Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire said he will use his height, speed and power to beat Mexican champion Fernando Montiel on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Donaire even said that there is a possibility that the fight won't last 6 rounds.

Montiel, on the other hand, said that the Donaire fight will be his last in bantamweight fight, which is why he is aiming for a big win before climbing another weight class.

The Mexican said he will first defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight crowns against Donaire before entering the super bantamweight division.

The 5’4” Montiel said he is unfazed despite Donaire’s height. The Filipino Flash enjoys a 3-inch height advantage over the Mexican.
Montiel said he throws the heavier punches and has no problems facing taller fighters.

“I’m sure I can knock him out before 10 rounds,” said the Mexican.

Donita Rose Would Have Quit Showbiz If Not For Umagang Kay Ganda

Donita Rose said she was looking forward to working with Umagang Kay Ganda’s newest batch of hosts, which also includes Miss Universe 2010 fourth runner-up Venus Raj and Iya Villania. “I’m excited rin kasi of course panibago na yung mga ka-banter ko. I spent three and half years with the other hosts before and medyo nagkaroon na kami ng comfort zone dahil they know you so well, ganun. So with these guys we’re kind of like in the getting-to-know-you stage,” she said.

Donita said that with this new batch of hosts also come a lot of fresh changes in the popular morning show. “So it’s starting all over again and we don’t really know what’s in store for us yet. Because I’m pretty sure we’re going to be doing a lot of experimenting on this show, but I’m also looking forward to a more mature me. It’s still going to be fun naman pero parang mag-fo-focus on me being a young mom. And I guess that would mean more substance in some of the segments I do so I’m really looking forward to that,” she shared during the Umagang Kay Ganda presscon held at the 9501 restaurant inside the ABS-CBN compound last February 11.

The former VJ admitted that after her stint with MTV in Singapore and after she got married, she wasn’t really that keen on going back to showbiz. “The thing is, I really didn’t want to do the normal showbiz route anymore. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing soap operas and doing lagare, but after MTV and after finding so much fulfillment in my last job, parang I was hesitant to continue on in my career knowing that I might not be able to top that. Expectations would be so high, being an international VJ and blah, blah, blah all of a sudden. Baka people might think na na-downgrade ko yung sarili ko in a sense by coming home and doing the typical thing so I was pressured,” she admitted.

Donita shared that getting the offer to join Umagang Kay Ganda back in 2007 came at the perfect time. “Before UKG, I actually planned on quitting showbiz already. Me and my husband were planning to move back to the States and we’ve been praying about it for a long time. We had this deal na he and I would pray about it separately and when it reaches it’s deadline, mag-uusap kami on what we believe is God’s destiny and purpose for us. And then before that happened, I did a documentary in Boracay, which was supposed to be really fun and more for tourism and Eric saw me at work. He said na I was glowing, I was so alive and since I had taken a break from the industry after my son was born, parang I thought yes I’ve always been happy, nagha-honeymoon pa kami, bahay-bahayan. But he says that there was a different side of me that he recognized that was part of his responsibility to uphold, and that was to see me still in this industry, maximizing the platform that’s been given to me. When he saw that, he said ‘You know what, it’s not about confirmation from God. It’s really about what specific purpose did God create you for and I know for a fact that he created you for this.’ And then he said, ‘Let’s move to the Philippines.’ Three days later, that’s when my manager told me that I had an offer from Umagang Kay Ganda,” she recalled.

Now that she’s happily settled down, Donita said she doesn’t mind the gradual change of image. “When UKG came along, I was just the happiest person on the planet because this is something that suits the person I have become since I got married. Like I’m a young mom who still loves entertaining but wants to deliver more information and educate the audience more in a way that I know I best can. So when it came along, I went ahead and moved here then my husband followed a couple of months after and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made kasi sobrang happy ako dito,” she said.

Even now that she’s a regular fixture on ABS-CBN, Donita still makes sure to set her limits when it comes to working. “Except for UKG, I didn’t accept any other jobs. I do odd jobs here and there like hosting jobs or modelling ng konti for a day or two, but nothing that requires a full-time commitment like UKG because that in itself is like a full-time job. I wake up at 2:30 am and then we finish by 9:30 am kasi may meeting kami after. Sometimes maximum 10 am. So if you count the hours, its not like a typical 9 to 5 job but it’s very taxing pa rin, lalong lalo na parang feeling ko call center ang dating kasi pagdating ng 9 am sobrang antok ka na. and then now I’m trying to get in shape by going to the gym like 4 to 6 times a week. I’m tired. All I want to do for the rest of the day is spend time with my husband and son,” she said.

Donita said she also got lucky that her hubby Eric Valderrama works from home because it allows them more bonding time with their six-year-old son JP. “My husband has many different hats that he wears. What I love about his job is because he is his own boss. When I come home from work, he dedicates his entire day to me and then my son who comes home at about 2 pm so we get to spend a whole day together and kalokohan yung mga ginagawa namin. We play Nerf wars at home or PS3 or we go to the mall to eat out and watch a movie. Luxurious lifestyle talaga pero ‘pag when he tucks us into bed at night, between 7:30 to 8:30 pm, he works until 2 or 3 in the morning and then that’s when I wake up so switch naman kami. And then he sleeps until about 10 am. Sabi nga namin ng asawa ko, we’re so blessed kasi we can afford the luxury of time and building such a strong foundation for our marriage and our parenting, raising our son well,” she said.

Catch Donita Rose on Umagang kay Ganda, 5:30 am, Mondays to Fridays on ABS-CBN.

John Lloyd Cruz Posed as Robert Downey Jr.

For the very first time, John Lloyd Cruz joined Velvet Channel’s Tribute To The Oscars exhibit where he depicted Robert Downey Jr. in the latter’s movie, Sherlock Holmes. John Lloyd seemed perfect for the role since not only does he resemble the dashing Hollywood actor but they also share the same versatility when it comes to acting. But when asked how he feels to be dubbed as the Pinoy counterpart of Robert Downey Jr., John Lloyd humbly replied, “Malayo naman tayo dun. Well, it’s very interesting na naging ako si Robert Downey Jr. in the movie Sherlock Holmes kahit sa isang araw lang. Hindi ko lang kasi napanood pa, pero alam ko yung Sherlock Holmes. The whole experience has been very interesting and I’m looking forward to see the final layout ng lahat na nag-participate sa exhibition/competition ng Velvet para sa Oscar.”

John Lloyd further shared that he’s a huge fan of Downey’s films as well as his brief singing career. “I’m a big fan of Robert Downey. Alam mo ba na meron pa akong kopya ng first album niya na ‘The Futurist?’ Tapos, yung mga mas recent na projects niya na yung napanood ko like Iron Man, Due Date… Kasi ‘di ba tumigil siya for a time ng matagal? So yung mga lumang pelikula niya hindi ko na naabutan. I’ve yet to see Chaplin as well as his romantic comedies like Only You and Heart and Souls. But for Sherlock Holmes, hindi ko lang inexpect na ganito pala katanda. I saw a picture of him in the movie, medyo may mga lines na nga [siya sa mukha] kaya medyo heavy makeup yung nilagay sa akin para ma-achieve yung look niya.”

As for his bets for the 83rd Academy Awards, John Lloyd revealed that he was mainly struck by the performances of Natalie Portman in Black Swan and James Franco in 127 Hours.

Is it his greatest wish for one of his movies to be nominated in such a prestigious award-giving body in the future? “Hindi naman malayo yung ma-nominate ang isang pelikulang Pilipino sa Oscar especially ngayon napasok na naman natin yun, yung manalo sa International Emmy or sa Cannes. Pero sa Oscar, siguro foreign language aabot…medyo mahirap pero hindi imposible.”

All the photos in this year’s competition will be unveiled on February 24 at the Rockwell Power Plant Mall.

The Oscars air live on Velvet Channel on February 28, beginning at 6:30 am with On the Red Carpet: The Arrivals; 8 am Oscars Red Carpet Live; 9:30 am The 83rd Annual Academy Awards; and 1 pm E! After Party: The 2011 Academy Awards. Primetime telecast begins at 7 pm with On the Red Carpet: The Arrivals; 8 pm Oscars Red Carpet Live; 9:30 pm The 83rd Annual Academy Awards; and 12:30 am (February 29) E! After Party: The 2011 Academy Awards.

Bea Alonzo Posed as Audrey Hepburn

Bea Alonzo was transformed into Audrey Hepburn as Sabrina from the movie of the same name for Velvet Channel’s Tribute To The Oscars photo exhibit. Bea said that she was very excited to be part of the event for the first time. “This is my first time to be part of the competition. But I’ve heard so much about the experience of Shaina (Magdayao), Diether (Ocampo), the previous years kaya naiinggit ako. When they asked if I wanted to be part of the competition this year, I immediately said yes lalo na nung sinabi nilang I will play Audrey Hepburn.”

Other celebrities who will be transformed to look like Hollywood stars as part of Velvet Channel’s preparations for the special live airing of the 83rd Academy Awards include John Lloyd Cruz, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Jewel Mische, Empress, Julia Montes, the Philippine Azkals, and Kim Chiu. Bea talked about what she loved the most about the iconic Hepburn. “I love Audrey Hepburn pero ‘yung Breakfast at Tiffany’s pa lang ang movie niya na napapanood ko. I like her not just as an actress but also as a fashion icon. I like her look na naka little black dress. I also love her hair. I love doing period photo shoots.”

The 23-year-old actress was last seen in the ‘fashion-serye’ Magkaribal wherein she played a couture designer. For Bea, fashion is a very exciting art industry just like acting. “I love reading different fashion magazines, watching fashion shows. I consider fashion as an art, just like acting. That’s why I have much respect for stylists, designers, makeup artists. Kaya working with them is a big honor for me. Kahit na mga baguhan I want to work with them.”

In her 2008 teleserye I Love Betty La Fea, Bea underwent a different look transformation to play her character as the ugly secretary Betty. She said that having to play the life of someone else was the main reason she pursued acting. “I’m excited kapag iniiba ‘yung hitsura ko kasi that’s the reason naman why I got into acting. I want to play different roles. I want to be someone else at the same time. Kakalimutan mo ‘yung sarili mo to play a doctor, then after lawyer ka naman. Ang acting hindi siya katulad ng ibang office jobs na for eight hours everyday pare-pareho ang ginagawa mo. It’s like a journey.”

Bea’s top bet for this year’s Oscar race is Natalie Portman’s performance in the much talked about movie Black Swan. “That scene when she went in the restroom and she called her mom to say that she got the part. For that alone I know she deserves to win Best Actress. Ang galing niya kasi alam mong sobrang saya ng emotion niya pero makikita mo sa mata niya na kailangan niyang I suppress. Ang galing.”

Toni Gonzaga to do a Movie With Eugene Domingo

"Bea is a good actress. Deserving siya sa lahat ng mga blessings niya at happy ako na siya ang pumalit. Bagay na bagay sa kanya yung role 'saka magaling talagang artista si Bea," sagot ni Toni.

Kung hindi man natuloy ang pelikula niya with Vic, isang pelikula naman kasama si Eugene Domingo ang gagawin ni Toni.

"Kasama ko si Ate Uge. It's one whole comedy film, so riot talaga. Under Star Cinema, and I'm really looking forward and excited to work with her," sambit ng TV host-actress.

Jericho Rosales on Switching Networks

"You know what, ever since talaga kahit, na dumating yung mga iba't ibang offer sa akin, I stayed with the ABS-CBN because I don't like burning bridges, and I love ABS-CBN. All my friends are there, my favorite directors are there, lahat.

"I love ABS-CBN. Doon ako nag-ano, e... I'm not saying I'm moving. I'm not going to move. I'm just saying I'm open to working with other artists and other producers. I just want to experience that. I mean, it's 2011 and I'm not getting any younger. So, if we're talking about movies, I don't mind working with other film outfits."

"With all due respect and gratitude, talagang appreciation sa Star Cinema and ABS-CBN, they were the ones who helped me build my career. So, that's all, there's nothing, it's just me and the passion for doing great projects."
