Malparida on ABS-CBN

In the tradition of Rubi, ABS-CBN will bring another Latinovela about vengeance and love entitled Malparida, a 2010 Argentine telenovela. The main character, Renata (played by Juana Viale) is an antihero, a cold and scheming woman seeking revenge against a man that had caused the death of her mother. The term "Malparida" denotes in Spanish a woman of questionable reputation. Malparida premieres on January 3.

The plot of Malparida is as follows:

Twenty years ago, Lorenzo Uribe discovered true love with Maria Herrera and began a romance. Lorenzo was rich, married, and had a young son: Lautaro. Maria was poor and unknown to Lorenzo, had a daughter called Renata. Maria's mother, Gracia, wanted her daughter to catch this rich man at all costs and convinced her that pregnancy would assure this. But before she could tell him, Uribe was pressured by his father to respect his obligations and regretfully ended the romance. He never knew that Maria gave birth to a child of his, an autistic son called Manu. Gracia drove her already depressed and heartbroken daughter Maria to commit suicide, and ended up raising Renata, teaching her to hate Lorenzo and blame him for Maria's death. The story begins when Renata decides to take revenge on Lorenzo. Her mission was to seduce him, get him madly in love with her, leave him and watch him die of love. However, she didn't count on falling in love with Lautaro nor did she know of Lorenzo's dangerous brother, the Admiral.

Kapamilya Stars Give Love on Christmas Day!

Giving back the love to the people who supported them in their own little way are celebrities Kris Aquino, Deither Ocampo, Derek Ramsay, Zaijian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat, Maliksi Morales, Karylle and Empress Shuck who organized separate or joint gift-giving missions in time for the Yuletide season.

Kris Aquino spread her kind of love by distributing Noche Buena gift packs in her native Tarlac and in Pasig City. Kris shared on ''Showbiz News Ngayon,'' Dec. 24. Joining Kris in the sharing mission were Pokwang and Diether Ocampo. ''Si Pokie nandito. Before seven in the morning nagkita na kami. Nag-convoy kami papunta dito. It just so happened na marami akong mga mababait na kaibigan who wanted to help me with this project,'' Kris said. Kris visited Maybunga Elementary School in Pasig City where nine barangays of 1,500 families benefited from her Noche Buena gift packs. The TV host explained why she chose Pasig as beneficiary. '''Noy garnered... Pasig was one of the highest as far as votes is concerned. I was able to do it,'' Kris related. Although it is physically taxing as ''maraming mga activities, maraming ginagawa pero it feels good kasi Christmas naman na puwede kang magpasalamat sa lahat ng nagpaganda ng mga taon mo.''

Derek Ramsay, who is one of World Vision's ambassadors, cheered up residents of Barangay Bustamante in Isabela, which were badly struck by typhoon Juan.

Angelica Panganiban's boyfriend joined the World Vision Noche Buena Caravan and distributed construction materials and gift packs. The hunk actor felt good as he is able to reach out for people devastated by the past typhoon. ''It was really moving. It's just amazing how just being there put a smile on their face and it's something for them to talk about for that day, for that week.

Young that they are, child wonders Ziajian Jaranilla, Xyriel Manabat and Maliksi Morales brought Yuletide cheers to indigents children in a gift-giving activity arranged by the Kapamilya network at the ABS-CBN chapel on Dec. 21. The activities included giving of gifts, feeding the children and bonding with the impoverished kids. Maliksi echoed the feeling.

Since 2005, hunk actor Diether Ocampo has been giving love on Christmas through his K.I.D.S. (Kabataang Inyong Dapat Suportahan) Foundation. Diet's group visited a town in Batangas this year. Together with some volunteers from other organizations, Diet organized a medical-dental and gift-giving missions. ''Lumilibot naman talaga kami. Hopefully makaikot tayo sa maraming areas para maka-distrubute ng mga school supplies,'' Diet said, adding about 700 kids registered for the activity. The actor is grateful to Batangas Governor Vilma Santos for supporting his mission. Diet is grateful over the steady stream of graces he received this year. ''I'm so thankful at malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa Diyos sa lahat ng mga sumusuporta sa atin.'' With this, his heart is happy this Christmas even though he's loveless at the moment.

Karylle once again treated sick kids of Child Haus (Center for Help Improvement on Life Development), a halfway home for children afflicted with various diseases, to a film screening. She's been a volunteer for Child Haus for five years now. ''Enjoy na enjoy ang kids. Nakaupo sila doon. Konting pindot lang may darating for the popcorn, ganyan. Enjoy na enjoy silang mag-recline ng seat. Simpleng joy lang na gano'n. Talagang kahit for one afternoon talagang they felt super special,'' Karylle recalled. Victor Basa, who joined Karylle in this mission, is thankful for the experience. ''We wanna say thank you kasi when you see the kids inside talagang parang treated na sila talaga, eh,'' he said. Karylle's mom, Zsa Zsa Padilla, was happy to learn that ''for them this Christmas daw is the best Christmas.'' ''Ang daming naka-line-up. Sana mas maging generous tayo ngayong Christmas,'' she said.

Wendy Valdez was touched by the kids' gesture of giving back the love they received from the participating celebrities. ''Ang sweet nila. Nagbigay sila ng mga cards. Talagang pinaghirapan nila 'yung pag-drawing,'' Wendy shared.

Empress Shuck looked back on her roots in Sta. Cruz, Manila by surprising her neighbors with a gift-giving activity. The young actress hopes 2011 would be a better year.

On Spotlight: Benjamin de Guzman of Shout Out!

Kris Aquino Defends Ai-Ai delas Alas for the MMFF Best Actress Trophy

Queen of All Media Kris Aquino defended her show business friend Ai Ai delas Alas after the latter won the Metro Manila Film Festival's Best Actress trophy for her film "Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To."

During the event, several people questioned delas Alas's victory. Joan Cabaldo-Bañaga, line producer of Cinemabuhay and Studio 5's “Rosario", said she was surprised that Jennylyn Mercado was not nominated for the best actress category.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Kris said delas Alas gave her best in the film and really deserved to win.

She noted that like Mercado, she was also not nominated. (Kris is starring in the horror movie "Dalaw.")

"I didn't get a single nomination so I have no reaction about that, hindi ba? Good sports kami (ni Ai Ai). Kasi as I've always said ang pinaka-importante ang pagbayad ng tao ng pinaghirapan nilang pera sa takilya, hindi ba? So for me that is award enough. So I would like to thank everybody. Consistent kami, on Day 2 pang number 3 kami. So thank you," she said.

She said that she's happy and proud of delas Alas.

"Super happy for her. So tama. So congrats, friendship! I'm so proud of you," Aquino said.

Aquino said she is super happy that her movie did not bomb at the box office.

"Kung hindi ako kumikita, didibdibin ko ito ng husto pero dahil kumikita ang pelikula ay super happy ako," she said.

Robin Padilla's New Married Life on The Buzz Magazine

In the latest issue of The Buzz Magasin, Robin Padilla shares more anecdotes about his whirlwind love story with Mariel Rodriguez and the adjustments he had to make after getting married again unexpectedly. The action star admits that he was totally caught by surprise by his growing feelings towards Mariel after working with her on his short hosting stint in Wowowee. “Walang plano yun.

The 41-year-old hunk says he also had reservations about admitting his feelings for Mariel because of their more than 10 year age gap. “Pinigil ko pa yun, natatakot akong ma-basted. Bata eh,” he admits. In the cover story, Robin also clarifies the issue that they did not have a formal courtship.

Now that they are married, Robin admits he had to undergo a period of adjustment again after living the bachelor life since his divorce in 2009. “Ang tagal kong nabuhay mag-isa. Kung minsan nasisipa, nasisiko (sa kama). Siguro nasanay na akong walang katabi. Parang na-rewind yung buhay ko. Nag-asawa talaga ako,” he admits. Robin admits that Mariel also had to adjust by being a doting wife, even though she admits she doesn’t know how to cook. Dahan-dahan yan. Mag-aral ka muna ng pormal na pagluluto.’ Kasi nakakaawa (siya) puro talsik ng mantika,” he shares. This holiday season, Robin hopes to get the chance to go on a real honeymoon with Mariel if their schedule permits. He is currently busy working on a new teleserye with Bea Alonzo which will be shown next year as well as doing post-production on the movie that he and Mariel made in India.

Gerald Anderson Knows His New Team-Up Might Result to Controversies

Ai-Ai delas Alas Overwhelmed for Her MMFF Best Actress Award

During the 36th Metro Manila Film Festival awards night held last December 26 at the Meralco theater in Pasig, Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To lead star Ai Ai Delas Alas could barely hold back the tears as she accepted the award for Festival Best Actress. The family comedy had bagged a total of nine awards for the night, which also included Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress.

The 46-year-old comedienne admitted that she felt the pressure building up as her film started winning more and more awards throughout the night. This was because the Best Actress award was one of the last to be announced during the show. It was hard not to see the mixture of happiness and relief when Ai Ai went onstage to receive the award. Diyos ko, thank you. Thank you, Lord. Maraming salamt po, pati sa jurors. Siyempre MMFF thank you so much sa mga taong bumoto at sa Star Cinema, sa ABS-CBN family, siyempre salamat kay Direk Wenn, at sa lahat ng mga anak ko sa movie, kay Marvin, Shaina, Nikki, lahat sila magagaling dito, salamat talaga,” she said.

Ai Ai also thanked her present manager Boy Abunda, as well as her former talent managers. She also didn’t forget to thank her friends from the press, but didn’t have the time to name everyone.

Ai Ai also shared her award with Rosario lead actress Jennylyn Mercado, who surprisingly did not make it into being nominated in the Best Actress category. Instead, Ai Ai’s co-nominees were Marian Rivera and Carla Abellana (for Super Inday and the Golden Bibe and Shake, Rattle & Roll XII respectively). Ai Ai nonetheless admitted that she had considered Jennylyn to be a worthy contender. Bibigyan na lang kita ng marami next time,” she commented in jest.

Ai Ai also dedicated her award to one of her closest friends in showbiz, Dalaw actress Kris Aquino (who arrived at the event escorted by a group of PSG bodyguards). Ai Ai said her Best Actress win was definitely an answered prayer for her. “Sabi ko kay God, ‘God sana mag-top grosser kami tsaka sana Best Actress ako.’ Ayan, binigay niya agad.

Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To Dominates at the MMFF Awards Night

Last December 26, Star Cinema MMFF entry Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na ‘To was the undisputed big winner in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival held at the Meralco theater in Pasig City. The comedy bagged nine awards including Best Picture, Best Actress (Ai Ai Delas Alas), Best Director (Wenn Deramas), Best Supporting Actress (Eugene Domingo), Best Child Performer (Xyriel Manabat), Best Musical Score, Best Gender Sensitive Film, Best Story, and Best Screenplay. That was also the highest number of awards won by a film that night. The movie’s lead star Ai Ai Delas Alas led the cast in accepting the award onstage.

“Salamat sa Metro Manila filmfest. Touched kami. Tama. Tama lahat,” she says in jest as the audience broke into laughter.

A tearful Ai Ai also thanked her reel and real-life offspring. Sabi ko ‘Thank you po Ma’am Charo,” she shares.

Star Cinema’s animated entry RPG:Metanoia was also successful as they went home with four awards including Best Sound Recording, Best Theme Song, Festival award for 3rd Best Picture and a special citation for being the Best Gender Sensitive Film in animation.

Albert Martinez’s directorial debut film Rosario won recognition in seven categories, Best Supporting Actor (Dolphy, who also won the Best Actor award for his RVN-produced film Father Jejemon), Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Cinematographer, Best Festival Float, Festival award for 2nd Best Picture and the Gatpuno Cultural Award. Other awardees included Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote which won the Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects awards and Super Inday and the Golden Bibe which shared the Best Sound Recording Award along with RPG:Metanoia. Adolf Alix’s indie film entry Presa, which competed with four other entries in the category, won the P100,000 cash prize. Other special awards include male and female Face of the Night which was won by Bong Revilla Jr. and Sam Pinto while the Best Dressed Male and Female Celebrity award was brought home by couple Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado. Ruffa Gutierrez hosted the star-studded event along with her brothers Richard and Raymond Gutierrez.
