Marvin Agustin is Back!

Marvin Agustin is back to ABS-CBN, but only for the Star Cinema movie "Ang Tanging Ina Mo, Last Na 'To".

The actor said that he just feels happy to be back at ABS-CBN and promote Star Cinema's comedy film, which is an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

The former ABS-CBN contract star was taken aback by the changes inside the Kapamilya network when he took part of Ang Tanging Ina, Last Na ‘To press conference last December 2. “Kinabahan nga ako e. Iba na hitsura ng (ABS-CBN) compound. Ang dami nang harang. Dati labas-pasok lang kami,” was Marvin Agustin’s feelings about stepping in the station where his career was launched years ago.

Marvin started out his showbiz career with ABS-CBN back in the mid 90’s, and in 2003 he played the eldest son of AiAi Delas Alas in the very first Ang Tanging Ina film made by Star Cinema. When the sequel Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat was made in 2008, Marvin was already working for rival station, GMA 7.�“Dapat nand’un ako pero hindi lang tumugma sa schedule ko sa kabila,” he revealed.

When he was told that a third and final installment was in the works, Marvin swore that he would do everything to be part of the film. So when he figured that he could squeeze in the project with his current schedule, he wrote a letter to his management to ask permission. “Buti na lang talagang nasa franchise ako kasi kung hindi, I think it would be hard na i-cast pa ako at mahirap rin sa akin to ask permission. Nakakalungkot naman kung ako pa ‘yung magiging dahilan para hindi makumpleto uli ‘yung cast sa huling installment. Kaya tuwang tuwa ako sa kabila kasi they allowed me.”

In this age of ‘exclusivity,’ most contract artists have found it very difficult to do projects in other networks or productions. That’s why Marvin considered it a big privilege that he was able to do a movie again with Star Cinema. He confessed though that since it has been five years since he left ABS-CBN, the first shooting day of Tanging Ina 3 became a refreshing experience. “Ibang logo ‘yung mga nakikita ko, ha ha ha! Akala ko talaga hindi na ako makakabalik. Nung inaayos pa lang kasi ang schedule, hirap pa akong paniwalaan. Kaya dito sa third hindi na ako masyadong umasa. Kaya hindi ako makapaniwala na heto na at natuloy.”

Does this mean that Marvin is open to becoming a Kapamilya star once again? “Loyal ako, kung saan may trabaho, ha ha ha,” the actor laughingly explained. Marvin added that he will honor his existing contract. “I still have a contract with them until September next year. I’m very happy with them naman so far.”

ABS-CBN Shows Video to Back Copyright Case Against Willing Willie

The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 66 on Friday resumed hearing ABS-CBN’s copyright infringement case against Willie Revillame’s show “Willing Willie” on TV5.

ABS-CBN presented its video evidence at the second day of the hearing of the case it filed against Willie Revillame and TV5 President Ray Espinosa.

The video compares the defunct show "Wowowee" and the new TV5 show "Willing Willy." The two shows were put side by side to show that the "look and feel" of the two shows are the same.

ABS-CBN's witness Alou Almaden narrated before each video clip that was presented. She pointed out similarities of the segments of "Willing Willy" with "Wowowee."

Some of the examples shown were the use of a DJ [disc jockey] at the beginning of the show, similar circular production stage, the introduction of Willie as he enters the stage, and the segment with dancer "Congratulations."

ABS-CBN counsel Atty. Divine Pedron also said the format of the TV show is not an argument.

ABS-CBN is not claiming exclusive rights to the format of a TV variety show, but the network is fighting for the rights to a show which it conceptualized and invested its time and money on, but which was copied by "Willing Willie."

"Ang ipinaglalaban ng ABS-CBN dito ay ang kabuoang programa na pinagbuhusan nila ng panahon, pera at isip, na alam naman po nating lahat na parehong-pareho po ng Willing Willy," he said.

The presentation of the evidence was not finished due to lack of time, and Revillame's lawyers had other commitments.

Almaden was directly examined by ABS-CBN counsel Bienvenido Somera.

Almaden also attested that Revillame pirated 20 key people from "Wowowee" to be part of his new show even while "Wowowee" was still on-going.

Ideas, themes not IPR violations

Revillame's lawyers, on the other hand, said that concepts, ideas and themes are not against intellectual property rights, and therefore, there is no basis for the copyright infringement case.

Revillame and TV5 lawyers also opposed the presentation of the video, saying this was irregular and not based on the Rules of Court.

Based on the Rules of Court, the lawyers said it the master tape or the master copy which should be presented. ABS-CBN presented DVD copies of the show.

Judge Joselito Villarosa allowed the presentation of the DVD subject to the presentation of the master tape or master copy during the hearing on Tuesday (Dec. 7).

Revillame's lawyers also defended their motion to inhibit Judge Villarosa, and presented evidence that he has connections to the CVC Law (Villaraza, Cruz, Marcelo & Angangco) firm, the firm which represents ABS-CBN.

Atty. Joel Bodegon, one of Revillame's lawyers, said the motion to dismiss the copyright infringement case and motion for the judge to inhibit will be resolved by Tuesday next week.

The hearing will continue on Tuesday with the direct examination and testimony of Almaden.

The defense will cross examine the witness on Thursday and Friday next week.

Erich Gonzales is Maria la del Barrio

Isa sa mga ipinakilala sa ABS-CBN Trade Launch noong huwebes na mapapanood ngayong 2011 sa Kapamilya Network ay ang Maria La del Barrio na isang Mexicanovela series noon ni Thalia kasama sina Fernando Colunga at Itatí Cantoral.

Ang Mexicanovela series na ito ay ipinalabas sa RPN 9 noong 1996-1997 at nireplay naman ng GMA7 noong 2002-2003.

At ngayong 2011, ireremake naman ito ng ABS-CBN at ang mapalad na gaganap sa role na María Hernández de la Vega rito ay si Erich Gonzales. Napakaswerte ni Erich dahil sa kanya naibigay ang serye na ito na siguradong papatok dahil sa ganda ng istorya.

Remember Marc Acueza?

Do you still remember Marc Acueza? He's back as Sixto, the sixth child of Ai Ai De las Alas in the comedy movie series Ang Tanging Ina.

Marc's first big break came when he was cast in the Jericho Rosales-Kristine Hermosa soap opera Pangako Sa Yo. He was later included in other shows like Judy Ann Santos- Robin Padilla's Basta Kasama Kita, Berks, Ang Tanging Ina and Qpids.

He looks better now and ABS-CBN should give him new shows and make him stay in the limelight.

Shaina Magdayao Denies Pregnancy Rumors

Young actress Shaina Magdayao vehemently denied reports saying that she is pregnant by her real life sweetheart, actor John Lloyd Cruz.

In an interview during a press conference for her upcoming movie "Shake, Rattle & Roll XII," Magdayao admitted that her tummy gets bigger because she keeps on eating but not because she is pregnant.

"Matakaw ako. Malaki ang tiyan ko pero hindi ako buntis. Mukha ba akong buntis? Hindi ba buong (Disyembre) ay magtatrabaho ako? Tapos January 2 ay may trabaho na ako kaagad," Magdayao said.

"So, hindi po ako buntis. So tama na, Merry Christmas na lang," the actress appealed.

Magdayao has been the center of controversy ever since she and Cruz admitted that they are already officially on.

Recently the two became the talk of the town as a rumor went around, saying the couple got “stuck” together while having sex.

Magdayao said that after all the negative issues, she became stronger. She also said that her relationship with Cruz is better than ever.

"I admit 'yong mga first months na binabato nila kami, definitely ay naka-apekto. Pero ngayon dahil mas pinatibay kami, ako mismo as a person mas nakilala ko ang sarili ko kung ano ang kaya kong gawin at hindi. Parang ngayon ay wala ng epekto. Surprisingly kinaya namin kaya nakakatuwa. Kasi isa siya (Cruz) sa mga tao na hindi bumitaw o hindi nang-iwan sa akin," she added.

When asked about her family's reaction to the negative intrigues thrown at her and Cruz, Magdayao replied: "Tinatawanan na lang ng pamilya ko. Kasi ang importante ay alam na namin kung ano ang totoo, at hindi na ibang tao sa kanila si John Lloyd. Parang kampante sila na walang mangyayaring ganoon. Kumbaga trusted nila ang relationship namin."

Nikki Valdez Reveals the Real Status of Her Marriage

Matagal nang usap-usapan na hiwalay na diumano ang actress-singer na si Nikki Valdez sa kanyang asawa na si Christopher Lina. Ayon pa sa bali-balita, ito raw ang dahilan kung bakit bumalik ng Pilipinas ang ABS-CBN talent at binalikan ang kanyang showbiz career.

Pero nanatiling tahimik si Nikki, hanggang sa ipagtapat niya ang katotohanan sa estado ng kanyang marriage sa presscon ng Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To) noong Miyerkules, December 2, sa Dolphy Theater ng ABS-CBN.

Nagsimula ito nang tanungin siya kung pinauwi siya ng Star Cinema para sa pelikula kung saan ginagampanan niya ang role bilang si Tudis, ang ikalawang anak ni Ina (Ai-Ai delas Alas).

Aniya, "Ngayon ko lang naman masasabi ito sa lahat ng tao.

"My husband and I, we've had our differences...

"Kasi, magpaka-totoo na lang tayo. Kasi, ang dami namang nagtatanong.

"Gusto ko na lang po maging honest. Hindi ko naman na siya itinatago.

"Ang hirap naman kasi sa sitwasyon ko na may anak na kami. I have a two-year and four-month baby and..."

Hindi na natuloy ang gustong sabihin ni Nikki dahil tuluyan na siyang napaluha.

And trying to make light of the situation, dahil nagsisimula pa lang ang prescon para sa movie, hindi napigilan ni Ai-Ai na humirit ng konting patawa sa sitwasyon ni Nikki.

Aniya, "Sige, anak, umiyak ka pa para lalong kumita ang pelikula natin. Sige na anak, itodo mo na ang buong buhay mo, ilabas mo na!"

Pati si Eugene Domingo, na gumaganap bilang best friend ni Ai-Ai sa pelikula, ay nakiramay sa biruan at dinagdagan pa ang kanyang hirit.

Sabi niya, "Doon pa lang sa 'My husband and I...' naka-marka na.

"Nag-abala ka pang mag-contacts, iiyak ka din pala! Brown pa man din 'yan!"

Pati si Nikki ay natawa na lang sa hirit ng dalawang comedienne.

Pagkatapos nito ay ipinagpatuloy ni Nikki ang kanyang pahayag.

"Gusto ko lang pong sabihin na hindi pa kami legally separated.

"Hindi ko na ipagdadamot yung tungkol dito. Hindi ko lang alam yung sasabihin.

"Pero along the way, we've been trying to fix things.

"Pero ayan, sinabi ko na po sa inyong lahat."

Kuwento pa ni Nikki, limang taon din ang pinagsamahan nila ni Christopher bilang boyfriend-girlfriend bago nauwi sa kasal ang kanilang pagsasama.

Dalawang beses silang ikinasal.

Unang ikinasal sina Nikki at Christopher Lina sa Huwes noong February 14, 2007. Nagkaroon sila ng church wedding noong July 7, 2007 dito sa Pilipinas.

Umalis silang mag-asawa that same month para manirahan sa Toronto, Canada, kung saan naka-base si Christopher.

"Okay na okay kami dati," sabi ni Nikki.

"I guess when we're far from each other and suddenly you're together...

"We made the effort dati to see each other.

"Every two months, pupunta siya dito. Tapos, ako naman, pupunta doon [Canada] after two months to bond lang.

"I guess, finally, noong nagsama kami, doon namin nakita na ang dami pang kailangan i-work out.

"Okay kami talaga," ulit niya.

"I mean, yung struggles namin in the beginning were simple ones.

"Siyempre, iba buhay ko dito. Pagdating doon, iba naman.

"Pero here naman, I learned to become independent already. Alam ko yung haharapin kong buhay doon.

"Pangalawa, yung pagsasama namin, hindi namin maano yung chores namin sa bahay.

"He was so used to being independent and doing everything.

"Ako naman, noon lang din naibibigay nang todo-todo yung pagsisilbi ko. Yung paglalaba, yung pagluluto, may mga ganun kaming issues.

"But those are really small.

"But it came to a point when I became pregnant..."

They have a two-year old daughter whom Chris saw last March of this year.

"I make it a point to introduce him to her.

"Kasi, iba yung nakikita at naririnig niya ang father niya. I have to give that to him.

"Hindi naman naging masama yung relationship in the beginning.

"When she sees his father's pictures, alam niya.

"My daughter is a very sweet girl.

"Gusto namin na lumaki siya nang tama kahit wala ang Papa niya physically.

Matagal na raw kinimkim ni Nikki ang tungkol sa problema niya. Pero alam daw ito ng ABS-CBN at ng kanyang pamilya.

Aniya, "I don't want to go into details dahil hindi ko pa alam ang gagawin ko.

"Ngayon lang din ako naglabas ng sinasaloob ko.

"Kasi ang hirap pag-usapan dahil may nagba-bind sa aming dalawa.

"Plus, we really haven't sat down and talked about it na kung ano ba talaga ang gagawin.

"Sabi nga nila, 'mahirap maghiwalay kaysa magpakasal.'

"It takes a lot of preparation. Given na yung you're going to spend.

"Pangalawa, yung emotions mo, it has to be ready—ito ba talaga ang gusto ninyong dalawa?

"Kaya sinabi ko kanina na hindi kami separated legally sa papel.

"Second, hindi pa kami talaga maayos.

"Wala kami sa level ngayon of being civil to each other.

"Estranged lang kami. Hindi lang kami nagsasama."

Hindi matukoy ni Nikki sa simula ng pagpapaliwanag niya kung ano ang tunay na dahilan ng "estrangement" nila ng kanyang asawa.

"I'm not saying na wala akong fault," sabi ni Nikki.

"Sa isang relationship naman—friendship, business or whatever—you continuously work on it. And two-way yun lagi.

"I guess, may pagkukulang ako. Pero I'm not saying na hindi namin sinubukan talaga."

THIRD PARTY? Natanong din kay Nikki kung nagkaroon ng third party sa kanilang pagsasama. Ito kaya ang posibleng dahilan ng hindi nila pagkakaunawaan?

Nag-pause at bumuntung-hininga muna si Nikki bago sumagot.

Aniya, "Meron kaming naging experience. Boyfriend ko pa lang siya. May ganun na nangyari."

So, posible na pati ngayon na kasal na sila?

"Ang hirap kasi na manggaling sa akin. Hindi ko pa siya nakikilala. Pero, yeah, may mga issues na ganun," sagot niya.

Pero nilinaw ni Nikki na hindi pa niya tinutuldukan ang kanilang pagsasama sa rebelasyon niyang ito.

"Ang advice sa amin, ang marriage is you always have to work on it every single time.

"Hindi naman ako nagsasalita ng tapos. Kaya lang, this is the perfect time for me to be true to myself.

"And sa lahat ng nagtatanong tungkol sa amin, ayokong maging unfair.

"Ayoko naman din na sina-sacrifice ko yung emotions ko because I'm trying to hide something

Dagdag niya, "Ngayon ko lang naiintidihan yung dumaan sa lahat ng situation na ganito.

"Akala ko it was so easy to hide it forever. Pero hindi. Kailangan lang maging strong."

Ai-Ai delas Alas Talks About the Tanging Ina Movie

Base sa title ng pelikula, huli na talagang sequel ng highly-successful movie franchise na Ang Tanging Ina ang 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry na Ang Tanging Ina Mo (Last Na 'To!) mula sa Star Cinema.

Ang unang Ang Tanging Ina, na ipinalabas noong 2003, ang nagluklok sa bida nitong si Ai-Ai delas Alas bilang Box-Office Queen noong sumunod na taon.

Sa huling installment na ito ng Ang Tanging Ina, mas focused daw lalo sa pamilya ang kuwento nito.

Special din ito dahil magsisilbi itong reunion ng karamihan sa original cast na gumanap bilang mga anak ni Ai-Ai, lalo na yung mga wala sa sequel nitong Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat (2008).

Ilan sa kanila ay sina Marvin Agustin, Nikki Valdez, Marc Acueza, at Yuki Kadooka.

Hindi naman itinanggi ni Ai-Ai na medyo naging emotional siya pagkatapos mapanood ang trailer ng pelikula kahapon, December 2, sa Dolphy Theater ng ABS-CBN.

"Masaya ako, pero kanina, parang nalungkot ako ng konti nang makita ko na, 'Ay, parang last na 'to.'

"Kasi, di ba, ganoon naman talaga yun? Sa bawat yugto ng buhay natin, may tuldok.

"So, pagkatapos ng tuldok, may comma ulit. So, may bago na namang mangyayari," paliwanag ng Comedy Concert Queen.

Sinabi rin ni Ai-Ai na totoong ni-require ng direktor ng pelikula na si Wenn Deramas na kumpleto ang mga anak niya bago nila gawin ang huling sequel nito.

Close to perfect na sana ang reunion ng lahat, maliban sa isa na hindi nakasama—si Heart Evangelista, na nasa bakuran na ng GMA-7.

Ani Ai-Ai, "Medyo nahirapan. Kasi yung iba po, nasa abroad na talaga sa totoong buhay. Kagaya ni Yuki Kadooka, nasa Japan.

"Tapos, yung iba, nasa kabilang channel na. Pero talagang super effort ang Star Cinema na mabuo kami.

"Fortunately naman, thank you naman kay God, nabuo kami... Minus Heart nga lang.

"Pero hindi na ako sasagot tungkol sa question kay Heart and Edu Manzano, pero lahat naman po, nakasama," sabi ni Ai-Ai.

Pero ano ang honest feeling ni Ai-Ai na hindi nakasama si Heart at kulang ng isa ang mga "anak" niya?

"Nakakahinayang lang, pero ganoon talaga ang buhay," sabi niya.

"Merong mga bagay na hindi natin ma-explain, pero nangyayari. Kailangan nating mag-move on."

Dahil may Last Na 'To! sa title ng movie, mapapanindigan ba nilang last sequel na nga ito kahit pa maging box-office hit ulit ito?

"Una po, talaga yung title is last na," sabi ni Ai-Ai.

"Kasi sabi ko, kapag hindi ito last, mawawala ang kredibilidad natin. Kaya dapat po, last na talaga ito.

"At saka, mas maganda po ang grand exit ng isang bagay na nasa itaas siya kesa yung walang-wala nang nanonood sa atin.

"So, na-decide po namin na habang mainit pa ang Tanging Ina, tapusin na."

Magaganda ang entries sa MMFF this year. Mas may pressure bang nararamdaman si Ai-Ai sa magiging labanan ng mga pelikula sa takilya?

"Basta ang sa akin, sabi nga ni Direk [Wenn], basta nagawa namin ang best namin at nagawa namin lahat yun, at sa tingin namin matutuwa ang buong publiko, okay na yun. Hindi na ako napi-pressure.

"At saka, unang-una, idol ko si Bossing. At yung dalawang yun, hari ng pelikula. So, kung second man kami, okay lang. Sila naman."

Ang tinutukoy ni Ai-Ai ay sina Vic Sotto at Senator Bong Revilla, na nagsanib-puwersa sa pelikulang Si Agimat at Si Enteng Kabisote.

Dagdag ng comedienne, "Hindi ako papayag kung hindi hari, pero sila yun. So, bonggang-bongga na yun. Okay lang.

"Hindi na ako mapi-pressure kasi, sabi ko, yung Tanging Ina 1, doon ko natutunan yung trust God with all your heart.

"Yung Tanging Ina 1 na launching ko, nasabi ko kay God, 'God, sana po huwag umulan. Sana po, marami ang manood ng Tanging Ina, matagal ko po itong hinintay.'

"Kinabukasan, signal No. 3! Pero, topgrosser ang Tanging Ina.

"So, hanggang ngayon, nandoon pa rin sa puso ko, trust God. Kung ano ang gusto Niya, wala tayong magagawa."

Angelica Panganiban Finally Meets Her Long-Lost Father

Actress Angelica Panganiban, 24, finally found and met her long-lost father. Panganiban was separated from her father when she was born. She flew to Los Angeles by herself on November 21 to see him, after finding out his name and personal details.

Their reunion was a surreal experience, like a scene from a movie, Panganiban said when she returned to Manila yesterday. She said they look alike, down to their feet. She also said she does not hold a grudge against her father, who has a family in the US. "Medyo personal 'yong reason kung bakit kami nagkahiwalay, kung bakit hindi niya ako hinanap, kung bakit hindi ko alam na siya ang daddy ko. Ang importante, nag end up ng maganda ang lahat." (The reason why we were separated until recently is personal. What's important is that everything turned out well.")

Asked about her feelings towards her mother, though, Panganiban declined to comment. She merely said, "It's a different side of the issue."

Jake Cuenca Talks About His Confrontation With Jason Abalos

While Jake Cuenca admitted that he was the one at fault in the confrontation that happened between Jason Abalos and himself at a bar in Davao a couple of weeks ago, he refused to explain the reason of the rift. “Ang importante tapos na ‘yon. Gaya ng sinabi ko sa statement ko medyo naging emotional ako sa gabing iyon. Medyo naging mataas ang mga emosyon nang gabing ‘yon pero ang importante natapos na. I was confrontational I apologized. I take full responsibility for it and again ‘yun nga I apologized to Jason Abalos because I was confrontational.” Jake also thanked Coco Martin who mediated in the fight and prevented the clash from getting worse. “Kung ‘di dahil din kay Coco baka hindi naayos ‘yung gabing ‘yun ng problema.”

However, he refused to reveal what prompted him to charge at Jason. “Ayoko nang idetalye. Usapang lalaki ‘yun, eh. Sa akin kung anong pinag-usapan namin sa aming dalawa na lang ‘yon. Ang importante naayos namin. Ang importante maayos kami,” Jake went on.

The Fil-Spanish actor denied claims that the reason of their argument is because of a non-showbiz girl. “Actually nabalitaan ko ‘yon. Sa Twitter ata lumabas ‘yon. There were no girls involved that night. It’s all boys. It was me, Jason, Coco a few other people. It was an all-boys thing kaya medyo naging mataas ang emosyon dahil lalaki sa lalaki ang usapan, eh.”

Jake admitted that he regretted his actions the next day. “And again I just accept the responsibilities [of my actions] and I deeply apologize to Jason for being confrontational, but again siyempre minsan hindi maiwasan ang ganitong sitwasyon, lalaki sa lalaki nga.”

Jake was also asked about the reaction of his rumored girlfriend, Melissa Ricks, about the incident. “Siyempre nag-alala siya kasi kaibigan din niya si Jason, siyempre kaibigan din niya ako. I told her naman there’s nothing to worry about; I tried to do my part,” he related.

Though Jake received compliments for owning up to his mistake, he clarified that he was not after the praises but he only did the right thing. “I’m 22 years old, hindi na ako bata. I accept results of my actions and I should be mature enough to know what the right thing to do.”

When asked about what lesson he has learned from the incident, Jake replied, “I think we should all act our age. Masarap maging bata pero sa tamang sitwasyon kailangan matured tayo. There’s nothing wrong having fun but as long as responsable ka at matalino ka sa ginagawa mo at least be aware of our actions.”

Heart Evangelista Explains Why She's Not in the Last Tanging Ina Movie

In an interview, Heart Evangelista claimed that she really tried her best to be part of the movie Ang Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat: Last Na ‘To. It was supposed to be a big reunion for Ai-Ai de las Alas’s onscreen brood of twelve and Heart was the only one who didn’t make it. Rumor has it that she was removed from the cast after failing to show up for the first shooting day. “Yes, actually I called. I was supposed to [go], mahahabol pa namin. But Roxy (Liquigan, Star Cinema executive) and I had a talk. I was leaving for Bellaroca Island Resort in Marinduque (for the wedding of the sister of her boyfriend Daniel Matsunaga) and also I had to start working on a soap so yung last shooting day nila, hindi ako aabot. But I’ve tried, so yun,” said Heart who showed up at the launch of Caffe Ti Amo at Greenbelt 5 last December 1.

Heart also clarified that it wasn’t as if she turned down the offer from the get go. “Not me. Maybe there was a problem with the shooting schedule or something. But I was such a fan of the movie. I tried to be here a day earlier for the shoot. So from my end, wala naman akong nakitang pagkukulang. Nagkaroon lang siguro ng [miscommunication] or something.” As a matter of fact, she expressed her desire to support the movie should Star Cinema invite her to the premiere night. “If they invite me, I will go.”

When asked if she misses her former Ang Tanging Ina family, Heart stressed that she would always treasure the good times they had back when she was still a Kapamilya star. “I miss everybody from ABS-CBN. I grew up there and that was like my old university. So of course I was sad when I didn’t make it in the movie. Pero I guess there’s a reason for everything,” she stated.

On Spotlight: Jessy Mendiola of Sabel

Young star Jessy Mendiola’s time to shine as an actress has finally come as she was given her first lead role in ABS-CBN's upcoming TV series, "Sabel."

In an interview during a press conference for “Sabel,” Mendiola shared her excitement over her first major project.

“Para akong lumulutang ngayon. Sobrang pasasalamat ko sa management na pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa ganitong kalaking project. Sobrang saya ko lang. Siyempre sobrang nerbiyos ko. Sana ay magustuhan lang ng mga tao," Mendiola said.

Mendiola, who was first noticed in the defunct hit TV series "Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo" as the love interest of Coco Martin, will reprise the role that launched Snooky Serna's career as an actress in the 1981 Regal classic film “Bata Pa Si Sabel.”

The young actress who was launched as a member of Star Magic Batch 4 a few years ago, shared that “the wait was worth it” now that the Kapamilya network entrusted her with a role that she had never done before.

Mendiola’s acting skills were also noticed in "Your Song Presents: Boystown” where she shared the screen with the Gigger Boys. She also appeared on "Your Song Presents: Gimik 2010.”

In “Sabel,” Mendiola will be teamed up with young actors AJ Perez and Joseph Marco.

Also part of the series are formidable stars like Rita Avila, Raymund Bagatsing, Daria Ramirez, Tommy Abuel, Ron Morales and Glydel Mercado.

Mendiola’s “Sabel” is set to grace the Primetime Bida block of ABS-CBN starting on Monday (December 6).

Peligro In Harm's Way: Donaire Vs. Sidorenko

Now that his fight has been shoved as the main event of the “In Harm's Way” fight card, Filipino-American boxer Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire will make sure that spectators will have fun watching his bout against former world champion Wladimir Sidorenko of Ukraine on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

The Donaire-Sidorenko fight became the main header of the fight card after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. pulled out because of high fever.

Chavez Jr., the son of legendary Mexican boxer and namesake Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., was supposed to fight US –based Pawel Wolak.

“I really plan to be as risky as I can and to entertain everyone and just have fun with it,” said Donaire, currently the No. 5 pound-for-pound boxer in the world based on the Ring Magazine’s list.

Donaire, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) flyweight champion, needs to win against Sirodenko to maintain a bantamweight title shot against Mexican champion Fernando Montiel in February next year.

Sidorenko, meanwhile, is the former World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight champion.

He expects a hard fight in Donaire, which is why he sparred with the Filipino’s bitter rival, WBA and World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight champion Vic Darchinyan.

“I don't want to describe what I'm going to do in the ring but I can promise you the fight is going to be tough,” Sidorenko said through a translator.

Donaire, however, said the Ukrainian will have a tough time figuring him out.

“He's sparring a wrong fight, that's all I can say. Maybe because they're expecting me to fight lefty. That’s fine. That's one thing they have to fight now. That's why I brought in the fight last time as a left hander. They have to understand I have more than one thing and there's so many ways to figure me out,” said the Filipino-American.

His trainer, Robert Garcia, said despite the late start to training camp, the Filipino Flash is well ready for the ring.

Garcia joined Donaire just 2 weeks ago after heading Antonio Margarito’s corner in the Mexican’s fight against Manny Pacquiao.

“He's mentally and physically ready. He's in tremendous shape. He sparred 12 rounds like five or six times he did them without any trouble, he didn't get tired. Beautiful boxing, I think,” said the Mexican trainer.
