Umagang Kay Ganda Bids Farewell to Four of its Hosts

Morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda” officially bade four of its mainstays goodbye this morning.

“UKG” paid tribute to hosts Rica Peralejo, Bernadette Sembrano, Ginger Conejero and Bekimon via an audio-visual presentation right before the episode ended.

“Maraming salamat po sa, well pitong taon ako nag-morning show. Thank you very much, masarap gumising sa umaga para sa inyo,” said Sembrano, who was absorbed to "UKG" from the previous show, “Magandang Umaga, Pilipinas.”

Rica, who was dubbed by her colleagues as “isa sa mga official gimikera [ng ‘UKG’],” thanked her “UKG” co-hosts, staff, crew, bosses and viewers.

“Hindi lang po ninyo alam kung ga'no yung paghihirap ng mga taong 'to [staff and crew]. Maraming maraming salamat nagtyaga din kayo sa 'kin, tatlong taon yun!

“Mami-miss ko kayo at siyempre sa mga viewers, thank you, thank you, thank you so much kasi itong part ng buhay ko kung saan medyo nag-mature po ako ay nakasama ko kayo ng tatlong taon dito sa 'Umagang Kay Ganda,'” she said.

Resident showbiz news segment anchor Ginger, who considers her two-year stint on the show an “unforgettable experience,” dished out a lighthearted message of thanks that also poked fun at her own minor shortcomings.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa tiwala na binigay niyo sa 'kin kahit bulol [ako]. Nagpapasalamat ako sa inyo dahil totoo po yung sinasabi nila, ako po yung bunso at ang dami nilang nag-aalaga sa 'kin [at] nagwe-wake up call dahil mahirap ako magising… Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng tumitiis sa pagkanta at pagsayaw [ko],” she said, laughing.

She added that their exit from the show does not mean the end of her relationship with their “UKG” family.

“Hindi ako masyadong nalulungkot dahil alam kong magkikita-kita pa rin tayo because kung ano man yung na-build natin na friendship, na pagsasama dito, talagang napakatibay. Nagpapasalamat ako sa inyong lahat,” Ginger said.

Bekimon (Bern Joseph Persia), on the other hand, became emotional as he said his piece. According to him, he never expected to be part of the morning show that he only used to watch back when he was still in Puerto Galera. He started co-hosting "UKG" in November 2010.

“Sobrang dali po nung araw na ini-stay ko dito sa 'UKG' pero maraming-marami po akong natutunan.

“… kahit po maraming nagme-message sa 'kin sa Facebook na ayaw daw nila kong makita [at] hindi daw sila natutuwa, okay lang kasi at least mas marami yung taong napapakita ko na kahit ganito ko, nakakapagpatawa ko kahit iilan man lang.

“Salamat po sa pagiging mabait at sa maayos niyong pakikisama sa akin. Na-appreciate ko po lahat yun,” he said.

The "Juanita Banana" regular shot to fame after the uploaded self-made videos of him speaking the Jejemon-gay lingo hybrid Bekimon gained more than a million hits on Youtube.

Bernadette then summarized how they feel about their exit.

“Alam mo medyo malungkot pero alam namin, kaming lahat na aalis, masaya kami dahil alam namin kung saan mapupunta ang 'Umagang Kay Ganda.' Mas marami kayong mapapasaya,” she said

Lilo & Stitch on Kapamilya Kiddie Blockbusters

This Saturday, Walt Disney's animated movie Lilo & Stitch will be featured in Kapamilya Kiddie Blockbusters. It was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, and features the voices of Sanders, Daveigh Chase, Tia Carrere, David Ogden Stiers, Kevin McDonald, Ving Rhames, and Jason Scott Lee.

A car crash has left little Lilo and her adult sister Nani orphaned. Lilo, a plucky youngster who feeds peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the fish and reveres Elvis Presley, is an outsider with the kids at school and longs for a playmate. Meanwhile, her sibling is struggling to find a job, fending off the steady inquiries of the Social Services rep (voiced with hitman seriousness by usual tough guy Ving Rhames) and trying to placate the smitten beach boy David.

Zoom millions of light years to the planet Turo, where an "illegal genetic experimentation," pegged 626, is being banished to a desert asteroid by the Galactic Federation. This ugly little species-waterproof, fireproof and 3,000 times stronger than his size-was created to reek havoc and destruction. Not surprisingly this wrecking ball creature manages-via spit and strength-to escape his capsule and plummets to earth.

When the unsuspecting Lilo finds 626, she immediately claims him as her pet and names him "Stitch." Of course, Stitch doesn't resemble any earthly dog, cat or hamster and Lilo-always sensitive to anybody who doesn't fit in-quickly explains that Stitch "…used to be a collie before he was run over by a truck." Neither Lilo nor Stitch knows that a Turo search party has been deployed to find and capture 626.
Stitch is still programmed to mangle his surroundings ("Built to destroy, you can never belong," his creator states) and goes pretty crazy at any gathering. But Lilo's unwavering loyalty and belief in "ohana"-a Hawaiian word meaning that "nobody gets left behind or forgotten"-eventually changes the monstrous alien into a loving member of the family.

Fiercer Season 2 of Imortal

Viewers are in for a more raging story as ‘Imortal’ sets on its new chapter. Directors Jerry Lopez-Sineneng, Richard V. Somes and Trina Dayrit promised in an interview that the tale between the Sangres (vampires) and the Wayas (werewolves) will definitely intensify. “Mas dapat abangan ng mga manonood yung mga darating na mga eksena. Ibang klase na ang takbo ng kwento,” Direk jerry shared. “Mas titindi pa ang labanang pangil sa pangil,” Direk Richard said. Direk Trina whole-heartedly agreed to what her co-directors have expressed.

‘Imortal’ stars John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin are both preparing for their heaped on fight scenes. “Patuloy pa rin kaming nagtetraining para sa mga fight scenes namin. Lalo na ako na hindi naman talaga ako action star,” John Lloyd expressed. On the other hand, Angel shared, “Syempre araw-araw kami naghahanda. Mutya Marathon on Saturday

“Mutya,” the newest series to join the primetime race, swam its way to a strong debut as it garnered a 32.6% national rating according to Kantar Media last Monday (January 31).

Beating the rival network’s show who only earned a 19.6% national rating, “Mutya” landed on the second spot of the top 20 programs with its pilot episode.

The whole cast, staff and crew celebrated the success of their show’s premiere right after learning the good news via a thanksgiving party. Directors Erick Salud and Jojo Saguin are very happy with how the viewers embraced their first episode. “Masaya siyempre. All the preparations for the pilot ay naging worth it,” Direk Erick expressed. “This serves as a push for us, the whole team, to do better sa mga susunod na episodes,” Direk Jojo said.

Meanwhile, for those who missed the pilot episode of the newest primetime delight, no need to worry for a “Mutya” marathon will happen this Saturday after E-Live, 4pm to 5:45pm.

Rima Ostwani Joins Showbiz

After evading cameras and media interviews as Diether Ocampo's girlfriend, model Rima Ostwani is now ready to be in the spotlight as she ventures to enter the world of show business.

Ostwani will be handled by multi-awarded manager Boy Abunda.

In an interview, the 24-year-old model said Abunda was supposed to handle only her career as a model and events host.

Much to her surprise, the King of Talk informed her that she will be part of the afternoon series “Agimat” which she immediately agreed to do.

She, however, clarified that she will not quit her job as a personal buyer for VIP clients in Rustan’s.

According to Ostwani, she sees this decision as an adventure and as a challenge. She is well aware that there are a lot of intrigues in the entertainment industry, thus she is preparing herself to face them.

For many people, Ostwani has a very strong resemblance to Ocampo’s former girlfriend Kristine Hermosa. She, however, does not mind this comment saying people are entitled to their own opinion.

She also said she heard Hermosa recently got married to Oyo Boy Sotto and that she is happy for them.

Ostwani disclosed that she did not tell Ocampo about her move to enter show biz.

She stressed though that their breakup was amicable.

Ostwani will be Jolo Revilla's new leading lady.

Mara Clara Bags 34.6% Ratings

Young stars Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes expressed happiness that their series "Mara Clara" drew impressive high TV ratings and rave reviews from viewers from the time it started and up to now that they are opening book 2 of the series.

"Nagpapasalamat po kami dahil sa suporta ng mga tao, sa walang sawang panonood nila sa 'Mara Clara'," Montes said in an interview during a press conference for "Mara Clara"'s book 2.

Montes and Bernardo's first TV project together continues to boom in ratings. Kantar Media's national ratings results showed that for the month of January, "Mara Clara" had a 29.9% average rating, maintaining its top spot among the most watched shows in the country.

On Monday, January 31, the show earned its highest national rating to date, 34.6%, against its rival program, which had a rating of 17.3%.

That Monday's episode was the revelation night when viewers found out that the real del Valle is Mara (Bernardo) and not Clara (Montes).

Bernardo asked viewers to continue to watch their show especially now that they will be switching roles.

"Dapat abangan ang magiging buhay namin ni Clara at conflict sa family," Bernardo said.

Another episode widely anticipated is that of the grand celebration for the 16th birthday of the real del Valle (Bernardo).

Mara will be given a big party for her 16th birthday where she will shine as she dances with more than 16 guys.

Happy Yipee Yehey Premieres on February 12

ABS-CBN on Friday revealed its newest noontime show, "Happy Yipee Yehey."

The network introduced the 8 hosts of the new program, led by former noontime show hosts Randy Santiago and John Estrada.

They will be joined by Mariel Rodriguez, Toni Gonzaga, Benton, YouTube star Jober, Bianca Manalo, and Pinoy Big Brother winner Melai Cantiveros.

Manalo and Cantiveros said they are excited and nervous, as the show will mark their hosting debut.

"Syempre tao lang ako, sobrang kabado talaga ako, Hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin ko dito, pero tanggalin natin ang negative at puro positive lang tayo para mawala ang bad sa mundo," Cantiveros said.

"Kung ano naman ako sa tunay na buhay, 'yun ang nilalabas ko. Gusto nila beauty queen na kikay na maingay na makulit, eh ganyan talaga ako," said Manalo.

The show promises to offer exciting games, surprise numbers, and big-time prizes.

The show will begin on February 12, with a grand pilot episode.

Maricar Reyes Unmasked

Just how long can Philippine star Maricar Reyes pursue a show biz career while strictly maintaining her privacy?

So far she has limited her encounters with the press--lest some inquisitive reporters dare ask about a certain controversy that could've pushed less obstinate souls to go on exile.

But she remains very visible in the scene, primarily because of her role on the ABS-CBN primetime series "Imortal" and her endorsement deal with jewelry firm Karat World.

After some initial hesitation from her handlers, she finally agreed to lift her veil of mystery via an e-mail interview with the Inquirer.

A doctor by profession, Maricar related that she's able to shuttle between the two worlds rather effortlessly.

"I prioritize," she explained. "These days, more time is devoted to acting. Maybe there will come a season when I'll be involved in other endeavors."

She considers medicine her day job.

"I want to maintain a certain level of professionalism in both my careers as a doctor and as an actress," she pointed out.

Do her patients do a double-take whenever she takes their blood pressure?

"They are surprised," she conceded. "But honestly their reaction doesn't last that long."

It can be disconcerting, especially when a patient realizes that this doctor plays a supernatural creature on television.

Is that what she finds exciting about her "night" job? "She can leap tall buildings in a single bound," she quipped.

She hopes to do an indie film soon: "Anything different is worth exploring."

On top of medicine and acting, she has found a new job as jewelry designer for Karat World. "I share my ideas and suggestions," she related.

She described her fashion philosophy as "simple and classic." She looks up to Audrey Hepburn and Angel Aquino as style icons: "They still look elegant even in simple clothes. It's in the way they carry themselves."

Albie Casiño Admits Past Relationship With Andi Eigenmann

Albie Casiño was a relative unknown when he was chosen to play leading man in the top-rating primetime teleserye Mara Clara, which is about to unveil its second season. During the press conference for the upcoming new season of the said drama, Albie told reporters how he started in showbiz. “I was picking up my brother from a photo shoot. My manager now, he approached me and asked if I wanted to do commercials. I posed for a print ad for a soda brand. He made me come to do VTRs here in ABS-CBN, and also go-sees. Then I became part of Gimik 2010, and now I’m in Mara Clara.”

But the hot revelation that was brought up following the press con was Albie’s past relationship with Andi Eigenmann. The 17 year-old newbie actor tried to evade the topic about his erstwhile romance with the Agua Bendita actress. “Inamin niya na ba?” said Albie. However, he decided to man up to the issue and admit the truth. “Oo naging kami. Matagal na. Hindi pa ako artista noon. Hindi pa rin siya artista noon. We were together for a year.”

When asked why their relationship ended, Albie appeared to be careful with his answer. “She broke up with me. But it’s nothing. Mutual, ‘yun na lang.” He clarified though that he and Andi have remained friends despite the split and they still keep in touch with each other. “We still talk. Minsan nagkikita. I knew her since I was eight years old. Hindi naman porke nag-break kami, magiging magkagalit na kami. She’s close to my mom.”

According to some sources, there was a time backstage at ASAP when Andi was seen closely following Albie up to the dressing room. Though not sure if such an incident really happened, Albie defended that he sees nothing wrong if he and Andi would talk. “We’re friends. And wala naman ako masyadong friends sa ASAP. Sa showbiz konti lang friends ko. Sa Mara Clara silang tatlo (Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, and John Manalo) magkakilala na since Goin Bulilit. Ako six months ko pa lang sila kilala and mas matanda pa ako sa kanila.”

Even if they are friends until now, Albie said he thinks it would be best if he and Andi will not work together. “Alam niyo naman ang trabaho namin, puyatan ‘yan. Aaminin ko, kapag puyat ako, may tendency na uminit ‘yung ulo ko. Of course hindi ko naman basta basta inilalabas ‘yun sa ibang tao, lalo na kapag hindi ko naman kilala. Ang totoo kasi medyo outcast ako ngayon sa set. Naglalabas lang ako ng galit sa ka-close ko. Siyempre si Andi close kami. If ever magkatrabaho kami, tapos naging mainit ang ulo namin pareho. Baka magkasalubong. Sayang naman na dahil lang sa work masisira ‘yung friendship namin.”

Piero Vergara on Mutya

Aside from being a regular on Shoutout Level Up, Piero Vergara is also busy taping for his first primetime project on ABS-CBN: the fantaserye Mutya which premiered on January 31. Piero first started in showbiz in 2009 when he joined a teen talent search in another network. The 17 year-old admitted the transition process was not easy but he’s settled in quite well in the Kapamilya network. “I’m now under Star Magic. I really started sa showbiz in GMA. It’s been alright. For a while, things were pretty rough on both ends pero I got to smoothen it out so we’re actually alright na. I met with a few of the people I used to work with at GMA tapos no hard feelings naman. This was a good opportunity and I grabbed it,” he shared.

Playing the role of a spoiled brat named Dennis in Mutya, Piero said that his character is far from his real life persona. But he welcomed the challenge of playing a character that is totally new to him. This Cebuano cutie also wanted to dispel rumors that he is also arrogant in real life. “I really like this role I play in Mutya. I don’t know if people have different opinions because personally I see myself to be a pretty modest person. Pero in this show I’m saksakan ng yabang na tao so it’s a real challenge for me. I enjoy doing it,” he said.

Piero said that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his Hollywood idols Brad Pitt and Matt Damon when it comes to versatility in tackling roles. “When I see the kind of roles that they do, it’s not always the good guy. Sometimes they do cocky roles. I can’t help but think na idol ko yang mga yan so I really hope to achieve that kind of image. So I can consider this role in Mutya as also a kind of dream role,” he said.

Piero is also grateful to be able to work with experienced actresses like Sandy Andolong and Precious Lara Quigaman. “Actually everybody has been really helpful and it’s been a very great learning experience for me kasi this is my first time acting so I’m pretty clueless when I’m on set. I don’t know how to fix my face or do the reactions. When somebody’s talking I don’t even know what to do. I’m just fidgeting,” he admitted.

Piero also had nothing but praises for the star of Mutya, ABS-CBN’s newest child star Mutya Orquija. “She’s so charming and so cute. Sobrang cute niya talaga. I think she’s a humble girl and she learns pretty quickly. She’s got loads of talent. She can deliver lines well. There’s a lot to say about Mutya. She’s so cute. Gusto ko siya i-adopt. So adorable,” he said.

Agimat Presents Kapitan Inggo Premieres This Monday

The real heir of the ‘Agimat’ is back on the boob tube starting February 7 as Jolo Revilla breathes life to Kapitan Inggo, the newest offering of ABS-CBN’s “Agimat presents Ang Mga Alamat ni Ramon Revilla.”

After giving life to the TV version of Pepeng Agimat more than a year ago, Jolo is back to reprise once again a character that his grandfather, Ramon Revilla Sr., portrayed during the 80′s. “This will be the second time that I will be giving life to a classic character originally played by my grandfather. Siyempre the pressure is there, but full support naman ang family ko sa akin. Ayoko naman sila pahiyain siyempre po,” Jolo shared.

As Jolo sets on with his new adventure as Kapitan Inggo, he will be supported by a list of veteran and highly-admired stars: Gary Estrada, Jomari Yllana, Ana Capri, Liza Lorena, Timmy Cruz, Jay-R Siaboc, Maurice Mabutas of Star Circle Quest and Rima Ostwani as Jolo’s leading lady.

Kapitan Inggo is originally a 1984 film starred by Ramon Revilla Sr. The story revolves around Kapitan Inggo and how his amulet helps him become invincible.
