Martin del Rosario and Coleen Garcia on BNY

Equipped with good looks, killer smile, and innate acting prowess, Martin Miguel del Rosario is undeniably the complete Dream Boy package.

He first showed off his acting talent in ABS-CBN’s Abt Ur Love as Ray. Then a string of projects rained down shortly after. He was Boy Ramirez in Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos?; Otap in Your Song presents: Boys Town; Biboy in Magkano ang Iyong Dangal?; and the young Johnny in Rosalka. Numerous appearances in Maalaala Mo Kaya (MKK) are only a few of his notable acting projects.

His big breaks includes landing on a major role in an indie film entitled, Dagim. Now, as one of ABS-CBN2’s fastest-rising male talents, he has been priviledge to join a roster of big names in show business in the most talked-about teleserye, Minsan lang Kita Iibigin. He stars as a young soldier named Norberto Matias who is 1/3 of the love triangle which involves he characters of Andi Eigenman and Coco Martin respectively.

Martin, now 18, was born on November 25, 1992 in Metro Manila. He is the second child and only son of Tet and Robert del Rosario. They are truly blessed and are proud parents for having an obedient and bright child like Martin. Not known to many, he amazingly balances his time for both show business and his studies. He’s currently taking up Business Administration at the University of the Philippines, Diliman. He is an upcoming sophomore. Now that’s one well-rounded young man!

Introducing Coleen Garcia is a bubbly personality that tickles your senses and a beauty most refreshing to the eyes! A show business newbie, she was first featured on a Skin White TV commercial opposite John Lloyd Cruz. Then it was followed by the equally popular Lewis & Pearl cologne TV commercial where she stared as Angel. Her most recent and probably the most notable TV commercial appearance is in the Nestea Iced tea series where she plays Mattina”, the main character’s love interest. Undeniably, her good looks have made her one of the most sought-after faces in the industry.

Coleen was born on September 24, 1992 in Mandaluyong. She ¼ Spanish and ¾ Filipino. She’s the eldest among three siblings. When she was a kid, she learned to love sports, especially soccer and swimming. Now, being at the peak of her youth, she’s someone who wants to experiment, try and experience new things, and to discover more about herself.

A window of opportunities opened to her, this time, in acting. Earlier, she appeared in Maynila and MMK. Now, her big break has to come. She’s part of the recently opened teen drama series, ABS-CBN2’s Good Vibes. She plays Monique, Sam Concepcion’s character’s ex-girlfriend. Coleen is out to prove she’s not just another pretty face, but a new star that will shine as bright as diamonds!

Nobody symbolizes the most up-to-date trends in casual wear better than the youth themselves. It’s about what they wear and how they wear it. It’s about attitude, spunk, and self-expression.

Martin and Coleen, both blessed with good looks and great sense of style. They are BNY fresh teen image models. For sure, they are the flawless models of what is hip, trendy and shouts, “We are the youth of today!”

UP College of Mass Communication Expressed Disgust Over Willie Revillame

This is becoming an all-out war versus Willie Revillame. The College of Mass Communication of the University of the Philippines have expressed its outrage on Revillame’s show on TV5 due to the incident involving an innocent six-year old made to dance a la “macho dancer” even as the boy was apparently in tears, perhaps in shame of what Revillame and his father asked him to do, all because of a monetary reward.

We just hope that other communication schools around the country would come out with their stand on this issue.

The alumni have come up with a strongly worded statement and I am reprinting it in toto:

We, the alumni of UP College of Mass Communication, faculty, staff and students, CONDEMN the continued exploitation and abuse of children on television, the continued apathy of sponsors and media owners, and the outright insensitivity of television in the guise of entertainment, their hosts, writers, producers.

We are not here to teach our children that it is perfectly fine to take advantage of, exploit, use and abuse them just to be able to earn, without sweat, money from someone who disgustingly brandishes cold cash and material things, to entice audience and viewers, to taunt and laugh at those willing to be taunted and laughed at. We are not here to ALLOW advertisers, sponsors, media owners, to use US, the public and citizens, to enrich themselves by coming out with TRASH television.

Media should be accountable to the public and its citizens, not to the owners and their stakeholders. Success is measured not by the profits it has earned but by serving the public interest—which is to promote active citizenship through information, education and social integration.

Television audiences are continually being shown a “vast wasteland” of programming, and commercial broadcasting is in effect squandering the public’s airwaves, and we want to put a stop to that. We are aware that the Market Model in Media is what prevails in broadcast television, where advertisers provide most revenues for the networks, where the bottom line is always profits and where they look at the audience as mere consumers who should buy the products of the advertisers, instead of citizens who should be given quality television. We want to put a stop to that.

We therefore urge TV5 management to re-think their position on entertainment television, to take the high road and choose quality content over crass commercialism, all at the expense of the public.

We call on the advertisers of this show to pull out their ads immediately.

We call on the public to BOYCOTT the products of the sponsors who refuse to pull out of this show. The temerity of the host to say that those advertisers who pull out will “suffer” is proof that his supposed apology was not genuine and was made only as PR damage control.

We call on the public to be more vigilant both as an audience and as a consumer.

We call on appropriate agencies concerned (KBP, MTRCB, PANA, ADBOARD, DSWD, CHR) to not only slap the guilty parties on their wrists, but to make sure that media ethics and rules are strictly implemented, especially towards the protection of our children.

We adhere to the College’s vision of a society that is egalitarian, participative, and progressive through the development of media that is: Social responsible, critical, and vigilant; liberative and transformative; and Free and independent.

We will make noise and continue to make noise. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

Good Vibes Dances its Way to the Filipino Teens’ Hearts

ABS-CBN’s newest youth-oriented program “Good Vibes” is on the right track after ruling its timeslot on its debut episode last Sunday (April 3).

Based on ratings data from Kantar Media, “Good Vibes” beat competing programs with a rating of 9.7 percent.

It seems that the show was able to captivate the hearts of the teen crowd with a perfect and hip blend of drama, romance, and amazing dance routines performed by today’s most promising young stars Sam Concepcion, Enrique Gil, Arron Villaflor, Ivan Dorschner, Yen Santos, Devon Seron, Linn Oeymo, Coleen Garcia, Chikara Nawa, Kazel Konouchi, Heidi Riego, and James Reid.

The one-week old program is also making noise online. In the popular website pinoyexchange.com, forums are consistently updated with photos and comments on the program.

According to virtualreality, it is evident that the program wasn’t rushed as the cast are performing very well so far. He/she said, “although some of the cast are newbies and most of them aren’t household names yet, still, the kids can deliver! Honestly, I feel good vibes from this show! Has great potential. God bless GV Crew!”

Facebook user Maricar Corbito also commended the show in the official “Good Vibes” account. “Finally, may teen-oriented show na ‘di lang puro kilig, talagang may talent at may lesson na mapupulot,” she said. Others also likened the show to classic ABS-CBN teen drama series like “Gimik” and “Tabing-Ilog.”

Lead stars Sam and Enrique are very thankful for the people’s warm reception of their show. Enrique, who plays Troy, said he’s happy to know all their efforts didn’t go to waste. “It feels great because we put a lot of hardwork into it. Everyone did their best for this show — especially the team behind Good Vibes, who made everything possible.”

Sam, who play’s Marc, added that there is still more to look forward to in the program, especially now that half-brothers Troy and Marc have finally met each other. “We assure you the show gets better and better and I hope they’ll be watching to find out how the story unfolds,” he said.

This Sunday (April 10), Troy will meet a mysterious girl in school, He will also have to deal with being denied by Marc, who introduced him to class only as a cousin. Marc, meanwhile, faces another setback as their dance troupe is in danger of being dissolved after one of their members got pregnant.

How will they dance their way through these new tests in their lives? Find out this Sunday (April 10) in “Good Vibes,” after “ASAP Rocks” on ABS-CBN.

Advertisers Pulled Out from Willie Revillame's Show

The 'Jan-Jan incident' on Willing Willie last March 12, 2011 has prompted Jollibee Foods Corporation and Del Monte Philippines to pull out their ads from the said TV5 variety show.

Jollibee's decision to pull out its Mang Inasal ads from the Willie Revillame-hosted Willing Willie was posted on the Facebook Page "Para kay Jan-jan (Shame on you Willie Revillame!)" last April 1, which was actually Jollibee's response to Mr. Froilan Grate, who started the Facebook campaign.

"Dear Mr. Grate,

Thank you for your inquiry. For perspective, Jollibee, Chowking, Greenwich and Red Ribbon do not have ad placements in the Willing Willie program. Mang Inasal will be holding off placements within the week. We are aware of the issues and the various sentiments raised regarding the Willing Willie program “Janjan” incident last March 12, 2011. We are monitoring this closely and we are awaiting the results of the network’s investigation.

Rest assured that the JFC group remains committed to upholding the welfare of children. We trust that the appropriate and expert institutions will also respond and look into this matter with urgency. Like you, we are also hoping for a quick and rightful resolution of this matter.

Thank you for your concern.

Sincerely,

Pauline Lao
Corporate Media – Jollibee Foods Corporation"

Meanwhile, Del Monte Philippines has also followed through as announced on Facebook by writer and arts education advocate John Silva: "Del Monte has dropped its current Fit N Right spots in Willing Willie and has cancelled all future ad placements including Heart Smart, Pineapple Juice, Pineapple Tidbits and Del Monte Tomato Sauce.."

Cathy Garcia-Molina Will Direct Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes Launching Movie

Box office director Cathy Garcia-Molina is set to direct the launching movie of “Mara Clara” lead stars Julia Montes and Kathryn Bernardo.

In an announcement made by Star Cinema through its official Twitter account on Wednesday, it revealed that Molina was finally chosen to take over the first big screen project of the 2 young stars.

Many are already speculating that this film will be a box office hit following the huge success of the “Mara Clara” remake.

Joining Montes and Bernardo in the cast of the upcoming movie are Albie Casiño and AJ Perez.

In a story conferece held last March 9, Montes told ABS-CBN News that she is both excited and nervous for this project.

“Kami ni Kathryn sobrang nagpapasalamat dahil nagbunga po yung hardwork ng buong team ng Mara Clara. Although mas malaki ang expectations ng tao kasi movie na ‘yon so may pressure pero mas nangingibabaw ‘yong gratitude and excitement namin,” she said.

Meanwhile, Perez told Push.com.ph how he’s feeling that Molina was the one chosen to direct the film.

“Alam naman nating lahat ang credentials ni Direk Cathy, lahat ng big stars na nakatrabaho niya. Kami na yata ang youngest na makaka-work niya. Hopefully coming from the recent success of our respective teleseryes, this will be a new experience for all of us. She told us na mahalin ‘yung trabaho namin and she will love us back,” he said.

According to reports, the cast will start shooting this April

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” during her birthday press conference, Concepcion said Pascual is currently out of the country and is busy with his work commitments.

“He’s in the States and sabi ko nga, siyempre hindi ko itatago na... ang tagal na kitang hindi nakikita, birthday ko na hindi pa rin kita nakikita. But it’s okay, I understand if he doesn’t want people to think na showbiz siya,” she said.

Asked if she feels bad that Pascual is not around for her birthday, she said: “No because again I understand. As much as kaya ko, hangga’t kaya ko siyang intindihin, kaya kong intindihin ang actions at decisions niya, I’ll do it.”

Concepcion is hopeful that despite their busy schedules, they will find the time to catch up with each other.

She also plans to fly to New York soon and meet up with Pascual there.

With all the blessings that she has been receiving, according to Concepcion, she has every reason to welcome her birthday with gladness and full of gratitude.

PANA Issues Advice Regarding Willie Revillame's Show

The Philippine Association of National Advertisers (PANA) will allow its members to decide whether to pull out advertisements from “Willing Willie,” which has been accused of child abuse.

Jollibee Foods Corp. earlier suspended ad placements of Mang Inasal in the television show.

PANA, in a letter to the head of a consumer’s group on Facebook, said it had informed its members of the concerns raised by various sectors of society regarding the “Willing Willie” controversy.

PANA sent to its members copies of a letter-complaint regarding the show’s March 12 episode wherein a crying 6-year-old boy danced like a male stripper.

“We are sharing this information to our membership consistent with our mission statement which states that: PANA aims to be an association of advertisers providing leadership, guidance and support in the promotion of effective, truthful and responsible marketing communications, championing self-regulation, consumer protection, values formation and the advancement of the practice of marketing communications to global standards,” the organization said.

“With this information, we trust that our members will be guided accordingly on the best decision to take,” PANA added.

The Commission on Human Rights and the Department of Social Welfare and Development earlier said that the incident is a clear case of child abuse.

The National Youth Commission of the Office of the President has also issued a resolution condemning the incident.

“Mr. [Willie] Revillame must be reprimanded, held liable for his misdemeanor and be asked to issue a public statement acknowledging his lack of sensitivity on this whole incident," the commission said.

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is currently investigating the issue.

In its latest briefer on the case, the MTRCB said TV5, where the show is being aired, “should be able to impose punitive sanctions on the program and its hosts, which can range from a reprimand to a cancellation of the TV program itself, in the spirit of self-regulation.“

“The MTRCB is determined to resolve expeditiously this case of paramount importance,” said board chairperson Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares.
