Christian Bautista on Indonesian Film "Jayden's Choir"

“Jayden’s Choir” is Christian Bautista’s first title role in a full length movie ever. Since it’s going to be shown in other countries as well, it can also be considered as the heartthrob’s first international film.

Titled in Indonesia as “Simfoni Luar Biasa”, the film is produced by Nation Pictures, and reportedly has a budget of US $.5M (equivalent to PhP 225 million). It is directed by Awi Suryadi who has helmed 9 films in the past, including the hit Indonesian movie of 2010 titled “I Know What You Did On Facebook”.

Christian portrays the role of a Filipino singer-actor named Jayden Ruiz in the film. The character is a struggling singer whose quest for fame is not quite successful in the Philippines. With his Aunt Penelope’s help, he decides to fly to his mother who lives in Jakarta, Indonesia. There he takes on a job as a music teacher for special children.

Christian is supported by other well known Indonesian actors like Iwa Ribowo and a group of young actors with great singing voices.

“Jayden’s Choir” will premiere on March 17, 2011 in Jakarta, Indonesia and eventually in other Asian countries like the Philippines.

ABS-CBN Dominates the Country in 2010

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, ended 2010 with a bang as its undisputed Primetime Bida line-up capped off the year with a whopping 41% national audience share last December versus GMA 7’s 28%.

Based on Kantar Media’s TV ratings data, ABS-CBN topped all TV stations for the whole of 2010 with an audience share of 43 percent, or 10 points higher than GMA’s 33 percent.

Eighteen out of the top 20 most watched programs nationwide were produced by ABS-CBN.

The phenomenal primetime series “May Bukas Pa,” which told the story of a boy named Santino (played by Zaijian Jaranilla), took the top spot with an average rating of 38.6%. It was followed by the follow up santaserye starring Andi Eigenmann, “Agua Bendita” (37.9%), and hit talent-reality show “Pilipinas Got Talent” (35.3%).

International Emmy-nominated series “Dahil May Isang Ikaw” (34.8%) came in fourth while “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo” (34.3%), which marked the return of Kris Aquino and Gabby Concepcion in a drama series, placed fifth.

When it comes to news, “TV Patrol” dominated 2010 with an average rating of 31.2%, making it the number one TV newscast in the country. GMA’s “24 Oras” averaged only 21.5% or nine points behind “TV Patrol.”

Also included in the top 20 most watched programs for 2010 are “Noah” (32%), “Katorse” (30.3%), “Agimat presents Pepeng Agimat” (29.9%), “Habang May Buhay” (28.7%), “Pinoy Big Brother Double Up” (28.5%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (28.3%), “Imortal” (28.2%), “Mara Clara” (27.8%), “Agimat presents Tonyong Bayawak” (26.8%), “The Singing Bee” (26.5%), “Rated K” (25.6%), and “Agimat presents Elias Paniki” (25.5%).

In December 2010, ABS-CBN posted an average audience share of 37% as compared to GMA 7’s 32%.

ABS-CBN Corporation, the country’s largest multimedia conglomerate, generated net income of P2.9 billion for the first nine months of 2010, as it sustained into the third quarter the strong growth momentum in regular advertising revenues in the first semester. This profit level is more than double the net income of P1.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009.

Kantar Media, a global market research group, offers audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court.

Roxanne Guinoo to Tie Knot on January 23!

Roxanne Guinoo is set to tie the knot with Fil-Chinese businessman Angelo Elton Yap on January 23, 2011.

Roxanne Guinoo is 24 years old while Elton Yap is 21.

Their 2011 wedding was already announced by Roxanne in February 2010 when news broke out that she's pregnant. That time, they couldn't marry each other yet because of "sukob" (Angelo's sister got married in January 2010).

Roxanne gave birth to their first child last September 13, a baby girl they named as Rain Eliana.

Lani Misalucha Back to Guest as Kapamilya

Asia's Nightingale Lani Misalucha said she's happy for her celebrity friends, Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez and singer-composer Ogie Alcasid, who recently tied the knot.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the Las Vegas-based diva congratulated her former defunct Sunday afternoon show co-hosts, who she said are very close to
her heart.

"I couldn't be any happier for them. It's a long overdue event for both of them and marriage is one institution that God gave us. It's something very sacred, it's something that we should treasure and it’s something that we should take really seriously. And I'm very, very happy that they took this road," she said.

When asked to give an advice to the newlyweds, the former Kapamilya star said: "They've been friends at iyon ang magandang bagay sa kanilang relationship. They've been friends first and 'pag kayo magkaibigan,'yon yung point na mas malalaman ninyo ang bawat isa, makikila ninyo ‘yong bawat isa, ‘yong ugali ninyo. I guess hindi sila magkakaroon ng problema kasi click na click sila."

Misalucha returned to the Philippines for her one-woman show slated on January 25. She said she opted not to hold a Valentine concert here to avoid clashing with the likes of Taylor Swift and other foreign acts.

Although she is enjoying fame in the United States, with Las Vegas declaring Dec. 4, 2009 as Lani Misalucha Day, the Filipino singer said she still loves to perform in the Philippines.

While in the Philippines, meantime, Misalucha will appear in some ABS-CBN shows like "Showtime," "ASAP XV" and "The Buzz."

Bea Alonzo Admits Dating Zanjoe Marudo

Actress Bea Alonzo has finally broken her silence on speculations that she and Zanjoe Marudo are dating.

In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” (SNN) on Tuesday, Alonzo admitted that she and Marudo are indeed seeing each other and have gone out on dates.

“Lumalabas kami with friends. Nag-eenjoy kami sa company ng isa’t isa. Nakapanood kami ng MMFF movies with friends,” she said.

The actress further shared that she is ready to love again this 2011.

“Yun ang mga bagay na hindi pinaplano eh. Kung darating darating. Kung ano man ang dumating sa‘yo every single day, kahit hindi sa love life, kahit sa ibang aspeto ng buhay mo, dapat tinatanggap ng maluwag sa dibdib at dapat i-enjoy mo lahat,” she said.

In an earlier interview of SNN with Alonzo, the actress declined to comment on speculations that she and Marudo are getting closer.

Meanwhile, SNN host Bianca Gonzalez confirmed what Alonzo had disclosed. According to her, it is true that Marudo and Alonzo are going out on dates but clarified that they are always with friends.

“Nakasama ko na si Bea at si Zanjoe pero it’s true na with friends. Kasi noong nakasama ko sila, they were also with John Lloyd (Cruz) and Shaina (Magdayao) and Vhong (Navarro) and Vhong’s girlfriend. Friends talaga kami lumalabas,” said Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, who was also linked to Marudo in the past, also expressed how she finds the 2 together.

“Alam mo 'yong mala-prinsesang kagandahan tapos raggedly handsome. Bagay sila. Hindi naman sila super sweet pero talagang, I don’t think kasi they’re hiding kasi they’re going to public places together. Bagay sila,” she said.

Ai-Ai delas Alas on Pilipinas Got Talent Season 2

While Ai-Ai De las Alas is continuing to enjoy box office success with Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To, she is also gearing up for the second season of Pilipinas Got Talent where she again serves as a judge together with Kris Aquino and Freddie Garcia. “Malapit nang magsimula ang season two ng Pilipinas Got Talent. Marami na naman tayong makikitang mga pasabog ng mga mago-audition. At ako naman ay magpapauso uli ng mga linyang tulad ng ‘Binuhay mo ang katawang lupa ko!’ at ‘Tama!’ Abangan ninyo dahil may mga bago na naman ako.”

In the first season, Batangueño Jovit Baldivino emerged as the grand champion and went on to fulfill his dreams of becoming a singer. In the second season of PGT, Ai-Ai wants Filipinos to once again showcase how talented they are. “Napaka-successful talaga ng season one. Nakikita naman natin ngayon kung gaano na karami ang raket ni Jovit, ha ha ha! Sana may sumunod din. Hindi naman kailangan katulad niya, kasi pwede namang ang sumunod na mag champion e babae o kaya grupo. Masaya na sa season two makikita uli natin kung gaano talaga ka talented ang mga Pilipino.”

But of course, there are also the scene-stealers who wowed viewers not because of their talents but because of their comic relief. “Siyempre nandiyan pa rin ‘yung mga parang napadaan lang. Parang nagpa-load lang, ha ha ha! Marami ka rin kasing mga makikitang, wala naman talagang talent pero character kasi. Mga hindi sinasadyang komedyante pala.”

PGT will begin its search for new talents in Davao, then other auditions will follow in Naga, Cebu, and Metro Manila. In the series of auditions that she will take part in, Ai-Ai said she has found a way of giving honest comments that will not deeply offend the contestants. “Nagpapasalamat ako na parang binigyan ako ni Lord ng talent na kahit ano ang sabihin ko hindi ako nakaka-offend pero nakakatawa. Babalansehen mo rin kasi dapat. Ang Pinoy kasi may pagka-sensitive rin. May mga pumupunta sa audition na naghirap pumila, pagod at gutom na.”

Diether Ocampo to Star With Robin Padilla and Bea Alonzo in a Teleserye

After starring in the movie Dalaw, Diether Ocampo returns to TV via Sabel where he plays a wealthy businessman who has taken an interest in Jessy Mendiola’s character. It remains to be seen though whether he’ll be a mainstay or merely a guest star of that popular remake since he’s also preparing for his upcoming teleserye with Bea Alonzo and Robin Padilla, Guns and Roses.

“Actually ngayon pa lang pinaghahandaan ko na yun. I’m doing some research based dun sa concept nung proyekto namin at sa magiging character ko. First time kong makakatrabaho sa isang TV series ang ating iniidolo na si Robin Padilla. Si Bea nakasama ko na sa ASAP at sa ibang events ng ABS-CBN pero ‘di sa isang teleserye na tulad nito so there’s a lot to look forward to,” said Diether in an interview.

Diether further shared that one of his resolutions this year is to focus on his showbiz career and to spend as much time as he can with his loved ones. “I don’t want to lose my momentum lalo na dahil maganda yung mga proyekto ko last year. But at the same time, I want to spend more time with my family. Isa kasi yun sa mga nagiging reklamo ng mga kapamilya ko sa akin. Dahil siyempre ‘pag abala tayo sa trabaho, minsan nate-take for granted mo yung ibang aspeto ng buhay mo. Now I have learned to balance both so maganda ang 2011.”

As a matter of fact, the dashing actor is saving up for a bigger house since his mom has decided to stay at his Quezon City home. “My mom has recently moved in with me. So promise ko sa kanya I would give her a house na may magandang kitchen. Masarap kasi magluto yung nanay ko kasi Kapampangan. I’ve been independent for the longest for the time so blessing in disguise na magkasama ulit kami sa iisang bahay para mas marami akong oras na kasama siya.”

When asked if falling in love is also part of his checklist, Diether simply replied, “I’ll cross the bridge when I get there. Mahirap naman pangunahan yung mga hindi pa nangyayari ‘di ba? It’s hard to expect so mas magandang kung ano na lang dumating at ipagkaloob ng Diyos, I’ll accept it with arms wide open.”

Kathryn Bernardo Happy on Being Compared With Judy Ann Santos

Kathryn Bernardo said that her role as Mara in the primetime TV series Mara Clara has made her a recognizable figure. “Kilala ka na ng tao, kahit saan ka pumunta dahil ‘yon lagi kang pinapanood ng mga tao, nakakatuwa,” she beamed. “Malaking tulong po talaga ang Mara Clara para makilala po ako.”

Kathryn said that while she receives a lot of compliments for her portrayal, the best ones for her are when fans of the first Mara Clara liken her to Judy Ann Santos, who originally portrayed Mara. “[Sinasabi nila] para kang si Judy Ann. Idol ko si Ms. Judai tapos, wow, hindi ako na-compare ng negative sa kanya, gaya ng sinabi nila ng ganon. Sobrang saya [ko] po.”

So far, Kathryn said that she has not yet heard any criticism for her reprisal of Mara. The young actress had previously admitted that Judai’s portrayal in the original series is a tough act to follow. “Wala pa po akong naririnig na negative pero kung meron, okay lang. Hindi ko naman po mapi-please ang lahat ng tao. Basta sa part ko ginagawa ko lang po ‘yung best ko.”

Kathryn also shared that her friendship with her co-star Julia Montes, who plays Clara, is going stronger, even if their characters have an intense hate-filled relationship. “Okay naman po. Everyday kaming nagkikita kaya ‘yung friendship namin lalo pang tumibay.” Kathryn described Julia as down-to-earth, a trait that she likes the most about her co-star. “Sobrang humble n’ya. ‘Yung compliment ko sa kanya [na magaling siya] hindi siya naniniwala ganyan, sobrang bait po niya,” described Kathryn.

The young actress also credits her veteran co-stars for helping her to improve on her craft. “Hindi naman po nila ako pinapabayaan. Sina Miss Gina (Pareño), Tita Mylene (Dizon), tinutulungan po nila akong mag-motivate. Sila talaga ‘yung nagsasabi kailangan mo pang galingan.”

She also named Mylene, who plays her mother in the show, as the co-star who really motivates her to act better. “Sobrang mommy siya sa set. ‘Uy ‘yung camera mo hanapin mo, tapos straight body ka.’ Kahit po off-cam talagang inaalagaan niya ako.”

Kristine Hermosa on Metro Weddings

In a few weeks, Noah actress Kristine Hermosa will finally tie the knot with longtime boyfriend Oyo Boy Sotto. The 27-year old gave some insight on the road that finally led her to matrimony after her ill-fated marriage to Diether Ocampo six years ago. In the current issue of Metro Weddings magazine, the pretty mestiza said she has never let anyone dictate who she should be attracted to. “When it comes to guys, pihikan talaga ako. Hindi mo ako makukuha sa pa-guwapo o sa pa-cute effect mo. Kailangan meron tayong connection or kailangan kilala muna kita, Mas guma-guwapo sa akin yung isang tao ‘pag nakikilala ko na,” she admitted.

In the Metro Weddings cover story, Kristine recalled how she was able to move on from her first marriage. “You can’t heal a broken heart overnight, especially when you’ve already set your mind on what you want to happen. If my mind is set on something, I’ll stick to it no matter what. Hindi puwedeng maiba. So when everything fell apart, I really had a hard time. Talagang disaster, but I had to face it,” she recalls of one of the most trying periods in her life.

Although it took some time after the annulment before she considered dating anyone again, Kristine admitted she didn’t find it hard to spend time with Oyo, her former Enteng Kabisote cast-mate, during that time. “But we weren’t together talaga. People thought that we were both denying it kasi lagi naman kaming magkasama. Parang ba’t ko itatago? Ang tanda ko na para magtago pa. Pang mga 16 years old lang yun. I had no romantic feelings for him. It’s true that we were always together, but I never imagined us being together talaga. I guess ang dami pa nagka-cloud sa mind ko at that time, meron pang ibang tao na I wanted to be with, so it still wasn’t the right time,” she said in the magazine.

Kristine admitted that Oyo Boy was never just a boyfriend to her. “I considered him my best friend. He knew and understood what I was going through. He was just there for me without expecting anything in return,” she said.

Kristine also shared the challenge it has been with all the wedding preparations she is busy with at the moment. “It’s all hectic now, especially because every now and then I’d change my mind because I see or think of something better. But I can pretty much handle it since I’m used to multi-tasking. Still, there are moments when I tend to lose my temper. Oyo always tells me to relax. Oo nga naman. The wedding itself is such a happy moment, so down to the preparations, you should be happy doing it as well,” she said.

The soon-to-be Mrs. Sotto admitted she is happy with her life right now and everything else that came with it. “All my relationships have taught me a lot, so I’m thankful for all those guys in the past. Yes, love is an emotion, but it is also a decision. It’s choosing to stick to that person kahit ano pa ang mood mo today.

Banana Split Explains Burning of Mr. Fu's Picture

The business unit head of “Banana Split” maintained that the burning of Mr. Fu’s photo in one of the show’s episodes was not done out of spite for the radio and TV host.

Cynthia Jordan, the BUH of the said gag show, released the following statement on the matter as posted on PEP Scoopbox, Jan. 3:

"Definitely not true that we 'hate' mr fu. the segment was abt 'things that u have to leave' 2010. Isa duon ay yung mga overused terms like 'meganun' and 'eowphoz', and yung mga tampuhan issues like [C]ristine (Reyes) n [Sarah Geronimo], [A]ga [Muhlach] n [S]haron [Cuneta] etc. pinakita dun ang mga pics nila but it doesnt mean na galit kami sa kanila, we are referring to the issue related to them and not them per se. Hope this clears out any [miscommunication] issues,” her statement read.

“Pinoy Big Brother” big winner Melai Cantiveros, who hosted the segment that was part of the New Year’s Day episode of “Banana Split,” became the target of criticism, reportedly of Mr. Fu’s fans, for burning the comedian’s photo.

Jordan reportedly said that Cantiveros has nothing personal against Mr. Fu, as Cristy Fermin related in the Jan. 3 episode of “Juicy.”

As posted also on PEP Scoopbox, Mr. Fu aired his sentiments on Cantiveros’ act.

"Wala naman akong nagagawang masama kay Melai para gawin niya yun. At di ko gagawin yun sa kanya[…] no one deserves that. Happy New Year!" he was quoted as saying.

Earlier, he made a seemingly related post on the matter via his Twitter account.

“i don't burn bridges...and i don't burn pictures...ay..may ganon?!” he tweeted on Monday afternoon.

In response to a follower, who tweeted, “sinunog ni melai yung picture mo sa banana split,” Mr. Fu said, “oo. maganda kasi siya. chos. may ganon?!”

Mr. Fu’s photo was the last item burned in Cantiveros’ “Banana Split” segment.

“Iwanan na natin sa 2010 ang nakakarinding katagang ‘meganun?’” she began, holding a photo of Mr. Fu with “meganun,” a term he popularized.

Pointing to Mr. Fu’s face, Cantiveros added: “Tingnan mo ‘yung mukha nito parang si Megatron!”

She then threw the photo into a large garbage bin where photos of other personalities and subjects have already been burned.

“Hayan, nasusunog na si Megatron! At sama-sama silang nasusunog! Sana hindi natin sila marinig, makita o ma-experience sa 2011!” said Cantiveros.

Other subjects-to-be-forgotten that Cantiveros mentioned include the words “jejemon” and “major major;” the highly publicized rifts between Claudine Barretto and Angelica Panganiban, between Aga Muhlach and Sharon Cuneta, and between Cristine Reyes and Sarah Geronimo; the Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson love team; trite teleserye storylines; and even the popular online game “Plants vs. Zombies.”

Though intended to be a comic segment, the hosts of “Juicy” didn’t find Cantiveros’ act funny.

“Alam mo ang gawin mo sunugin mo ‘yang ‘over, over’,” said IC Mendoza, pertaining to Melai’s infamous expression.

Although shows follow certain scripts, Fermin said that artists should also be responsible for the lines assigned to them.

Although sharp-tongued Mo Twister respects Cantiveros’ statement, he appealed to her to have “a little credibility.”

“Ayaw niya ng ‘may ganon,’ fine. Pero Melai, have a little credibility. There’s nothing you do that Mr. Fu can’t do better…” he said.

Fermin cited fellow showbiz writer Reggie Bonoan’s column which included a statement purportedly made by Cantiveros during her segment.

“Sa column ng ating kasamang si Reggie Bonoan, ang nakalagay, [sinabi ni Melai na] ‘wag nating pamarisan ang taong ito [Mr. Fu],'” she said.

Cantiveros, however, did not utter the said quote in her spiel.
