death means to all of us. Life is too short. Just let go. Love and care for one another need not wait. Live our lives to the fullest. Say the things we have all wanted to say to our loved ones. Always appreciate every single day that God gives us to experience His goodness. Whenever we are down and we wanted to do things, I always say, ‘Do your best, and God will take care of the rest.’

“While it remains elusive for most of us to live in a perfect world, AJ always wished that we all live in harmony and understanding. He never wanted to disappoint anybody. He would always think of the feelings of others rather than his own.

“AJ is already on his way to a wonderful journey, to be reunited with our wonderful Creator. AJ, my son, forever you will be in our hearts. Our final wish in you journey is, may God rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, may the sun always shine on your face, may rain fall soft upon your field. Until we meet again, son. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. Farewell, my son. Farewell, my beloved AJ. I love you. I’ll see you soon.”

After AJ’s remains were entombed, his family and friends gathered to release butterflies and balloons symbolizing letting go of the pain and accepting the loss. The young actor was also given a warm round of applause of a life, though short, was said to have been well lived.

AJ Perez Final TV Appearance on MMK

Maganda ang episode na tinampukan ni AJ, with seasoned performers like Regine, Albert, and Christian Vasquez (as the other man in Regine's character's life).

Sa direksiyon ni Dado Lumibao, mula sa panulat ni Benson Logronio, the MMK episode is about the love between two brothers who are social outcast.

"It tells the story of two brothers who, out of poverty and having been outcast in the city, had to walk from Manila to Samar in search of better opportunities.

"AJ is the jaded elder brother who thinks his brother is pabigat. But along the way, he learns to love him.

"Nakita ko kay AJ yung passion at dedication niya as an actor. He listens and is very willing to learn. He is focused.

"After each take, he would preview and ask kung nagawa niya ang dapat niyang gawin. Sa set, tahimik lang si AJ. It was only during break and after pack-up that we would be able to talk and makakapagkuwentuhan. Marami siyang pangarap. Gusto niyang maging mahusay na artista. Given the opportunity, sana. I know he will be. Very promising siya."

"AJ is very professional," sabi ni Direk Dado. May script revisions sa set, but he was able to memorize his lines. Nakakapagod yung taping from Manila to Sorsogon for four days, pero he did it. While we travel from one location to another, ang lagkit at napaka-uncomfortable ng pakiramdam. But he [AJ] told me, 'It's okay.' It's part of his work as an actor. Never siyang inalagaan and pabigat sa set. It's nice to work with actors who trust you. Isa na si AJ dun."

Direk Dado considers having directed AJ in his final appearance as an actor, via the MMK episode, both a privilege and an honor.

"This MMK episode was first—and would be the last time I had worked with AJ. It was a privilege [and] an honor that I directed him in his final appearance as an actor," sabi niya.

What could have been AJ's great assets as an actor which Dado have seen and thought could be utilized to the full had the boy lived longer?

Very expressive... nangungusap," sagot ng direktor. I've always told him, 'No extra movements. Just use your eyes to express your emotions.' And he did.

"Even in death, his eyes were utilized," makahulugang saad pa ni Lumibao.

In time, pag natutunan niyang kontrolin ito, he could have been the best actor in his generation. Am going to miss him. His last words after pack-up: 'Hope to work with you again, Direk!' And I said, happily, 'Yes, we will, soon!'" malungkot na huling sambit ni Direk Dado.

MMK Director on AJ Perez

"He will be missed. His journey ends and may he rest in peace."

"We're here as he goes to his final journey," saad ng direktor sa kanyang text message.

"He was so excited with his MMK," sabi ni Direk Dado, who regretted about AJ's passing away bago ito maipalabas.

"He was such a dedicated actor.

Beatification of Pope John Paul II Special Coverage on ABS-CBN

ABS-CBN will take Filipinos to the beatification of one of the most revered persons in history—the late Blessed John Paul II—with a week-long special coverage that will highlight his holiness and contributions to the world entitled “Blessed John Paul II: We Love You.”

The country’s largest multimedia conglomerate has started airing reports by respected broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez on the different people touched by Blessed John Paul II in “TV Patrol” last Monday (April 25).

ABS-CBN will also send Korina to cover straight from the Vatican City starting Thursday (April 28) on “TV Patrol.” The actual beatification ceremony, meanwhile, will be aired live at 6:30pm on Sunday (May 1) on “TV Patrol Weekend” with anchors Alex Santos and Bernadette Sembrano.

ABS-CBN’s flagship newscast also launched the “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula” Beatification Special last Wednesday (Apr 27) that allows viewers and Boto Patrollers to share their fondest memories and memorabilia of the former Head of the Catholic Church, who had visited the Philippines in 1981 and in 1995. Chorale groups will also be invited to sing inspirational songs and hymns dedicated to the late Pope.

Studio 23 will also air a special episode of “Iba-Balita” on May 1, as well as news updates throughout the day, to report on the beatification.

The special coverage of ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel SkyCable ch. 27, will begin at 4pm, anchored by Ron Cruz and Lia Andanar. It will be highlighted by the uninterrupted coverage of the Holy Mass and beatification, special live reports from the Vatican, and live discussion with a panel of special guests.

The following day (May 2), “Talkback with Tina Palma” on ANC will talk about how the Blessed Pope touched the lives of Filipinos with Ambassador to the Holy See Tita de Villa, Fr. Aris Sison and Brother Dave Caesar dela Cruz.

DZMM, on the other hand, will also give updates on the biggest religious event this year and air the actual ceremony live over DZMM TeleRadyo (Skycable ch. 26) and DZMM Radyo Patrol 630. ABS-CBN Bosses and Director Believe AJ Perez's Passing is a Great Loss

But we still pray for him, for his safe passage."

"Karamihan ng mga sinabi namin about him, totoong...we really look forward to working with him pa sana.

"But I'm very happy. At least, bago niya tayo iniwan, nabigyan namin siya ng isang malaking project, na nai-launch namin siya as a leading man, in Sabel."

Sa nasabing article ay nakasaad din ang tungkol sa upcoming project para kay AJ Perez—"a movie with Star Cinema, where he is one of the leads."

"After Mara Clara, ang plan ko talaga was for a Julia-AJ [movie]."

"Mara Clara [the movie], yes!" sambit ni Roxy.

Sabi naman ni Direk Don, "It's [AJ's death] a big loss.

"Kasi kung kelan siya nakilala, after nga nung Sabel...and he's supposed to star din in a movie with the Mara Clara cast.

"So, nakakalungkot siyempre.

"Pag promo namin, okay lahat. Oo-ohan nila, except of course pag may school.

About Ur Luv (2006-2007), Astigs (2008), Lobo (2008), Your Song Presents Boys Town (2009), at Your Song Presents Underage (2009).
May music video ding tinampukan si AJ, pinamagatang Kelly! Kelly!

Under his contract, sa labas ng Star Cinema, gumanap naman si AJ sa mga pelikulang Bahay Kubo: A Pinoy Mano Po (2007) at Mamarazzi (2010), bilang anak ni Eugene Domingo (under Regal Entertainment), directed by Joel Lamangan; at Magkaibigan (2008), a Metro Manila Filmfest entry, directed by Jose Javier Reyes.

In his struggling years in show business, naging halimbawa si AJ ng pagiging totoong professional sa kanyang gawain.

"Never nagku-complain. Iba ang breeding, so it's a loss talaga. Sobra!"

But Don, the young actor's director in his last teleserye-lead starrer so admired AJ dahil sa hangarin nitong makapagtapos ng pag-aaral.

Na naka-graduate sa high school at De La Salle Greenhills si AJ this year, habang busy sa five-days-a-week taping ng teleserye during the last months of his senior year, ay isang malaking accomplishment.

"Talagang ayaw niyang i-give up yung studies," pagre-recall pa ni Don.

Sabi niya, 'March 20, Direk.'

"'That's a big accomplishment on your part!" sabi rin daw ng direktor kay AJ.
It's a very big achievement for me!"

ABS-CBN Reiterates KBP Guidelines on Treatment of Children

In light of controversies involving the proper treatment of minors in various television programs, ABS-CBN reiterated to its TV production staff the guidelines of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) on protecting the rights of children who are appearing on their shows.

In a statement released on Wednesday, ABS-CBN, through its Office of the Network Ombudsman, said it also reminded the TV production group about some provisions of Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.

The specific provisions define the meaning of child abuse and the parameters whenever a child is involved in an indecent show.

The network also emphasized that it “strictly adheres to and abides by the code contained in the Broadcast Code of the Philippines.”

The code contains provisions which remind TV networks “that children should not be required, coerced, or bribed to narrate traumatic experiences on shows. They shall not be ridiculed, diminished, or demeaned; and camera angles should not be used to create indecent and inappropriate images.”

ABS-CBN also said the network will continue to maintain “an on-air monitoring team that views all its programs and provides feedback to the program production teams on program content.”

It will also retain its call monitoring system, which is a feedback mechanism that allows its audience to inform the Kapamilya network of their comments, opinions or suggestions on programs and talents.

In this way, the production units of every show will be able to monitor feedback and comments from its viewers, it said.

In addition, a child protection handbook is also being drafted, which “will contain standards, guidelines and operating procedures to cover the employment of minors, and news coverage involving children and related matters.”

Just recently, the KBP, upon the initiative of the Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA), has started an action to strengthen its Code of Ethics to protect the rights of participants and talents in various TV programs.

The series of consultations is expected to be finished by the end of April 2011.

KBP will then issue appropriate guidelines, taking into account inputs from the consultations with PANA and the TV networks.

AJ Perez's Girlfriend Eulogy

Friends and colleagues of AJ Perez paid their final respects to the late actor at his requiem on Monday, April 25, at the Christ the King Parish in Quezon City, a day before he was laid to rest at the Manila Memorial Park in Paranaque City. Among those who delivered eulogies for the actor were his high school batchmates and teacher at La Salle Greenhills, where AJ finished his high school education.
Steph Ayson, the actor's non-showbiz girlfriend, also delivered a heartbreaking eulogy.

"I want to be a teacher, a lawyer, and suddenly a doctor. I want to be able to write well, to sing well, and to dance well. All of those changed except one. I knew I want to marry a guy. And his name was AJ Perez."

Steph narrated how she met AJ through a common friend and how she tried to act nonchalant during their first meeting when, in fact, her "emotions were screaming."

"I was a silly girl, writing our names beside each other. I was scribbling hearts and playing Flames and I would wake up every Saturday just to watch "About Your Love." I would sit in front of the TV and watch ASAP. I was a fan and I would like to think I was the biggest fan he had," Steph said.

The two met September of 2007. On Febraury 14, AJ asked Steph to be his girlfriend.
"Cheesy, but that's AJ. Cheesy, sweet, sincere. He wanted to promise me the world, but I asked him not to. Because I was too afraid to hurt him, but he promised anyway, and he kept each one of them. He asked for my full trust. I admitted I was having a difficulty, but showed me that he knows what trust means and he'll never do anything to break that," she narrated.

"He told me that even if I don't say 'I love you' back away or show him sweetness just like he would, his exact words were, 'I would wait a lifetime.'"

She added that while she felt mad about AJ's death, "if this is God's way of showing me forever, I accept it... AJ taught me how to love. He was very selfless. His love was the most pure thing on Earth. It was, in every way, unconditional. And probably that's the message here. He wants all of us to love the way he did also."

"He made me so happy, and even to his last day, he would talk to me and tell me that 'I want you always to be happy. I don't want you sad. I want you to smile a lot. You know why? Because I love you.' And I know as the days go by it will be very difficult but AJ would say he'd want us to be happy. That's the way he lived. He was happy," she said.

Steph ended her eulogy: "To my baby, you'll always be in my heart. Thank you for making my dreams come true. I'll take care of your family for you. And I'll love the way you loved me."

In his eulogy, Paul De Jesus, AJ's class adviser during his last year in high school, shared how the actor was just like any of his students—playful and sociable, with no star complex despite being a prominent celebrity.

"AJ was just like any of my sons in 4-C. Hindi po sya mayabang. No star complex at all. He gets along easily with his classmates. And just like any of my sons in 4-C, maloko or clown din paminsan-minsan," De Jesus said.

Kim Chiu Celebrates Birthday in US With Fellow Star Magic Artists

Drama Princess Kim Chiu went clubbing when she celebrated her 21st birthday on April 19 in New York City in the United States.

“Clubbing, masaya naman, first time,” she told ABS-CBN News.

She said her fellow Star Magic talents celebrated the event with her.

The former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate also divulged that the night party was a birthday present from hunk actor Piolo Pascual.

“Libre ni Papa P. [Pascual], so masaya ‘yong experience ko sa ganoong bagay,” the young actress said.

As for her birthday present for herself, Chiu said: “Shopping spree siguro, super shopping pero masaya. Kasama ko Star Magic family ko.”

DSWD Sues Willie Revillame for Child Abuse

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) filed Wednesday a complaint against “Willing Willie” host Willie Revillame over a 6-year-old boy's lewd dance in his show last March 12.

The DSWD charged Revillame with violation of Republic Act No. 7610, or the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Concerned citizens who joined the complaint include Fr. Robert Reyes, Froilan Grate and blogger Noemi Lardizabal-Dado.

“Our decision to initiate legal proceedings is pursuant to our mandate to protect children who are victims of abuse, neglect and exploitation. It is also in response to the public clamor for government intervention regarding Mr. Revillame’s actuations toward the little boy in that unfortunate episode of Willing Willie,” DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman said in an official statement.

The incident involved a 6-year-old boy who was made to dance provocatively while tears streamed down his face. The video clip of the episode spread online, triggering public outcry and prompting government agencies to look into the incident.

In a separate interview, Atty. Nancy Quimpo of DSWD said the Jan-Jan incident was a clear violation of RA 7610 since it involves "emotional and psychological cruelty to a child" including debasement and humiliation.

Soliman said the incident served as “a wake-up call for everyone” with regard to child protection. “Media practitioners and advertisers were compelled to re-examine their policies and practices relative to shows which involve children and youth,” she noted.

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and Commission on Human Rights are already investigating the incident.

Revillame's lawyer, Leonard de Vera, earlier criticized Soliman for prejudging the incident without proper investigation. He said social wokers only interviewed the boy after Soliman had already issued a statement that there was child abuse on the show.

Soliman maintained that there is no political angle nor hidden agenda in their move to file the complaint.

She said the department is only promoting “the welfare of the child and his family, and others who are or may be placed in a similar situation.”

“We are doing everything we can to help these children. They deserve a better quality of life and we want them to be protected. We want them to enjoy the simple joys of childhood – love, protection, acceptance. Every child is precious. They are individuals in their own right and we need to nurture them in an environment that promotes their interest,” she said.

If found guilty of child abuse, Revillame could face 6 to 12 years imprisonment.

Star Magic Artists from US Tour Mourn AJ Perez's Demise

Six Kapamilya stars, who arrived in the country Tuesday morning after their successful Star Magic 18 World Tour in the United States, remembered young actor AJ Perez.

Drama Princess Kim Chiu, Dancing Princess Maja Salvador and hunk model-actor Rafael Rosell expressed sadness over the untimely death of their fellow Kapamilya talent.

“We'll pray, always pray for him and his family and our condolences to everybody who loves him including ourselves,” Rosell told ABS-CBN News.

Salvador and Chiu also recalled the fondest memories they shared with Perez.

Perez, 18, was killed in a vehicular accident in Tarlac after doing a show in Dagupan last April 17.

Hoping that the tragedy will serve as a lesson to everyone, Salvador advised the public to take extra care while driving.

“Kapag aksidente, aksidente talaga.

Shortly after their arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the Kapamilya stars, together with Star Magic head Johnny Manahan, headed to Christ the King Church in Quezon City to pay their last respects to the late actor.

The actor was buried Tuesday afternoon.

Friends, Colleagues Remember AJ Perez

Friends and colleagues in the industry also paid their respects during the last night of his wake, among them fellow Gigger Boys member Sam Concepcion, Kapuso stars Steven Silva and Sarah Lahbati, "Sabel" co-star Joseph Marco, entertainment columnist and talent manager Ogie Diaz, LSGH batchmate and "Mara Clara" star Albie Casino.

Jessy Mendiola, AJ's onscreen partner in his last television show "Sabel," described the actor as sincere and genuine.

Palagi syang positive. Palagi lang syang genuine sa lahat ng sinasabi nya," she said in an interview with members of the entertainment press.

Jessy was at home, just after rehearsals for ASAP Rocks, when she found about AJ's accident through a friend.

For her, it was painful to hear people's description of AJ as diligent and hardworking in his studies—especially since the "Sabel" staff saw first hand how he tried to balance his showbiz career and his studies.

Sabi ko, 'Di ka nila mapapalitan, kasi ikaw lang na nakikita namin na pwede mag Dindo.'," she said.

Sam Milby described AJ as "laging happy."

"He's someone you want to be around because of his good energy, good vibes, and napakabait talaga. Such a bright future rin," he said.

"I just know that he's in a better place and I'm sure he's happy and that's for eternity na. But lahat kami, he touched a lot of lives and we'll just keep all the memories that we have of him," Sam added.

Sam went to the Christ the King Parish with KC Concepcion as soon as they arrived from their Star Magic World Tour.
