Toni Gonzaga Admits Not Yet Ready to do Love Scenes

After starting production on her yet untitled comedy flick with Eugene Domingo, Toni Gonzaga formally signed a three-picture two-year contract with Star Cinema last March 29 at the ABS-CBN compound. The popular singer/host was accompanied by both of her parents during the contract-signing with Star Cinema’s Senior Vice-President and Managing Director Malou Santos.

After doing another successful romantic comedy hit with My Amnesia Girl last year, the 27-year-old actress said she is not closing her doors when it comes to venturing into other genres. But this does not automatically mean a drastic change of image for the actress. “Kasi bilang artista naman, I also want to try other things. But tingnan natin kung anong tatakbo sa mga susunod na pelikulang ibibigay sa akin but so far, tingnan na lang natin. Sa movies, siyempre it comes with role, it comes with the script, it comes with the story. Kami namang mga artista, hindi rin naman namin isa-sacrifice yung mga prinsipyo at yung paniniwala naming kung alam namin na hindi ito sa ikagaganda ng proyekto. So ako naman, I’m willing to explore and mature in my roles eventually. When I say mature, baka naman ma-misinterpret, baka akala niyo love scene, bed scene yan, hindi naman. I mean in terms of the characterization ng gaganapan ko. Like dun sa Amnesia Girl, ‘di ba may mga sensual naman siyang mga eksena pero hindi naman siya yung hindi na ako irerespeto,” she explained.

Toni said that she is thankful that Star Cinema understands her limits and is willing to compromise. “Yun ang maganda kasi sa Star Cinema kaya gustong-gusto ko maging bahagi ng pool of talents nila, lagi nilang kino-consider yung mga hangganan at kaya naming ibigay bilang artista. That’s why I feel very at home with them and they’re like a family to me kasi alam na nila yun. And if ever I do something more than that, they always consult me,” she said.

The Happy Yipee Yehey! host said that she does not know who her co-stars for her upcoming movies will be. “Yung sigurado ngayon ay yung ginagawa namin with Ate Uge. Exciting yun. Yung next two secret pa muna. Siyempre hindi pa nadi-discuss yung other two movies but siguro dun pa rin malilinya sa romantic comedy. Pero this one na ginagawa na, yun yung talagang full-on na comedy. Talagang mag-re-rely on not so much with the love story, but it’s really about the relationship of two people na mag-pinsan and yung pinagdadaanan nila na isang gustong magpakasal at isang gustong magpa-annul,” she said.

Toni, who first worked with Eugene on You Are The One, had nothing but good things to say about her co-star. “Masarap din katrabaho si Ate Uge. Actually this is not our first time to work together kaya yung adjustment, yung kailangan sa isa’t isa, wala na sa amin yun kasi ever since naman magkakilala na kami and she has remained to be one of my good friends in the industry ever since nga gumawa ako ng pelikula sa Star Cinema. Kaya nga nung natuloy nga itong project na ito, nakakatuwa kasi nung first day parang hindi namin naiisip na magkakaroon kami ng ganitong proyekto. It’s exciting kasi we look forward to every shooting day. Marami akong natututunan sa kanya. magaan lang ang trabaho sa set, walang pressure, wala kaming pa-i-star-an sa isa’t isa. Pantay-pantay lang lahat,” she shared.

Coco Martin Saddened With John Apacible's Untimely Death

Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin lead star Coco Martin was really shocked by his co-star John Apacible’s untimely death on Sunday, March 20. Coco sadly recalled that they were just together on the set of their soap two days before John was shot dead by his uncle Armando Rustia. “Actually, March 18 magkasama pa kami and then masaya pa kami nun kasama ng iba naming katrabaho. Nagulat nga kami nung nabalitaan namin nangyari sa kanya. Sobra kaming naging close [ni John] kasi napakabait na tao nun. Nakakapanghinayang pero hindi kasi natin masasabi ang buhay natin kung ano ang pwedeng mangyari,” said Coco who went straight to the premiere night of Catch Me…I’m In Love after attending John’s wake last March 22.

Coco further shared that this tragic incident served as a reminder to make the most out of every opportunity that comes his way and to spend as much time as he can with his loved ones. “Kapag in-imagine mo siya, ang laki-laking tao. Doon nga ako nabibilib sa kanya, sa hitsura niya na ang laki-laking tao, pero kapag kakilala mo siya makikita mo na napaka-down to earth, napakagaan na tao. Nakakalungkot na sa hindi magandang paraan siya nawala. At the same time, mapapaisip yung mga taong naiwan niya at kahit pati kami na nakatrabaho niya na ang buhay talaga napakaikli. So dapat mabigay mo yung best mo sa bawat ginagawa mo at mapakita mo sa mga taong mahal mo kung ano yung pagmamahal mo para sa kanila.”

On a lighter note, Coco congratulated Gerald Anderson and Sarah Geronimo for the success of their first team up on the big screen. “Siyempre pareho silang sinusuportahan ko dahil maganda naman yung pinagsamahan namin sa mga previous soaps. Sa totoo lang nakakakilig ang tambalan nilang dalawa. Madaming eksena sa pelikula na talagang matutuwa ka kaya I am sure magiging isang blockbuster ang pelikulang ito.” If given the chance, he added that it would be nice to be able to work with Sarah again. “Oo naman, sabi ko nga medyo bitin pagkakasama namin sa Idol e. Sana someday magtrabaho pa rin kami. Actually, hindi ko pa kasi nasusubukan gumawa ng isang love story, sana makagawa din ako nun.”

Frijolito Premieres This Monday!

Frijolito is the upcoming latinovela which stars Litzy, Mauricio Ochmann and Carla Peterson. It was set in the mythical town of Esperanza, Mexico, but actually shot in Argentina.

The story begins whn Nacho (Mauricio Ochmann), as a teenager in Mexico, discovered that he could seduce girls by giving them gold rings. With his buddy Lucho, Nacho fornicated with many, many girls, and then never went out with them again. Sometimes Lucho "helped" Nacho by putting a date-rape drug in the girl's drink, though Nacho was not aware of this. Being from a rich family, when Nacho finished high school, he went to Los Angeles to study medicine, not knowing that on his last night in Mexico he had impregnated Margarita (Litzy). Lucho had actually drugged both Nacho and Margarita, leading to disinhibition and fornication. In the morning Margarita woke up naked and abandoned. She could not find Nacho.

Margarita had been permanently enamored by Nacho the night that she met him, but she also hates him for having impregnated her and abandoned her. She thinks that he drugged her, but actually neither she nor Nacho remember the fornication, though she has constructed mental images of herself being raped.

Through Lucho, Nacho's brother Francisco (Roberto Mateos) offered money to Margarita to pay for killing Margarita's unborn baby. But Margarita refused. Thus while Nacho was spending six years in LA, Margarita at the age of 15 gave birth to Frijolito.

Piolo Pascual Starts Filming New Movie in US

Piolo Pascual’s first solo US tour with comedianne Pokwang came to an end with a bang at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut Sunday.

It was the first ever Filipino concert held in the historic 110-year-old Woolsey Hall Theater at Yale University. Filipino students were proud to have sponsored the concert.

Now that his concert tour has ended, Pascual said he will start to film his still untitled movie, which will be spoken entirely in English, in New York, Los Angeles and possibly in Connecticut.

While the production team is trying to keep details of the new movie in the down-low, Pascual gave Balitang America an exclusive sneak peek.

Pascual said: “It’s not your typical romantic-comedy type of film with a leading lady, I have other partners, not just one.”

Pascual said playing the role of a Filipino-American, he needs a little help from his special team of coaches – from a linguistics coach to his acting and dancing coaches.

Pascual said: “I’m immersing already into the culture and how it is really to live like a local.”

Fans said they cannot wait to see Pascual’s latest movie masterpiece.

Filming starts in April.

Pascual said he is spending a month in the US to finish his movie before he heads back home to start a new teleserye on ABS-CBN, a movie with Angelica Panganiban and an Asian concert tour.

CHR Condemns Willie Revillame's Show for Exploiting a Child

'Willing Willie' March 12 episode, which featured 6-year-old Jan-Jan Suan doing macho dance in exchange of P10,000, has been strongly condemned by the Commission on Human Rights or CHR.

In its statement released March 29, 2011, CHR noted that the said March 12 episode of Willing Willie exploited Jan-Jan's innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.

CHR also pointed out that Willing Willie and its host Willie Revillame are not the only ones who committed child abuse, but also Jan-Jan's parents because of their willingness to expose him to such humiliating and degrading situation.

Last March 28, Jan-Jan's parents already appeared on Willing Willie and for them, the show and its host did not abuse their child. (Read about it HERE and join the discussion).

CHR on Child Abuse in the TV program Willing Willie

The Commission on Human Rights strongly condemns the “Willing Willie” episode aired on March 12, 2011 wherein a 6-year old boy named Jan-Jan Suan performed a “macho-dancing routine”. This is an exploitation of the child’s innocence and demeans his inherent dignity for entertainment's sake.

The multiple pressures exerted on Jan-Jan by the TV program’s host, audience, and his parents to perform a humiliating act in exchange for ten thousand pesos constitute child abuse as defined in Section 10 of R.A. No. 7610 or “Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.” It provides that:

Other Acts of Neglect, Abuse, Cruelty or Exploitation and Other Conditions Prejudicial to the Child's Development. –

(a) Any person who shall commit any other acts of child abuse, cruelty or exploitation or to be responsible for other conditions prejudicial to the child's development including those covered by Article 59 of Presidential Decree No. 603, as amended, but not covered by the Revised Penal Code, as amended, shall suffer the penalty of prision mayor in its minimum period.

The willingness of Jan-Jan’s parents to expose him, both in private and public, to a humiliating and degrading situation is child abuse. The Commission is also deeply alarmed that the abuse suffered by Jan-Jan was seen on national television and that its videos are being repeatedly watched by the public, including children.

The Commission will investigate this incident in order to identify the person/s liable and to recommend proper legal actions against them. The Commission will also issue recommendations to relevant private, especially TV5, and public agencies in order to prevent similar incidents from happening again. The Commission also calls upon the relevant government offices such as the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board, the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Department of Justice to undertake the appropriate actions to address this incidence of child abuse and to provide the necessary relief to Jan-Jan.

Enrique Gil and Sam Concepcion are set to lead a cast of teens in ABS-CBN's newest teen drama GOOD VIBES.

MARC PEDROZA (Sam Concepcion) has the perfect life. He is the frontrunner for class valedictorian, president of his school’s dance troupe, and is the resident “crush ng bayan.” He is always ready to take on new challenges because he knows that, whatever happens, his loving family will be there to support him. However, everything changes when he finds out that his dad Nestor had a son with another woman – when TROY CABRERA (Enrique Gil) becomes orphaned, Nestor has no choice but to take him into his family’s home.

Marc tries to adjust to having Troy in his family’s life but, when Troy is accused of causing their dance troupe to be disqualified from an interschool competition, Marc doesn’t do anything to stand up for him.
