"Maguindanao Masaker: Pulitika, Media, Hustisya" on Sunday's Best

The Maguindanao Massacre: A story about politics, media, and justice on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best.

It has been almost a year since the world was rocked by news of a bloody massacre in the small town of Ampatuan in Maguindanao. The “Maguindanao Massacre,” the worst election-related crime incident in the Philippines, left 57 people dead, including 34 journalists.

An anonymous Boto Patroller sent to “Boto Mo, iPatrol Mo: Ako ang Simula” the first picture from the crime scene. The picture confirmed the incident and sparked a media frenzy that foiled an attempted cover-up by the perpetrators, who tried to bury all traces of the crime.

Unfortunately, to this day, no one has been convicted yet. While the involved personalities fight it out in court, ABS-CBN senior correspondent Jorge Cariño went back to Maguindanao to uncover the true story behind the massacre, as seen through four different points of view.

For the Mangudadatus, whose family members were part of the ambushed convoy, the problem stemmed from their political rivalry with the Ampatuans. The latter were said to be hungry for power and would not allow another clan to rule the province.

For the media, this is a case wherein the reporters of the news the news themselves. The Maguindanao Massacre is said to be the deadliest single attack against journalists in the world.

From the eyes of the Ampatuan family, however, their family is being accused for a crime they did not commit. The authorities, meanwhile, are not taking sides. Instead, they are focusing on the gathered evidence in order to find out the truth and deliver justice to the victims.

Look back at Maguindanao Massacre from four different vantage points in “Maguindanao Masaker: Pulitika. Media. Hustisya” with Jorge Cariño this Sunday (Nov 14) on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best after “Star Power” on ABS-CBN.

Third World Happy Was Tailor-Made for Sam Milby!

Sam Milby was one of the guests who took part in the opening ceremony of the 6th Cinema One Originals filmfest that took place last night, November 10, at the Grand Atrium of Shangri-La Mall in Mandaluyong City.

The matinee idol is the lead star of the indie film Third World Happy, which is scheduled to have its premiere gala tonight, November 11, also at Shangri-La Mall. In the film, Sam is cast as a painter named Wesley who has yet to move on from the death of his parents.

He says of this film, "Third World Happy is all conversational and it's about dealing with your past and following your dreams.

"Very touched nga ako kasi sabi ng writer-director [EJ Salcedo] na habang sinusulat niya ang movie na ito, ako lang ang naiisip niya for the role."

This is Sam's second indie film after starring in the action-suspense Cul De Sac (2008).

Aside from Third World Happy and Ishmael, the other finalists of the Cinema One Originals filmfest are Tsardyer, Dagim, Astro Mayabang, Layang Bilanggo, and Ang Damgo ni Eleuteria.

These films are currently being shown at Shangri-La Mall until November 16.

Other celebrities who graced the event last night were Ishmael stars Mark Gil, Ronnie Lazaro, Pen Medina, and newcomer Ria Garcia; John "Sweet" Lapus and Arron Villaflor of Astro Mayabang; Martin del Rosario of the horror flick Dagim.

Mon Confiado of Tsardyer spoke in behalf of Direk Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez because he was still finishing the film, which is scheduled to have its premiere this Friday, November 12.

After Cinema One Originals director for programming Ronald Arguelles gave the opening toast, guests then proceeded to the Premiere Theater to watch the gala screening of Ishmael.

Veteran actors Pen Medina and Joel Torre were also spotted at the premiere gala of the film Ishmael last night.

Even though Cherie Gil was not a cast member of any of Cinema One entry, she graced the occasion to support her brother Mark Gil.

Written and directed by Richard Somes, Ishmael is a gruesome action flick about a religious cult leader (played by Mark Gil) whose dominion over a town ends because of the killings perpetrated by ex-convict Ishmael (Ronnie Lazaro).

Angel Locsin Praises Niña Dolino

“Imortal” lead star Angel Locsin lauded co-actress Niña Dolino for her exemplary portrayal of Taong Lobo heiress Clarisse Zaragosa.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Locsin said there is no other artist who could portray such a daring and strong role except Dolino.

Sabi niya, 'Hindi pa, hindi pa,'“ said Locsin.

Locsin also revealed her co-star’s dedication to her work and her professionalism which she admires most about Dolino.

The Philippines’ sexiest also divulged that she and Dolino have a good friendship in and outside the set after realizing that they share the same interests.

Pagtapos mag-roll ng camera ay nagta-transform,” she said.

Locsin also believes that Dolino's character in "Imortal" is a big break for her.

Aga Muhlach Gears for 3 Films and a TV Series

Actor Aga Muhlach shared his excitement over seeing himself in a movie again.

Ibig kong sabihin, kasi supposed to be isang pelilkula sa isang taon. Eh nagkataon nabitin ang isang pelikula ko. Basta next year lalabas ang lahat ng pelikula ko," Muhlach said during the kick-off of Jollibee's Ma-Aga ang Pasko on Thursday.

The actor said that his movie with Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez was supposed to be shown this year but it was postponed.

Muhlach is also doing a film with "Imortal" star Angel Locsin, whom he described as someone who's so easy to work with and very energetic.

"Lahat naman ng hinahanda ko ay for next year, pati 'yong sa amin ni Regine. Hindi pa namin natatapos 'yong kay Regine.

"Actually unang nag-start 'yon. Unfortunately, medyo nagkabitin-bitin. Basta. So, pasensiya na talaga, but next year lalabas talaga 'yan," the actor said.

Muhlach said that after the showing of his two movies next year, he is also set to shoot a film with his former leading lady, Tony award-winner Lea Salonga.

"Next year naman namin gagawin 'yon. Ang lalabas next year ay 'yong sa amin ni Angel and Regine. Supposed to be 'yong sa amin ni Regine ay lalabas this year. So next year na lalabas 'yon. But 'yong sa amin ni Lea, we will film it next year so I think that will be shown 2012 pa 'yon. Ang layo ng sched," he said.

Muhlach also bared that he might do his first television series next year.

'Yong teleserye ay pinag-uusapan pa namin. I’m just looking for the right material," he said.

Kris Aquino Praises Alessandra de Rossi on Dalaw

“Talagang ang feeling ko, ‘My God!’ but then, kinausap ko si direk (Dondon Santos), kasi this week, it’s straight, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. So, they were telling me na they’ll try daw na midnight (matatapos) ‘yung first two (days), tapos, the next two, pamorningan,” simula ni Kris.

“Tinanong ko siya kung how old is she when she started in showbiz. Sabi niya, ‘Naku, I was 12.’ But ang nakakabilib sa kanya, she was telling me na may house siya ngayon na nabili na sa Tierra Purra pero six more years daw to pay. But ang laki ng property, parang 1,600 square meters. Kasi it was really a good price. Kasi choosy raw siya sa ginagawa niyang roles and all. Tapos sinabi niya na, ‘Alam mo ba, first time ko ‘to sa Star Cinema.’

Ang vacation niya is until January 10. So, makakaalis kami with the kids because I promise them na bibiyahe kami. Dito Christmas, New Year sa abroad. Pero sinabi ko sa kanila kung pupunta tayo, it has to be after January 1 or else, makikipagsisikan lang tayo and hindi lang tayo mage-enjoy. Sinabi ko sa ate ko and sinabi niya, ‘You know I would say na go to Tokyo Disney lang kaya lang hindi ninyo ma-enjoy ang Disney Sea kasi sobrang ginaw. Sabi ko, ‘I don’t know na kung ano ang gagawin namin at kung saan kami pupunta.’”

Shaina Magdayao's Soaring Career and Lovelife!

The intrigues surrounding Shaina Magdayao’s relationship with John Lloyd Cruz has certainly worked to her advantage since it got people curious to see more of her through her daytime soap Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna. Shaina is equally determined to prove her worth though, especially now that she’s becoming an in-demand actress. As it is, she’s also busy shooting Ang Tanging Ina Mo Rin, Huli na ‘To and Shake, Rattle and Roll which are both official entries to the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival. “I can say that I am really blessed. Siyempre ‘di natin matatanggal yung pagod. But at the end of the day, worth it din lahat ng pagod at stress kasi ang importante madaming trabaho ngayong Pasko,” she cheerfully stated.

Push.com.ph caught up with her on the set of Ang Tanging Ina Mo Rin at Star City where she got to play and work at the same time. “Very light kasi ito compared with Alyna kaya mas madali kahit papaano. In a way nakakalungkot nga isipin na last na ito kasi parang naging pamilya na kami e. Kung paano kami on cam, mas grabe yung kulitan at kwentuhan off cam.

Although Heart Evangelista couldn’t be part of the movie, Shaina said that she still had fun working with Nikki Valdez and Marvin Agustin again. “Wala sila nung part two pero ngayon they made sure na kasama sila.

Shaina further shared that she will be working until December 24 for the Metro Manila Film Festival parade. But she said that she will definitely spend Christmas day with her loved ones including boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz.

James Reid Waits for His Big Break!

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010 Big Winner James Reid said that he will patiently wait for his showbiz break, adding that while the opportunity has not arrived yet, he will continue improving himself. “I’m still taking up workshops. I don’t want to have a movie—for example—right now because I know I’m not ready for it. This is why I’m still taking acting workshops, I’m taking singing lessons, I’m learning to play the guitar,” the Fil-Australian lad explained.

He also denied being envious of his batch mates who have started making names for themselves in the industry. For instance, Korean former housemate Ryan Bang now has his own show entitled 3ow powhz! on Studio 23, is a guest judge on Showtime, and is a frequent Banana Split guest. American housemate Bret Jackson had a three-month long hosting stint on MYX, has launched his digital single, and is busy with guest appearances on shows like ASAP. James justified that the two deserve to have their break and they stood out because they are good with what they do best; Ryan is good in comedy while Bret’s thing is music and hosting.

The PBB Big Winner said that he is serious with his workshops and lessons. “I just want to have more experience in hosting, singing, and acting because [I] can’t say that at the moment, acting is what I want to do. I haven’t tried it before but a show is coming up soon [and] that would be my first experience,” he said but did not divulge what the upcoming show was.

Asked in which genre he would like to stand out, James replied, “I’m getting better at things, I’d like to be recognized as a musician, I’m getting better playing the guitar.” He said that he looks up to Yeng Constantino and described her as a great performer. “[She’s] young, she’s talented, she’s a great singer, she plays the guitar, she’s an entertainer.”

Aside from the workshops and trainings, James also added that he is going to take up Tagalog lessons and admitted that it is one of his biggest shortcomings. “I understand but it’s hard to speak it. For me it’s difficult because my accent is funny,” he said smiling. Nevertheless, the good-looking former housemate said that he is determined not only to understand but to speak Tagalog soon.

Ces Oreña-Drilon: C'est La Vie

“One of my classmates said that I was adventurous to the point of being reckless,” says broadcast journalist Ces Oreña-Drilon. “I didn’t know what he meant by that then,” but now she knows only too well how he was so right.

I wasn’t going to scream. I wasn’t going to beg. Hindi talaga,” says veteran ABS-CBN senior correspondent Ces Oreña-Drilon about her abduction by the Abu Sayyaf in Maimbung, Sulu. One of her companions, cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion, came to the point of begging for his life when their abductors tied his neck and arms. Death and how painful it would be swirled in Ces’ thoughts, yet she was adamant that she would not beg. “I thought if I had to beg for my life, it would be useless because just because you beg, you think they’ll let you go? If they really intended to kill you, you think they’ll spare your life?

“(So instead) I just prayed to God that He give me the grace and the peace to accept my fate. I prayed to be ready to die.” And finding solace in the thought that all her sons – Gian (19), Mikhail (21), Ory (23) and Andre (16) – were all grown, capable men, she was willing to let go.

But thankfully, it never came to that point for this I Survived host and anchor of ABS-CBN’s Bandila and ANC’s The Rundown as she and her companions were released after 10 days. Since the traumatic incident, Ces says that she and her team have only grown closer and stronger. In fact, they recently celebrated their “second anniversary” with a dinner with their family and wives. “I could never repay them enough,” she says humbly.

Looking back, despite the terrifying circumstances at the camp they also had funny memories to share. Ces recalls an incident when the armed men made them lie down on the ground. “There were so many ants… and we were afraid that they would get into our ears so sinira namin yung panty liners na nasa bag ko and used these to cover our ears. So I was blaming them because they used up all my panty liners,” she chuckles.

Right after their release, she remembers that she had never felt better than after that first shower. “For me, I discovered that taking a bath does wonders to your spirit. It lifts your spirits.” But unfortunately, she adds, it was also a gross experience. “I took a shower in the bathroom of the mayor and it was so dirty. Mas malinis pa nga yung batis (The creek was cleaner). I was thinking ‘Did the cat die here,’” she laughs. Desperate for a shower, but not desperate enough to step on the filthy floor, she took to taking a bath in the balde (pail).

Ces has retained much of her humor despite such traumatizing ordeals. But her ability to bounce back should not only be credited to the weeks of therapy but maybe also to her father who raised her to withstand adversity.

Taking Root

Ces, the eldest in a brood of four, was born in Baguio to a conservative and disciplined household. Her grandfather Arsenio Espiritu was a news junkie who would read the newspaper back to front; her mother Lourdes Oreña was an educator but full-time housewife; while her father Bernabe Oreña was a strict military man who brought up his four children to become very competitive. Her father was like a broken record, she remembers, who’d lecture them every morning about the importance of education and excelling. On the way to school, he would always drill them about math problems. Ces recalls, “Pag may ipapakilala kami na kaibigan, he wouldn’t ask kung mabait ba yan or what. (When we would introduce our friends, he wouldn’t ask if he was a good person.) He’d ask if you were better than that friend. ‘Mas magaling ka ba dyan?’ (Are you a better person than him?)”

This ingrained competitiveness pushed each of the Oreña siblings to succeed, especially Ces who had to live up to the expectations of being the eldest. “At times I thought it was unfair that I had to always be a model for my brother and two sisters. I made it known (that when I had my own kids) I would not do that. But I find myself saying the same things to my eldest son.”

As her father was an important figure in her becoming the strong, determined woman she is today, he was also pivotal in her career. It was her father who suggested that she leave her first job in public relations and try her hand in network TV. And through her father’s connections, Ces landed a job on the government-run Maharlika Broadcasting System (later renamed People’s Television 4) in 1985. “He probably knew my potential and knew I could do better on TV. I could do more than PR.”

Learning the Ropes

“When I was a trainee (on Channel 4), I really, really liked it. I thought every day was different. It was exciting.” As trainee, she was made to tail a reporter and was made to write the story as if she was going to report it. “I remember I was so overwhelmed by the information, I did not know what to read, what to watch, what to look for… but then eventually I got the hang of it.” Her first feature story was a piece on the New Bilibid Prisons and their livelihood projects. But when it was aired, it was voiced by another trainee, Angelique Lazo. “I felt so bad. But then she had a better reading voice.”

As the youngest reporter on the network, Ces’ first assignment was to cover the opposition. “During that time Channel 4 was the Marcos propaganda machine. But it was no big thing (to be assigned to cover the opposition) because it’s not going to be aired and so I’d be looked at with suspicion by the opposition. Akala nila spy yata ako (They probably thought I was a spy). That was funny.”

In 1989, after her scoop on the capture of then Army renegade Col. Gregorio Honasan, she got invited by ABS-CBN to join the network. Since then, Ces has been sneaking past barricades, dodging men in uniform and sweet talking ushers to let her get a scoop. Today, Ces has become a household name.

She even found herself at times dodging arrests, like during the Peninsula Manila siege in 2007. “They were going to put handcuffs on us. (Some news people said) it would have been a statement if they put handcuffs on me but I said I didn’t want a picture of me (cuffed) for the rest of my life and in history… so I really resisted with all my might.” But she earned great marks for her coverage as their live feed was used and aired on BBC and CNN.

Almost Doesn’t Count

“I never say die. Never say no. You have to try. I’m very persistent,” Ces replies when asked why she stands out among other journalists. “There was a certain time that I wanted to give up (being a reporter) because it was so demanding physically. My kids were just growing up. As a reporter, I’d leave early. When I would leave the house, I wouldn’t even have time to comb my hair. When I got home (my children) would be asleep,” she reveals, but it was the love for the job that had made her stay for over 20 years.

“Some people find it surprising that I’m still here. Nasa isip nila may pangalan ka na tapos makikipag-agawan ka pa sa ibang reporters who are half my age (People think I already have a name yet there I am competing with the other reporters). Some newsmakers have told me to give way to the new ones. But I like being out on the field. I want to do it. I’m a full time reporter and I really (see) myself growing old in journalism,” she laughs.

Political Callings

Ces insists that she has never turned down an assignment given to her… except may be one. She recently turned down an assignment to cover President Noynoy Aquino’s first 100 days in office and the interim between his having been elected and the inauguration, because of her boyfriend, former ANC anchor Ricky Carandang’s appointment in the administration’s communications department.

She had to refuse the assignment because “whatever story I come out with, it may be given color (even) when there isn’t. Even if I do my darnedest best and be fair, there will be color. People will think that I got a scoop because of (Ricky).

“I’m not really open to (going into politics),” she reveals. “The perception that people have is that you just used your profession and you had another agenda. You don’t have to be in politics to do good in the country. In media, there’s nation building also. Journalism is a means to help… it’s your job to make people in power accountable.” But she respects her boyfriend’s decision and says that it’s an opportunity well-suited for him. “Well, it’s also an opportunity to help. He’s always been enamored with politics but (maybe) it’s not his end goal. And it’s better early enough (that he joined) so that he can still come back,” she adds in jest.

The Age of Maturity

Having dodged death numerous times and having survived tumultuous ordeals unscathed, has time toned her down as a journalist? She answers with a smile and a resounding “NO.”

Actually, she developed a condition that is particular to journalists who have covered war and conflict — a sense of fearlessness and invincibility. “(After facing death in the face and surviving it), you think you’re invincible. You feel you could do anything. (But) you’re not.”

Ces often humbles her thoughts by remembering what is really important, “You have to think of the impact of what you’re doing on the people you love. And why it’s not just about you. I’m really, really, super lucky. So many people wished me well. So many people who don’t know me prayed for me,” she explains, so now she makes the time to be with friends and family. “There’s that conscious effort, unlike before when you’d say that ‘Yeah, they’ll understand’.”

But even for a feisty, fearless reporter like Ces Oreña-Drilon, at the end of the day, “There’s no story worth dying for.”

At times when she closes her eyes, flashes of the abduction and the siege: the armed men and camouflage uniforms flood her mind. But she wakes up more determined and excited for the day ahead that has yet to prove itself more adventurous than the previous. Ces’ spirit cannot be tamed. Fierce in her pursuit, loyal to her story and true to her being, Ces may have broken many rules but she has nothing to regret.

Eliza Pineda Plays Young Maja Salvador in Thelma

Young actress Eliza Pineda is excited to portray her role as the younger sister of Maja Salvador in director Paul Soriano’s second indie film Thelma. It’s about a young competitive runner and her relationships with the people around her. But more importantly, Thelma is a story of dreams, determination and making the right decisions. Eliza happily shared how her role is important to the story.

Matagal-tagal na rin si Eliza sa showbiz, she started working and became very active on the silver screen. “Sa pelikula po, ‘yung first movie ko po extra-extra lang ako like ‘yung Got To Believe. Mga five years old po ako noon. ‘Tsaka po Till There Was You. Pagkatapos noon ‘yung I Do bilang kapatid ni Enchong Dee.”

Totoo ba? “Ha? Hindi po. Naging crush ko lang po siya.” She denies na nagkaroon sila ng mutual understanding. “M.U.-M.U.? Tapos nagkakasama kami sa mga show.

Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes Considered Youth Role Models!

With their teleserye-like life stories which honed their wonderful personalities and characters, the modern lead stars of “Mara Clara”, Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes, are considered by the youth as role models.

On Twitter, a famous social networking and microblogging website, many Kapamilya viewers, mostly the youth, expressed their strong liking for Kathryn and Julia. Tweets such as “#Mara ur so humble, #Clara ambaet mo,” “ANG SUPER GANDA NG #MARA CLARA! For the win. Ang bait pareho ni Mara at ni Clara,” and “Napanood ko yung The Buzz kung san nag-guest si #Mara Clara, nakakaiyak kwento ng buhay nila,” are all over the said site.

In real life, Kathryn finances the education of the child of one their family’s employee. Julia on the other hand continues to stay strong for her hearing and speech impaired mother. Such real scenarios make these two young ladies as young people to look up to.

“Kaya sa mga eksena nila, madrama man o hindi, hindi sila hirap kasi may pinaghuhugutan sila galing sa real experiences nila,” Jerome Pobocan shared, one of the directors of the high-rating series.

On the other hand, “Mara Clara” continues to soar high as it gains supremacy over last Tuesday’s (November 9) programming. Owning the first spot of the top 20 programs nationwide according to Kantar Media, “Mara Clara” earned a score of 28% beating GMA 7’s “Grazilda” which only garnered a national rating of 18.4%.

Don’t miss the exciting episodes of “Emil Cruz Jr.’s Mara Clara” and witness how Kathryn and Julia reprise the characters viewers once loved, weeknights after “Noah” on ABS-CBN.

Dulce Enjoys Working on Juanita Banana

After her role in the musical film Emir, singer-actress Dulce takes on a different kind of challenge with the role of Dona Digna Buenaventura in the TV adaptation of the 1968 movie Juanita Banana. In the series, Dulce’s character plays a nouveau riche (newly rich) woman who seeks to make life hard for Juanita, played by newcomer Bianca Manalo. “Ang saya lang nung role. Nung una, yung fear ko is kung kontrabidakasi for a long time pinag-iingatan ko na kilala ako as a seryosong singer tapos ngayon magiging kontrabida. Pero it turns out naman pala na hindi siya yung hardcore na kontrabida. There is a reason behind it kung bakit siya nagiging ganun umarte. May story. Kung titingnan mo, nakakaawa nga sya kasi parang she’s just trying to be a kontrabida when hindi naman talaga ganoon. So it will be refreshing kasi malalaman nila na puwede pala ako maging funny,” she explained during the Juanita Banana thanksgiving lunch held last November 8 at the ABS-CBN compound.

The veteran singer and stage actress admitted that she was surprised to be offered a role in the hit afternoon series. First, I decided to accept it depending on whether my husband approves of it. Kasi as a Christian, in the divine order of things, you need the approval of your husband. ‘Pag okay yung husband mo, wala kang struggle. I’m a born again Christian. After 32 years in the recording business since I started in 1978, dati takot ako magkaroon ng ganito so masyang-masaya ako ngayon na I’m part of this,” she explained.

Dulce admitted that she also enjoys working with her other Juanita Banana co-stars like Bianca, Katya Santos, Rey “PJ” Abellana, Lito Pimentel, Matt Evans, and Rodjun Cruz. “Lahat sila mababait. Yung mga bata mababait din eh. Palibhasa comedy ito kaya walang naging mabigat. Masaya lahat,” she said.

Dulce also shared that even if she gets typecast as a kontrabida, she has no reservations playing those kinds of roles. “Hindi ako natatakot maging kontrabida. Siguro in every role, like kung ano man ang susunod na mabibigay, bibigyan mo rin sya ng ibang flavor. Sa bawat ibang character, pumapasok ka dun. So yung character na ginagampanan mo, yun talaga yung nakikita ng tao,” she said.

The singer also had something to say about the fact that she has been in the business for 32 years now. “Hindi ko na malaman paano kayo pasasalamatan. I’ve been here since 1978, since I was 16 years old and parang nakikita ko pa rin sila, yung fans ko, nandiyan sila. Lalo na yung mga members of the press and I’m very thankful kasi through the years, hindi nawala yung suporta nila. Hindi nawala yung respeto nila sa ‘yo and I believe na even ngayon na gumagawa ako ng kontrabida roles, they’re intelligent enough to know that I’m playing a role. And nandun pa rin yung respeto sa ‘yo,” she said.

As a born again Christian, Dulce shared the secret to her success, “You know what, lagi nga ‘pag tinatanong nila ako ng ganyan, I always say God is my secret. God is no secret. When God is in you, you have the Holy Spirit in your heart, He is alive. Because God is always good. We’re here to thank Him for all the blessings and yung wala kang kabigatan sa buhay. Because I have given it up already. Hindi naman sa sinasabing wala akong naging problema but when you have the Lord in you, when you have Christ you have everything. So mabuti na lang na what you have now, yun ang ishi-share mo, which is to radiate the love of God,” she said.

Aga Muhlach on Jollibee's Maaga ang Pasko!

Almost 40 days before Christmas, Aga Muhlach is busy again calling on all Filipinos to share and give toys and books to less fortunate children for the coming Christmas via fast-food giant Jollibee's "Ma-Aga Ang Pasko" campaign.

The campaign that started in 1994 is now on its 16th year still true to its mission to spread the joy of sharing to less fortunate kids.

"Ma-Aga ang Pasko" with Muhlach as its partner/spokesman is now the country's longest running toy and book collection drive.

With the help of Jolly Toy Scouts (people helping in collecting) as well as partner companies and schools, books and toys are being collected, sorted, cleaned and then distributed to kids who are poor.

For the past 15 years, the campaign already collected and distributed 1.5 million toys.

Like last year, Jollibee, through "Ma-Aga ang Pasko", will try its best to make the coming Christmas more happy and meaningful for children by matching the number of collected toys and books.

Aside from the collection, part of the proceeds from sales of limited-edition Jollibee and Jollifriends dolls will also be donated to the campaign.

The campaign also partnered with the Department of Education, with the help of Jollibee Foundation, for the construction of more classrooms to provide the less fortunate children a conducive place of learning.

ABS-CBN Posts PhP2.9-Billion Profit in First Nine Months of 2010

"[It] takes advantage of prevailing low interest rates and the Company's stronger financial performance in recent years to lower its cost of debt and fund its expansion requirements. Consequently, ABS-CBN's effective interest cost on all its interest-bearing debt will go down by about two percentage points, from which the Company expects to generate savings in annual interest expenses of over P90 million. Apart from the savings that will be generated, the new loan agreement also incorporates more relaxed covenants," paliwanag ni Valdueza.
