Sabel Receives Good Feedback!

Mga beterano’t baguhang aktres at aktor ang nagsama-sama sa pinaka-bagong primetime series sa ABS-CBN, ang ‘Sabel.’ Ngunit hindi pahuhuli ang bawat isa pagdating sa aktingan.

Bago pa mang maituturi sa larangan ng aktingan sina Jessy Mendiola, ang gumaganap na Sabel, Aj Perez at Joseph Marco, makikita na maganda ang hinaharap ng tatlo sa kanilang mga karera. Ang kanilang direktor na si Don Cuaresma ay bilib sa husay ng tatlong baguhan. “Magaling sina Jessy, Aj and Joseph. Siguro nakatulong na komportable na sila sa isa’t isa, pero nakakabilib na sa isang take kuha ng ng tatlo yung eksena,” pahayag ni Direk Don.

Samantala, walang kupas pa rin ang galing nina Rita Avila, Raymund Bagatsing, Daria Ramirez, Tommy Abuel, at Glydel Mercado. Hindi matatawaran ang kanilang pagganap sa mga mapanghamon nilang mga papel sa ‘Sabel.’

Sa pagpapatuloy ng Sabel, malalaman na ni Margaret (Rita na si Sabel (Jessy) ang dahilan kung bakit ayaw nang pumsok ni Dido (AJ) sa seminaryo. Makakapekto kaya itong rebelasyon na ito sa pagkakaibigan nina Sabel at Dido?

Huwag palalampasin ang salpukan ng mga bituin sa ‘Sabel,’ Lunes hanggang Biyernes sa ABS-CBN pagkatapos ng “Shout Out.”

ABS-CBN Regional Network Group's Grand Halad sa Kapamilya

Over 10,000 people gathered in the one-hectare grounds of Mabolo Elemantary School in Cebu City recently, to avail of the free services of the much-awaited Grand Halad sa Kapamilya of the ABS-CBN Regional Network Group. About P5-million worth medicines, eyeglasses and other service products were given away, not to mention the free services rendered.

As early as 1 a.m., participants who came mostly from Metro Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Negros Oriental, started piling up at the venue just right for the hundreds of volunteers and donors who attended.

Senior citizens were given priority through express lanes for the medical and dental missions as well as in other government services such as the one stop service shop of Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Social Security System, Pagibig, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and National Statistics Office (NSO).

Over 5,000 patients were given free medicines after consultations with volunteer doctors and nurses from Cebu City Medical Center, Cebu City Health Department, University of the Visayas, University of Cebu and Southwestern University. The medical and dental services were held inside the school’s Benedicto Memorial Gym.

Most of the patients who attended the medical mission came with their families. Cough and colds were the common ailments . Medicines like Paracetamol and Multivitamins were given to them by the doctors as an immediate relief.

About 600 patients, on the other hand, availed of the free dental services rendered by the Cebu City Council Committee on Health and Hospital Services and the Philippine Air Force (PAF).

Minor surgeries were also performed to about 200 patients by the surgeons of Cebu Doctors University Hospital (CDUH), while more than 2,000 patients availed the free laboratory services such as the free chest x-ray, FBS and cholesterol, optical services and free reading eyeglasses, pulmonary test and nutrition counseling. The medicines and medical equipment were donated by Jessu Christi Community.

Patients who were diagnosed with severe illness were immediately referred to the charity wards of Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Chong Hua Hospital and Cebu Doctors University Hospital.

During this joyous day of pure public service, about 300 people participated the Kapamilya Blood Donation Campaign held in five venues simultaneously.

ABS-CBN Cebu’s Kapamilya Relief Campaign also gave away relief goods to the poor families of Mabolo and its neighboring barangays. Other partner organizations distributed seedlings, candies and bread. Bantay Bata 163 and the Naval forces Central sponsored mass feeding, children’s games and free haircut.

Free livelihood seminars such as techno skills demo, business plan making, financial literacy, organic farming and waste treatment and segregation were attended by about 2,500 people. Some beneficiaries brought along their pets for free veterinary services from Cebu City Veterinarian’s Office. TESDA and IECEP also offered free mobile phone and personal computer repairs.

Sagip Kapamilya Foundation, 71 Dreams Foundation, Matahari Trading, Popular Feed Mills Corp., Wow Travel and More and the Department of Health are only of the few medicine donors in the well-attended Kapamilya gathering.

Mara Clara Intensifies as it Leads Nationwide

Mas tumitindi pa ang mga eksena sa top-rating series sa ABS-CBN, ang ‘Mara Clara,’ sabay sa pagtaas pa ng ratings nito.

Noong Miyerkules (November 8), nakamit ng ‘Mara Clara’ ang unang pwesto sa top 20 programs nationwide ayon sa Kantar Media. Nakakuha ng 27.1% na rating ang nasabing palabas kaya naman tinalo nito ang katapat nitong programa sa GMA 7, ang ‘Jillian: Namamasko Po’ na 14.6% lamang ang nakuha.

Samantala, halos magulpi si Mara (Kathryn Bernardo) ni Gary (Jhong Hilario) dahil nabalitaan ng huli mula kay Clara (Julia Montes) na si Mara ay kayakap si Christian (Albie Casino). Ang totoo niyan ay dinadamayan lang naman ni Mara ang kaibigan. Ngunit iba ang naging basa ng kanyang matalik na kaibigan at matinding kaaway na si Clara at akala’y lumalandi na si Mara.

Magiging ugat kaya ito ng mas malalim pa na pagaaway nina Mara at Clara? Abangan ang mga susunod na tagpo sa ‘Mara Clara’ sa ABS-CBN pagkatapos ng ‘Noah’ sa Primetime Bida.

Kris Aquino on Co-Producing Dalaw

For Dalaw lead star/co-producer Kris Aquino, reaping awards from the 2010 Metro Manila Film Fest is not really her goal, but rather for the film to hit the P150 million mark at the box office. “Ganon ka-brutal talaga ‘pag producer ka. Kasi para itong eleksyon, tinaya mo ang sarili mo, pinondohan mo ang sarili mo. Plus this is my comeback. I have not done a film after four years and I’m following two blockbuster movies. Siyempre ang laki ng pressure talaga. Ang wish ko kung ‘di man mapantayan, ma-in between man lang. If Feng Shui is nasa P14 million range and nasa P210 million ang Sukob, sana naman kumita ng P150 million to P170 million ang Dalaw, please,” said the Queen of Horror Films in a recent press con.

Just thinking about the amount of money she has invested in Dalaw only adds to the pressure she’s feeling right now. But she stressed that the quality of materials they’ve used is worth all the time, money, and effort they have given to the project. “Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat at kami lang ang gumamit ng film sa lahat ng entries. Meron kaming three days na naka-steady cam so tatlong film cameras ang ginamit namin. Naka-Dolby Digital din kami. Malaki talaga ang nagastos kaya sumakit talaga ang ulo at batok ko. Sinabi ko, ‘Ano ba itong pinasok namin?’ But you just have to be positive na people will have their bonuses, people will have their money. It’s something na hopefully yung mga nagtratrabaho at nagpapamilya will like kasi it’s basically a story about a mother and her child.”

When asked about Dalaw’s closest competitors among the MMFF entries, Kris claimed that she’s willing to land in third place following popular crowd-drawers Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat Last na to and Si Agimat At Si Enteng. “I know talaga as far as box office supremacy is concerned, it’s Vic Sotto, Bong Revilla, and Ai-Ai (de las Alas) ang makakalaban ko. But I wish everybody the best. Dapat naman lahat kami kumita talaga. Papa Albert Martinez is such a friend, I know he gave his heart and soul sa Rosario. Nag-shooting pa siya sa Hacienda Luisita, he asked my permission for that… Marian Rivera is a dear friend of mine also so sana naman lahat kami pagpalain.”

If Dalaw turns out to be a huge success, Kris said that she’s willing to produce another movie next year. “Huwag lang kami malugi, yes uulit ako. Bimby told me na, ‘Mama for the next movie I have to be the star.’ Oh my God. Sabi ko, ‘Bimby kung ikaw na ang mag-star mababaliw na yung mama mo talaga.’ Dahil sa sinehan lahat bibilhin na talaga to make sure [na hit yung movie]. Sabi kasi niya, ‘Why am I not there mama?’ Sabi ko, ‘Because you’re very mahal.’ Yung mga kasama ko naman ang sabi sa akin natuto na daw sila. Na para ‘di ako umuuwi at cut-off dapat lahat ng projects ko co-producer ako. Para hindi ako nagku-complain at kahit pahiga-higain, patakbuhin at patalunin gagawin,” she added with a laugh.

Enchong Dee Signs Contract With Star Cinema

Enchong Dee was very happy to sign a two-picture contract with Star Cinema for 2011. He told Push.com.ph and ABS-CBN internal media, “Napakasaya ko kasi hindi pa tapos ‘yung 2010 e napa-plano na ‘yung 2011 ko. Parang sa mga nasa wish list ko for 2011, may ilan dun na naka-check na. I’m very thankful to ABS-CBN and Star Cinema.” Enchong is slated to do another romantic comedy film with ka-love team Erich Gonzales, a follow up to their last flick I Do, and one supposedly with Kim Chiu.

Enchong also received a cheque with a “seven-figure” amount from Star Cinema Managing Director Malou N. Santos as his bonus for the success of his last movie I Do. “I feel blessed kasi parang I am one of the few stars na nakikitaan na ng management ng potential, kaya tuloy sila nagi-invest na sa amin.”

Having scored two high-rating primetime teleseryes and a hit movie, Enchong is said to have snatched the “hot young leading man” crown from Gerald Anderson. Enchong, however, doesn’t want to think about competing with his good friend Gerald or any other actors in the industry. “Like what others would normally say, pana-panahon lang ‘yan. I can’t say na mas sikat na ako kay Gerald o kung kanino man. Basta thankful ako sa mga blessings na dumadating. Dadating din ‘yung panahon na may bagong star na papalit. Cycle lang ‘yan.”

The 22-year-old swimmer-turned-actor is just happy to be in ABS-CBN where he believes most of the hot leading men in showbiz are. “Marami namang hot leading men ngayon, at karamihan sa kanila e narito sa ABS-CBN. Nagkataon lang na narito na ako sa lugar na ito.”

Enchong said that rather than being conscious about elevating his status in showbiz, he would rather focus on developing his talents with the quality projects he is given. He confessed that he would be startled whenever a fellow artista in the new daily variety show ShoutOut would come up to him and call him “idol.” “Nakakatuwa kasi sa ShoutOut parang ang tingin sa akin ng ibang stars dun, tinitingala na nila ako, ina-idolize, nire-respeto. Sana raw maging katulad nila ako. Sinasabi ko tuloy, ‘E ako kaya tumitingala rin kina John Lloyd (Cruz) at Piolo (Pascual)!’ Ang aga naman para tingalain nila ako. But it’s a good feeling na nagiging inspirasyon ka sa ibang artista.”

John Lloyd Cruz, Best Leading Man for Toni Gonzaga

Toni Gonzaga is still overwhelmed by the success of her latest movie, My Amnesia Girl (co-starring John Lloyd Cruz), and admitted that it is one of her best movies so far. However, she explained that this should not be compared to her previous movies with Sam Milby or Vhong Navarro, which have also been successful. “Magkakaibang level. Memorable din naman sa akin ‘yung iba dahil grateful ako dun sa mga [dating ka-partner ko], grateful ako sa mga naging kapares ko. I think it takes two to tango talaga sa isang pelikula. It’s a team effort with co-artists, sa director, group of writers, so it’s a collaboration talaga.”

The actress-host became emotional at the thanksgiving party of the film last week and thanked John Lloyd because he agreed to do the film with her even when he could have said no. She added that she knows how busy Lloydy is with his projects and commitments.

She also has nothing but praise for how good an actor Lloydy is and shared that she learned a lot from him. “Ang isang mahusay na aktor mapagbigay. Hindi ka niya iniiwanan sa isang eksena. Hindi siya selfish na actor. Kung ano’ng husay niya, kung anong tamang gawin, kung anong maitutulong niya sa eksena itinuturo niya sa akin. Ngayon lang ako nakatrabaho ng ganun kagaling,” she beamed. She said that all her previous leading men are good, but Lloydy is the best so far. “Iba ‘yung dating ni Lloydy kaya thankful ako sa kanya.”

Toni was also asked what she thought about her first leading man, Sam Milby, then. “Iba pa rin ‘yung love team namin ni Sam dahil first official love team ko talaga ‘yon. Sa amin ni Sam wala naman pwedeng pumalit kahit kanino magkakaiba sila na nasa puso ko. Sam will always be my original love team and he’s part of my life dito sa industry. Kaya I’m willing to work with Sam ulit.” She added that Sam is also slated to do a movie with KC Concepcion.

Toni shared that she actually did not expect My Amnesia Girl to be such a blockbuster hit, but said that she is glad that she gave it her all. Even the film’s director, Direk Cathy Garcia-Molina, said that this is Toni’s best movie ever. “Kasi ibinigay ko lang ang buong puso ko. Hindi ko na inisip kung anuman ang magiging resulta niya. Basta ang nasa isip ko lang sana maibigay ko ‘yung hinihingi sa akin sa pelikulang ito para naman makita nila na deserving naman pala [ako] na magkaroon ng ganitong pelikula at deserving din [ako] na makatrabaho si John Lloyd.”

ABS-CBN Wants Judge to Inhibit in Willie Revillame Case

The camp of ABS-CBN on Monday filed an urgent motion with the Regional Trial Court in Quezon City seeking an early resolution of its previous pleas for Judge Luisito Cortez to inhibit himself from hearing the legal dispute between the network and Willie Revillame.

The legal battle began when the actor moved to ABC TV5 and sued ABS-CBN for judicial confirmation of rescission of his talent contract.

In its petition, the Kapamilya network noted the “numerous conflicting orders and resolutions” handed down by Judge Cortez.

It also cited an “undisclosed relationship” between the spouse of Cortez, lawyer Angelita Ortega Cortez, and ABC 5 president Ray Espinosa.

Ms Cortez and Espinosa worked in the same law firm in the past.

The lawyers argued that this “hidden fact” that had been recently discovered gives rise to a conflict of interest situation for Judge Cortez.

“Espinosa’s relationship with the spouse of [Judge Cortez] gives rise to the question of whether such relationship was taken advantage of [in the case] given the manner [Judge Cortez] handled the case to favor plaintiff Revillame and prejudice ABS-CBN,” the motion stated.

Judge Cortez previously declined to issue a temporary restraining order (TRO) sought by ABS-CBN against the actor performing work for ABC TV5. He required Revillame to post a P426-million bond to answer for the damages being claimed by his former station for breach of his talent contract.

ABS-CBN previously complained that after the denial of the TRO, Judge Cortez “shut down his court to defendant ABS-CBN’s urgent application of injunctive relief, giving Espinosa, ABC and plaintiff Revillame a sigh of relief.”

ABS-CBN also charged Judge Cortez with bias and partiality for approving the P426-million bond posted by Revillame, which purportedly contained the actor’s “forged signature.”

In support of the charge, a side-by-side comparison of the actor’s signatures was presented in court to show the signature of Revillame on the bond “does not even remotely look like” his other signatures in documents previously submitted to the court.

The network said that the submission of the bond with a forged signature is “perjury” and “falsification of commercial document.”

If the forgery is proven, Revillame can face criminal charges involving penalties of up to 12 years of imprisonment.

This is in addition to the other lawsuits the actor is already facing since he moved to a different station bringing “Wowowee” with him.

Sarah Geronimo Was Only Joking

Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo’s personal assistant and friend has come to her defense via microblogging site Twitter.

This is in connection with Cristine Reyes’s angry tweets, which many believe are aimed at the singer-actress.

According to Anna Dasig, Reyes shouldn’t have given meaning to Geronimo’s purported statement about how a man is always being chased by a sexy woman if he is a good dancer.

Based on the sultry actress's tweets, it was that remark that caught her ire.

“@PilyangSweet nagbibiruan lang sila ni john pratts kanina..ewan ko kung bakit kailangan mong mag react ng over ng ganito? Relax ka lang! Alamin mo muna kung ano ang puno't-dulo bago ka magreact ng ganyan,” she tweeted.

Showbiz insiders said Geronimo purportedly made the remark during the dress rehearsals for musical variety show “ASAP XV.”

The show's mainstays - Prats, Gab Valenciano, and Rayver Cruz - were reportedly rehearsing a dance number.

Cruz was both linked to Reyes and Geronimo, lead star of the now defunct television series “Idol.”

Prats also said he sees nothing wrong with Geronimo’s remark. He hopes that the 2 can patch things up especially now that Christmas is near.

ABS-CBN News tried to get a statement from Star Magic, talent management of Cruz, but it declined to comment on the issue.

Cristine maintains stance

Reyes, on the other hand, refused to accept Dasig’s explanation.

“At @Annadasig yung alaga mo pagsabihan mo wag ako! nananahimik ako,” she tweeted. “@annadasig wag siya kamo MAGBIRO ng Ganun Kung alam niya may pinaparinggan siya!”

She added: "@annadasig at kapag magpaparinig man o magbibiro make sure its true! kasi alam mo naman na siya ang halos mamatay na sa kakahahol. Diba?”

This is not the first time that Reyes was involved in a quarrel with a fellow celebrity.

She had also engaged Pauleen Luna in a Twitter war of words.

Kim Chiu Defends Kimerald Fans

Tanging pasasalamat lamang ang nasabi ni Kim Chiu kay Jewel Mische na tinuran ang una bilang nag-iisang reyna para kay Gerald Anderson kahit na magkaka-project ang dating GMA-7 artist kasama ang actor sa susunod na taon. “Thankful. Matatandaang naging negatibo ang tingin sa mga Kimerald fans nang magpadala diumano ang ilan sa kanila ng death threats nang pumutok ang isyung may relasyon umano sina Gerald at Bea Alonzo.

“Okay naman sila and andyan naman sila para sumuporta and umalalay sa amin (ni Gerald) at lagi pa rin silang pumupunta sa mga tapings. Sa taping ko ng Your Song lagi silang nandyan,” anang aktres.

Ipinagtanggol din niya ang mga ito sa mga lumalabas na mga masasamang balita tungkol sa mga fans. "Gusto ko ring linawin hindi ko kinukunsinti ang mga fans. Bakit naman tayo maninira ng ibang artista syempre nagtatrabaho naman po tayo and kawawa din naman po ‘yung mga Kimerald fans lagi na lang po silang nasasabihan ng masama, lagi silang nasasabihan ng nang-aaway, eh hindi naman po talaga.”
