Venus Raj on Hosting Umagang Kay Ganda

Now that she has ventured into hosting, Venus Raj said that she wants to continue proving that she is more than just a beauty queen. As a budding segment host in Umagang Kay Ganda, the beauty queen is simply grateful to have co-hosts who are supportive in helping her out with her new career path. “Sobrang willing sila na tulungan ako. Hindi naman talaga ako sanay sa ganitong business so I’m very happy. At least ‘yung mga kasama ko sa UKG, talagang sobrang tinutulungan nila ako,” she explained.

When asked if she is also open to try acting, the dusky beauty replied, “Opo. Open naman ako sa ganong idea. Siguro kailangan ko lang ng workshop kasi totally wala akong experience sa ganon.” She added that things can be learned as long as one is willing.

Venus related that although many perceive her as a classy stunner, she is proud to say that she had humble beginnings and she strived hard to finish her education. That is why she was happy when she was designated in the Barangay Bida portion of UKG where she goes from one barangay to another and look for news or happenings. “Ang mga tao alam naman ang background ko at kung saan ako galing. Nung iniligay nila ako sa Barangay Bida, sobrang komportable ako na nakikisalamuha sa mga tao, pumupunta sa palengke, pumupunta sa kung ano-anong barangay, nakikiusap sa barangay captain. Wala sa akin. Normal lang ‘yon na bagay,” she shared.

She continued that through this task, she is able to show a different side of her after the glamorous Miss Universe pageant that she joined in 2010. “Magaan pagtrabahuhin ang bagay na nasanay mo nang gawin. Ipapakita mo rin sa tao na hindi lang ako Venus Raj, beauty queen na nakilala ng mga tao, may buhay din po ako. Para naman mawala sa isip at palitan lang ‘yung (thinking na) napaka-prim and proper naman nito. In reality hindi naman. “

The Bicolana beauty is also looking forward to interviewing celebrities like Piolo Pascual, whom she interviewed during her first week in UKG. She said that she also met showbiz crush Coco Martin at the Chinese New Year celebration at a mall recently.

Venus, who is a Mass Communications graduate, said that she is open to try hosting a serious news TV program in the future.

Vic Sotto Talks About Bea Alonzo

Prince of Comedy Vic Sotto has only good words for his newest leading lady, actress Bea Alonzo.

Sotto is paired with Alonzo in a fantasy-comedy film under Star Cinema.

In an interview, Sotto shared his first impression about Alonzo.

"Saksakan! Ubod ng saksakan ng ganda. Ngayon lang kami nagkakilala. Mukhang mabait naman siya. 'Yon ang akala ko. Dati sa TV ko lang siya nakikita," Sotto said.

Alonzo and Sotto were formally introduced during the story conference of their first movie together.

Star Cinema offered the project to Sotto, which will be co-produced by director Tony Reyes.

John Lloyd Cruz Reveals Valentines Day With Shaina Magdayao

Hunk actor John Lloyd Cruz revealed he is happy to have spent Valentine’s Day with his girlfriend, actress Shaina Magdayao.

Days after the lovers’ day, Cruz shared in detail how he and Magdayao observed the special occasion as it was their first Valentine’s Day together as a couple.

“Kami ni Shaina we celebrated Valentine’s Day noong Sunday, the day before [Valentine’s], after work. Sinundo ko siya. We went to church tapos nanood kami ng sine. Tapos kumain kami sa labas. Very simple. Napakasimple lang. Para kaming mga normal na tao,” Cruz told Showbiz News Ngayon.

According to the actor, both of them had work commitments on Valentine's Day itself that is why they went out on a date a day earlier.

Cruz also shared that he gave Magdayao tulips, the actress's favorite flowers, on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Cruz said it was fun celebrating Valentine's Day itself with “Imortal’s” cast, staff and crew.

“We celebrated Valentine’s Day. Magkakasama kami ng cast ng 'Imortal' with our staff and crew. May ilan na nagbigay ng chocolates. Si Angel ang balita ko maraming natanggap na flowers,” he said.

Empress Schuck Turns 18

Young actress Empress Schuck is excited to turn 18 this coming February 20.

In an interview with "Showbiz News Ngayon" (SNN), Schuck said that unlike other debutantes, she will not have a grand and formal celebration. In fact, her debut will have a rocker chick theme as she wanted her party to be unique.

All guests are requested to wear chic outfits in black, pink and white.

"Sobrang excited. Nag-meeting na kami doon sa venue. Sobrang ang saya at pangarap ko ito na magka-debut talaga, 'yung may 18 Roses, may 18 Treasures. Cotillon lang 'yong wala," Schuck said.

Schuck’s debut celebration will take place at the Grand Terrace in Quezon City where she will be wearing a Pepsi Herrera gown.

Her close friends Robi Domingo, Kitkat, and Melissa Ricks are the event hosts. Special performers are Richard Poon, 3 AM, The VoizBoys and Parokya ni Edgar.

Her showbiz friends Enchong Dee, Felix Roco, Matt Evans, Ejay Falcon, Arron Villaflor, Isabelle Abiera, Beauty Gonzales and Erich Gonzales are part of the 18 Roses and 18 Treasures ceremonies, respectively.

Guests who are also expected to attend are Schuck’s co-actors in "Shout Out!", "Abt Ur Luv", "Ang TV 2" and "Rosalka".

When asked who will be the lucky guy who will escort her on her big day, Schuck replied: "So far wala pa. Hindi ko pa alam kung magkakaroon kasi hindi naman importante sa akin kung magka-escort. So OK lang sa akin kung wala. Kasi sabi nila special someone ang escort. Eh wala naman akong special, so OK lang," she said.

Schuck, who was romantically linked to actor Gerald Anderson, is now being linked to actor Ejay Falcon.

Schuck started out in the business at a very young age.

As a child actress, she was an on-screen darling who played drama roles effectively.

Schuck was launched in a lead role via "Rosalka," a project that challenged her acting skills.

Her determination to portray a role as young Rosa was very obvious and she pulled it off.

And now that she is turning 18, the Empress of Drama looks forward to a more colorful life on and off screen.

Schuck stresses that there will no changes as it will take some more time before she obtains her own "freedom".

“Konting panahon pa po siguro,” the debutante shared. But with regard to decision-making, "[my parents] ask for my opinion. Hindi naman sila gagawa ng bagay, lalo na kung para sa akin, na hindi ako tinatanong”, Schuck said

Zanjoe Marudo Reveals Valentine Date With Bea Alonzo

Although he is usually quiet about his love life, Zanjoe Marudo shared that he spent Valentine's Day with actress Bea Alonzo.

The actor said he and Alonzo went out and had dinner together.

"Simple lang, kumain. Siyempre may bulaklak tapos nag-dinner," said Marudo.

The actor said that his date with Alonzo was so special to him that is why he does not want to talk more about it.

"Sa sobrang espesyal ng araw na 'yan eh ayaw ko na siya i-share. Sa akin na lang. Para sa akin hindi siya ordinaryong araw o okasyon na ginagawa ko. Sa sobrang espesyal niya ay gusto kong itago at akin na lang," Marudo said.

The hunk actor said right now he is just happy spending time with the actress.

"Ako naman masaya ako bawat araw na may nangyayari, bawat araw na may nagaganap. Ayaw ko munang isipin kung ano ang magaganap. So day by day mas masaya," he said.

Asked if he already got the sweet "yes" of Alonzo, Marudo replied: "Hindi pa. Hindi pa. Nasa proseso pa din ako ng panunuyo."

New TV series

Actor Zanjoe Marudo revealed he has a new TV series coming up entitled "Hiyas."

"Ito na ang bago kong proyekto-- ang 'Hiyas'. Nag-story conference na kami at tapos taping na," Marudo said.

Report has it that the series was tailor-made for him. Marudo said it was nice to know that he was the first choice to do the project.

"Nakakatuwa saka ang sarap ng pakiramdam na ganoon ang naririnig mo, 'yong binubuo nila ang proyekto at ang unang nasa isip nila ay ako ang character na gaganap. Hindi ko naman naiisip na ganoon ang magaganap," he said.

According to Marudo, "Hiyas" tells the story of how a man finds his real love.

"Paano niya haharapin ang dalawang pag-ibig? Kasi mayroon na siyang napangakuan ng pagmamahal pero sa paghahanap niya ng hiyas ay doon niya mahahanap ang tunay niyang mamahalin," he said.

For the series, Marudo will have young actress Megan Young as on-screen partner

Curtis shed tears after her mother Mrs. Carmen Ojales-Smith greeted her via phone patch.

"Happy birthday! Firstly I wish you all the blessings, good health. Anne, wala na akong masasabi ngayon sa narating mo sa career mo. Napakalayo na ang naabot mo at natupad lahat lahat ng pangarap mo. I'm so happy for you. Proud na proud talaga ako sa iyo [because of] what you are now," Ojales-Smith said.

"I'm so thankful to God for all the blessings He gave you and also I wish you all the happiness in your love life, hahaha, with Erwan. At maraming maraming salamat sa suporta mo sa amin ng 2 mong kapatid, si Jasmine at si Thomas. Sana hindi ka magbabago sa amin.. Stay fit as you are. You're still my 'wabbly wabbly' Anne. l love you. "I love you and I will see you soon. I miss you. Thank you mama. Thank you for greeting," Curtis said.

The actress also expressed her appreciation to her "Showtime" family for making her dreams come true.

"Sa 'Showtime' family ko, thank you for making not only the 'Madlang Pipol' dream come true. Pati 'yung dream ko, natutupad dito sa 'Showtime'," she said.

Jason Abalos Don't Have a Valentine Date

Who would ever believe that someone as handsome and as charming as Jason Abalos had a lonesome Valentine's Day last week?

He who has been the subject of endless controversies about women had no Valentine date to speak of.

“I didn’t have a Valentine date. It was just like an ordinary day last Valentine’s Day,” Abalos exclaimed Thursday night at the birthday bash of Daisy Chua, owner of Cotton Club apparel, at President Restaurant along Ongpin Street in Binondo, Manila.

“Wala po akong magagawa kung hindi kayo maniniwala pero ‘yon po ang totoo,” he announced emphatically to some guests.

It was work that made Abalos busy the whole day last Monday. “Trabaho lang po. Shooting. Then, umuwi lang po ako ng bahay. ‘Yon, mag-isa na ako,” he confided.

Although his daily soap “Alynna” will soon end, he has to tape and shoot other shows for ABS-CBN.

As a matter of fact, observed Chua, Abalos has lost weight probably due to staying out late at night taping and shooting.

Or is it because he has no sweetheart to take care of him and beef him up?

Abalos was advised by Joel Capulong, marketing manager of Cotton Club, to put on some pounds.

"Kailangan tumaba pa nang konti si Jason bago kami mag-pictorial for our new line," said Capulong.

Abalos is the image model of Cotton Club along with young star Ria Garcia. His contract expires in May.

“It looks like we’re renewing Jason’s contract with us, though,” Capulong revealed.

Sam Milby Finally Meets Erwan Heusaff

Hunk actor Sam Milby proved to everyone that all is now well between him and former girlfriend, Anne Curtis, even if the latter already has a new partner.

A photo recently surfaced on Twitter where Milby, Curtis and her current boyfriend, Erwan Heussaff, were all together at the birthday party of celebrity stylist Liz Uy.

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” on Thursday, Milby said that nobody should be surprised with that photo since he is not bitter over Curtis and Heussaff’s relationship.

“Si Sir Biboy ang nag-tweet niyan. I mean, even when I was there, talagang wala kaming problema or anything like that,” said Milby.

The actor even proved that there is really no bad blood between him and Heussaff.

“I even went up to Erwann and said, 'Hey bro'! How are you doing?' Ganoon lang. Nothing bad at all. Fun naman,” he said.

Curtis and Milby’s separation was one of the most publicized breakups in show business. Since the 2 decided to go separate ways last 2008, Milby has remained single while Curtis has found a new love in Heussaff.

Asked how Milby spent Valentine’s Day, the actor replied: “Hindi naman Valentine’s Day para sa akin. Ano siya, Single Awareness Day. Hindi naman sad kasi masarap talaga ang may love life pero sa kasalukuyan wala akong kasintahan. Wala akong love life.”

The leaders of ABS-CBN will go face-to-face with over a thousand future mass communicators at the 6th Pinoy Media Congress, to be held at the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine Auditorium on February 22 to 23.

Led by ABS-CBN Chairman-CEO Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III and ABS-CBN President-COO Charo Santos-Concio, the Kapamilya contingent aims to equip the student delegates from all over the nation with valuable information on current communication trends and issues through the event, which has a theme of “Engaging People and Media Participation for Change.”

Among those who will present are ABS-CBN Head of Marketing Cookie Bartolome, ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs Ging Reyes, ABS-CBN Regional Network Group Head of News Charie Villa, ABS-CBN Head of Creative Communications Management Robert Labayen, ABS-CBN Head of Digital Brand Management Carlos Mori Rodriguez, ABS-CBN Head of Programming Richard Reynante, and ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Gina Lopez.

ABS-CBN has been co-presenting the Pinoy Media Congress with the Philippine Association of Communication Educators for already six years. ANC's 15th Anniversary Celebration Kicks Off

As the nation marks the silver anniversary of the historic 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel kicks off its 15th year with a week-long special on the bloodless revolt.

From February 21 to 25, the country’s first 24/7 all-news channel will air special episodes of “Talkback with Tina Palma” “Strictly Politics”, and New York Festival finalist “Storyline” on the different faces of EDSA, and will culminate with the live coverage of the 25th anniversary celebration on February 25.

ANC will also bring together the known faces and unsung heroes of People Power in the forum “ANC Presents: EDSA 1986,” to be anchored by Cheche Lazaro live from the ABS-CBN studios at 6:30pm.

Cheche Lazaro will lead the panel that will retrace the events leading to the People Power with memorabilia, photos, and footage, and analyse where the Philippines stands now since the restoration of democracy.

Well-regarded for its round-the-clock news and world-class coverage and features, ANC has become a byword among the movers and shakers in society, who have turned to the channel for both news and analysis on local and international issues.

“ABS-CBN took a big risk 15 years ago by launching a cable news channel when television was focused on churning entertainment programs. And with the passion and brilliance of ANC’s journalists, it developed to become a chronicler of Philippine history, in the same way CNN is to the US or BBC is to the UK. Like the pioneer that it has always been, ANC will continue to stand for excellent journalism and continue being a frontrunner among local news channels,” said ANC Managing Director and ABS-CBN Head for News and Current Affairs, Ging Reyes.

Since 21 May 1996, ANC has not only been home to the country’s top broadcast journalists, which included broadcasting greats like Tina Monzon-Palma, Angelo Castro Junior, Cheche Lazaro, and the late Frank Evangelista, but also a bastion of journalistic integrity and excellence that spans four Philippine presidents.

The very first channel fully dedicated to news and current affairs, ANC has been the main source of unbridled news coverage of Filipinos all over the world. Viewers are given a front row seat in the most important hearings and events, and have access to breaking news whatever time of the day.

ANC is also one of the pioneers of citizen journalism in the country by incorporating the use of social media in its programs. In fact, ANC is one of the country’s most followed news organizations on Twitter and Facebook. The channel also figured heavily in preparing voters for the 2010 election by organizing presidential leadership forums and a series of debates.

ANC will also bring back its highly-regarded short film project amBisyon with “Kinse,” 15 short films about human rights and hope directed by the likes of Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, Erik Matti, and Raymond Red. “Kinse” will have a theatrical premiere this April and will air on ANC all month of May.

Viewers and political observers should also watch out for “ANC Presents: The Nation Up Close,” a special one-hour weekly talk show (Thursdays 7PM) that offers an incisive assessment of the hottest national issues.

Another highlight of ANC’s 15th year anniversary is the return of its former business and stock market news anchor Coco Alcuaz, who most recently served as the Manila Bureau Chief of international cable news channel Bloomberg. Alcuaz now heads ANC’s Business News.

Stay tuned to the year-long 15th anniversary celebration of the 2010 Rotary Club of Manila Journalism Awards TV News Station of the Year, ANC, the ABS-CBN News Channel on SkyCable channel 27.
