AJ Perez Talks About TV Projects on Last Interview

Past 9 p.m. on Saturday, a still energetic AJ Perez gave an interview after doing the “Kapamilya Karavan” show during the Bangus Festival in Dagupan, Pangasinan.

He talked about his upcoming episode on “Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK)” that will be aired on April 30. He finished taping the episode last week.

“’Yong MMK episode ko po ipapalabas ‘yan this April 30. Kasama ko dito si Bugoy Cariño. Kuwento ito ng dalawang magkapatid and ‘yong bonding nila and ‘yong kuwentong pagmamahal sa isa’t isa and struggle nila from having to move from Manila all the way to Samar,” he said.

In the same interview, Perez also dispelled rumors that “Gigger Boys,” an ABS-CBN's all-male group that he was a part of, is on the verge of breaking up.

He said: “Buo pa din ang ‘Gigger Boys.’ It’s just that paminsan na lang kaming sumasayaw together as a whole group kasi iba’t iba ang schedule, kulang ang time for rehearsals. May ‘ASAP’ ‘yong isa, ‘yong isa out of town, taping, pero hindi pa rin nawawala ‘yong ‘Gigger Boys,’ buo pa din ang grupo.”

As for his fans, he said he was reaching out to them through social networking sites, specifically Twitter.

In fact, before the tragedy, Perez was able to tweet the “long drive ahead.”

When he left Dagupan for Manila hours later, no one knew that it would be his last television interview.

An ABS-CBN van carrying Perez, his father, 2 road managers and an event marshal collided with a provincial bus in the province of Tarlac around 11: 45 p.m.

The young actor, one of the lead stars of “Sabel,” sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead on arrival at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. He was 18.

The entertainment industry on Sunday mourned the sudden death of the young star.

Musical variety show “ASAP Rocks” offered prayers for him, while celebrity show “The Buzz” observed a moment of silence.

His friends and co-workers said they were still in a state of shock.

“AJ's death comes as a shock to all of us. We are saddened that he was cut down at such a tender age. We shared the deep felt sorrow of his family and we will miss him," Johnny Manahan, Star Magic head, said in a statement.

Jessy Mendiola, his leading lady in “Sabel,” remembered Perez as someone who would constantly encourage her and had only good words for everybody.

“Kapag sinasabi ko hindi ko kaya, sasabihin niya, ‘Kayang kaya mo yan. Ang galing galing mong umarte.’ Palagi siyang ganoon. Kahit mga masamang words ang ibato mo sa kanya, mabuting words sasabihin niya sa’yo. Ganoon siya kabait.”

“Ini-expect namin anytime dadaan siya, maghe-hello, magha-hi, mag-smile sa amin…. Ang hirap na tanggapin na wala siya,” she said.

Gab Valenciano said Perez had inspired him.

“If he’s listening to me right now, I want to thank you for being an inspiration, not just to the younger people but myself, to the older guys. And I pray wherever you are, you are happy with the Creator. I love you, bro, and I will see you soon,” he said.

Rayver Cruz assured that he and the rest of their friends would be there for Perez’s family especially during these trying times.

“Alam naming lahat kung nasaan siya ngayon, masaya siya. Pag-pra-pray namin siya. Sa family niya, stay strong na lang… Nandito kami lahat para sa kanila, sa family niya,” Cruz said.

Members of the “Gigger Boys” - Enchong Dee, Sam Concepcion, Dino Imperial, Robi Domingo, Chris Gutierrez, and Aaron Villaflor - also expressed disbelief over his death.

When I found out about it, my heart was pounding. Ganoon pa din ang feeling ko hanggang ngayon.”

Perez was introduced in 2006 as member of Star Magic Batch 13. He was discovered after appearing in a TV commercial.

On TV, he was part of the teen-oriented program "Abt Ur Luv", and various television series, including "Lobo" and "Agua Bendita".

He played the main cast role in the recently concluded primetime drama, "Sabel."

It was announced that Perez would be part of a “Mara Clara” movie.

His remains now lie in state at La Salle Green Hills.

AJ Perez Reminds Us of Rico Yan

Today is just like 9 years ago when the world of Philippine showbiz was in shock because of the untimely demise of a promising actor.

On March 29, 2002, Rico Yan died of cardiac arrest due to acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis while asleep, the day after shooting a television commercial for Talk n’ Text at the Dos Palmas Resort in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Yan was 27. An estimated 10,000 people attended his funeral rites in Manila, and was televised live on ABS-CBN. He was buried in Manila Memorial Park, Parañaque City.

Early morning of April 17, just right after midnight, Antonello Joseph Sarte Perez a.k.a. AJ Perez was on his way home from a show in Dagupan, when the vehicle he was riding in was hit by a truck. The young actor suffered from multiple head injuries causing his death. Perez was 18.

Both Rico Yan and AJ Perez possessed boyish charm. They are among a few in local showbiz being known for having a “baby face.” Both are prized talents of Star Magic and their deaths can be considered the most shocking since they are young when they died and have a lot things more to offer in the industry.

It was also in La Salle Greenhills where the wake of the the late Rico Yan was held in April 2002. They were both La Sallista.

Meanwhile, the family of AJ decided to donate the young actor’s cornea to miracle child and blind singer Fatima Soriano. That is according to a tweet from ABS-CBN AdProm head Eric John Salut.

Fatima, 17 and born on the same year AJ was born, happens to be Boy Abunda‘s guest in “The Bottomline” past midnight last night, exactly the same time when AJ met an accident and died.

AJ’s body will be in La Salle Greenhills starting this afternoon until Tuesday lunchtime, April 19.

ASAP Rocks Mourns the Untimely Death of Kapamilya AJ Perez

Musical variety show “ASAP Rocks” on Sunday paid tribute to its young host, actor AJ Perez, who was killed in a car accident in Tarlac.

A prayer, led by Gary Valenciano, was offered for the 18-year-old actor-model at the start of the show.

“We pray that You bless his family and his dad in this very unfortunate time. We lift ourselves up to You, Lord, dahil medyo mabigat mag-show na ganito because ito po ang unang beses na nakaranas kami ng isang tao na talagang connected po sa amin dito sa ‘ASAP’ na wala na po. We pray for everyone mourning at this time, for this very tragic loss,” a teary-eyed Valenciano said.

“AJ may no longer be with us physically, but because he left good memories that we will treasure in our hearts, he will live on… AJ, we dedicate this show to you, it’s yours. Embrace him, Lord, and give him the best seat to watch what we offer him today. In Jesus name, amen.”

All wearing white, other hosts of the show, some of whom were crying, stood behind him as Valenciano performed his song, “Home.”

“AJ, you’ve gone home. We miss you,” Valenciano said after the song.

Perez, together with his father, 2 road managers, a driver and an event marshal, met a vehicular accident early Sunday while he was on his way back to Manila after a provincial show.

Police said the van carrying the victims tried to overtake a trailer truck when it collided with the incoming Partas provincial passenger bus along McArthur Highway in Barangay San Julian.

In an official statement, ABS-CBN expressed its condolences to Perez’s family.

“ABS-CBN sympathizes with AJ’s family on his untimely demise, and urges everyone to pray for the eternal repose of AJ’s soul and for the family and loved ones he left behind,” said Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications.

“ABS-CBN continues to help AJ’s family during this difficult and discomforting time and to attend to the needs of the others that got hurt in the unfortunate accident,” Osorio added.

Bea Alonzo Opens Up About the Men in Her Life

Currently on the annual Star Magic Tour in the United States, Bea Alonzo finally opened up about the suitors that came into her life these past few years, namely top leading men Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, and Zanjoe Marudo. (The Pak! Pak! My Dr. Kwak! star’s last relationship was with Mico Palanca which ended in 2008.) In the April issue of The Buzz Magazine, the Fil-Brit beauty admitted they courted her, but she is still currently single.

With Jake, Bea said that there were some gray areas during the courtship which was why they never ended up together. “Nanligaw siya dati pero hindi naging kami. Yung sa amin ni Jake hindi nag-work at saka magulo rin. At saka hindi napapanahon noong time na yun kasi nga marami pang issues na hindi ko naman alam. Nailagay ako sa posisyon na yung wala naman akong alam. Sabi niya, naging open daw siya sa akin. Hindi ko alam kung alin ang totoo. I leave it that way kasi hindi ko na siya dapat problemahin kasi nagdesisyon din naman siya. Hindi talaga nag-work,” she shared with The Buzz Magazine.

After being linked to Gerald Anderson last year, Bea received a lot of backlash, which even included some death threats, from supposed hardcore supporters of the Kim Chiu-Gerald love team. The 24-year-old actress admitted she was not fazed by the negativity, although it definitely cut short whatever potential she and Gerald had as a couple. “Yung tungkol sa akin, hindi ako apektado. Sanay na ako. Siguro, yung pinaka-worse is yung may banta sa buhay ko. Hindi ko alam kung sino ang gumagawa noon. Hindi ko inaakusahan kahit sino, kahit anong fans club. Pero mayroon talagang death threats. Hindi ko alam kung sino gumagawa. Ipinapasa ko sa Diyos na lang. Saka may mga bagay na kung minsan kailangan mong pumili,” she explained in The Buzz Magazine. Obviously being more cautious now, Bea would prefer that Gerald be the one to answer any lingering questions about the two of them. “Kasi, gusto ko siya yung sasagot sa mga tanong. Ayaw kong sagutin. Alam naman nating marami ang magagalit pagdating sa ganyan. Gusto ko na lang tumahimik. Gusto ko kung saan ako ngayon, tahimik lang. Pagdating sa kanila, ang daming nagre-react. Gusto ko iwan na lang yun sa ganun,” she stressed.

When it comes to talking about Zanjoe, Bea still wouldn’t confirm anything, and would only admit the growing potential between them the more that she gets to know him. Even their super busy work schedules doesn't seem to be a problem since both make it a point to always keep in touch. “Hindi ko pa alam kung saan pupunta. Nagbabaybay kami na hindi pa namin alam kung saan kami dadalhin. Sana sa magandang daan. Pero ngayon ine-enjoy namin kung nasaan kami kasi pareho kaming busy. Ako, halos sa dami ng trabaho ko, almost everyday nag-tra-trabaho. But we always talk on the phone. Pero parang hindi pa rin napapanahon na pumasok kami sa relationship while we're both busy kasi magkakaproblema rin kami,” she admitted.

Bea said she is comfortable with having no commitment with Zanjoe yet because she is currently happy being close friends with him right now. “Ngayon nandoon pa, walang pressure, wala siyang kailangan gawin. Wala akong kailangan gawin, nandiyan pa lang kami. Maganda ang year 2010 pero mas maganda ang 2011 dahil sa umpisa pa lang ng taon, sobrang dami ng blessings na dumarating. Masasabi kong lucky ako kasi he brings out the positive in me,” she shared in The Buzz Magazine feature story.

Jessy Mendiola Tries Action in her New Show

Right after her last taping day for the teleserye Sabel, Jessy Mendiola said that she immediately taped a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode together with Ejay Falcon and Mark Gil that will be aired Saturday, April 16. After that, the young actress has kept herself busy with a new project, which will supposedly be a month-long TV series to be aired weekly.

Jessy said that she is excited about the said month-long project because it will be in the action genre. Aside from being a welcome change from the usual drama category, she revealed that she has always wanted to try the action field. “Sinabihan din po kasi ako na ayaw din po nila akong sa drama lang, gusto nila iba-iba. Sa ngayon tina-try ko mag-action mag-comedy.” She added that she has been boyish as a kid and action appeals to her, just like her idol, Angel Locsin.

Jessy added that many of her fans are curious what her next regular TV series would be after Sabel. The young actress said that management actually had a talk with her about her next teleserye, but was told not to talk about it yet. “Nag-meeting na kami [ng management] pero hindi pa raw pwedeng sabihin sa mga tao. Gagawa ako ng weekly show [na] parang once-a-week lang muna tapos ‘yung telserye,” she shared. “in the works pa lang siya [so] hindi ko alam kung tuloy na tuloy. Hindi pa po sigurado hanggang nagi-air na kayo.”

She also opened up about what had been the real score between her and former onscreen partner Robi Domingo. The two first worked together in the weekly TV series Boystown in 2009. Since then, the two have been romantically linked, but no relationship ensued.

Jessy admitted that though they got into courtship stage, she never turned down Robi, like what came out in some reports. She clarified that she and Robi have agreed to just be friends in favor of their respective careers. “It was a mutual decision na busy siya sa school, ako bata pa ako nun. Tapos kakasimula pa lang namin non, Boystown pa ‘yon, mga 16 [years old] pa lang ako no’n. Nag-usap kami no’n na huwag na muna.”

She also did not deny that she liked Robi even then. “He’s very nice, he’s very smart, very talented so hindi siya mahirap magustuhan.” However, she stressed that she will more likely not consider getting into a relationship even if Robi would pursue her again because her focus now is her career.

AJ Perez Killed in Tarlac Vehicular Accident

Eighteen-year-old actor and model AJ Perez was killed in a highway accident in Tarlac early Sunday morning, according to a report by radio dzMM.

Police said Perez was with his father and 4 others aboard an ABS-CBN van that collided with a Partas provincial passenger bus along McArthur Highway in Barangay San Julian, Tarlac.

Police Officer 2 Michael Millante of the Moncada Police told dzMM that Perez was declared dead on arrival by a hospital in Paniqui shortly after the accident took place at 12:10 a.m.

Perez’s 5 other companions were reportedly also injured during the crash and were taken to the hospital for treatment. They are Gerardo Perez (father), driver Christopher Bautista, Christina Ferrer, Edwin Patelos and Danny Linunga.

The group had just come from a show in Dagupan and were reportedly on their way back to Manila.

"Nung makarating sa may Barangay San Julian, allegedly itong van ng ABS-CBN, um-overtake ng isang trailer. 'Yung pagka-overtake n'ya po, in the process, nag-alangan po siya. Tinamaan po niya itong Partas na nagresulta sa pagkapinsala nung laman ng van," he said.

Earlier, showbiz reporter and columnist Ogie Diaz reported the incident through his Twitter account.

"Galing ng Dagupan, pauwi na. Tulog lahat sa van. Sa Tarlac, biglang bumangga sa trak. Bago pa nadala si AJ Perez sa ospital, wala nang buhay," Diaz tweeted.

Diaz said he has talked to the father of the Star Magic actor.

"Nasa isang clinic sa Paniqui, Tarlac ang mga labi ni AJ Perez. Kausap ko si Daddy kanina, iyak nang iyak. Ndi ako makakatulog nito," added Diaz.
