A Warm Welcome to Noli and Korina

New ABS-CBN News Head on TV Patrol Changes

"This plan has been in the pipeline even before I got here," sagot ni Reyes.

"Anything naman that affects your career is surprising no matter how the company breaks it to you. I think they had an idea before, but of course, not that long ago.

"Pero I was the one who first talked to her. She was very calm...

"It's never easy to say to someone that you're being replaced by this person and we're making these changes. You know this is how I put it to her, 'ABS-CBN valued you, continues to value you, but we need your support now to make this work also.'

"It was a corporate decision. It's something that we think would help strengthen the show."

It's just a matter of finding the strengths of all our talents and finding the right places for them, ganun lang naman po 'yon.

"I was very decent with her and maganda naman ang aming usapan, pati po kay Julius din."

"Medyo confidential lang 'yong iba naming plano and we don't want to reveal our plans siyempre, pero I told her [Karen] that we wanted originally to put her in Bandila para naman lumakas din ang aming late night, sila ni Julius.

"No, he didn't," diin ni Ging. "In fact, Julius was the first to confirm that he's staying, that he's accepting Bandila."

"They did not shape nor do they have any influence in our editorial policies," diin ni Reyes.

"Kung sila ay gagawa ng istorya—we will check it, we will edit it as editors, we will check it for balance, accuracy, and fairness. There's a news process, there's a hierarchy of writers and producers and even myself...

“We know our craft as journalists. Siguro, sinasabi lang ‘yon ng ibang tao dahil naging vice president si Noli, and then Korina is married to Mar. But they do not shape nor do they have any influence in our editorial policy. Kung sila ay gagawa ng istorya, gagawin nila and we will check it, we will edit it. As editors, we will check it for balance, accuracy and fairness. Dadaaan sila sa proseso. There’s a news process, there’s a hierarchy of writers And producers and even myself. Look. Listen. I’ll give you an example. Andrea Mitchell, NBC’s multi-awarded reporter has long been married to Alan Greenspan (economist at naging Chairman ng Federal Reserve ng Amerika), hindi naman naging isyu sa kanila. Christiane Amanpour (sikat na ABC News anchor at dating chief international correspondent ng CNN) is married to James Rubin, the former US State Department spokesman. Diane Sawyer (batikang TV journalist at co-anchor ng Good Morning America) is married to a film director (Mike Nichols). Another example, Tim Russert of Meet the Press who is highly respected was a political operative before he became a journalist. He worked for a politician, so halos pulitiko na rin. So, I guess we just see their strengths and we believe that those strengths can help our program,” paliwanag ni Ms. Ging.

Dagdag paliwanag ni Reyes, "Maliit ang mundo kasi nating ginagalawan—politicians and journalists and even movie stars circulate in a very small world, so to speak, na hindi natin mapigilan minsan nagkakatuluyan sila.

"We will try to still be comprehensive in our reporting, and of course wala naman tayong pinapatawad hanggang ngayon. We will just try to infuse more public service elements in the newscast.

"As a news organization, wala pong pagbabago sa aming commitment to truth and public service. We will continue to be incisive in our coverage and try to give all sides to a story."

Kuya Kim's Heart Operation Successful!

TV host and TV Patrol weather man Kim Atienza has never failed to keep the public updated. On Monday, he gave an almost blow-by-blow account of his successful heart surgery.

The 43-year old “Showtime” co-host expressed in his Twitter account his happiness on the success of the operation.

“Tweeps God is good!!! I am in ICU for the night, operation is 100 percent success! My hole is officially patched. My whole heart is for Christ to come in,” he tweeted.

The 3-hour operation was attended by Dr. Jonas del Rosario (surgeon), Dr. Gary Lopez (cardio) and Dr. Anna Nolido (neuro), according to the TV host.

According to Atienza, he underwent a transesophagial echo operation to locate the hole in his heart and had an amplatzer device placed in his blood vessel.

Despite his condition, a strong Kuya Kim amazed the public as he continued answering questions from his fans.

“I am resting in ICU, walang TV dito, iPad is all I can do,” he added.

The “Matanglawin” host also thanked his fans for the overwhelming support and prayers for his speedy recovery.

“Procedure is a success. I'm in ICU overnight. groggy still, thank you, thank you for all your prayers tweeps,” he added.

Atienza took a two-week leave for the operation and his recovery. His heart operation is also set to be featured in one of his shows on ABS-CBN.

Coco Martin Will Receive "Walk of Fame Philippines" Star

Award-winning actor Coco Martin will receive his own star on the “Walk of Fame Philippines,” the country’s version of Hollywood Walk of Fame, in Quezon City next month.

In his November 8 online column, veteran host German Moreno said Martin is one of the 30 celebrities who will be given the honor on December 1 in Eastwood City, Libis.

The hunk actor is also set to fly to the United States to promote his film "Noy," which is the Philippines' official entry to the Foreign Language Film category of the Oscars.

The 30-year old actor, hailed as the “Prince of Indie Films,” is one of the country’s youngest famers aside from John Lloyd Cruz, Sarah Geronimo, KC Concepcion and Christian Bautista.

The “Walk of Fame Philippines” was initiated by Moreno in December 2005 to pay tribute to both living and departed actors and actresses who gave exemplary contributions to Philippine show business.

Charo Santos-Concio Leads DZMM's TLC Project

"I've done this for the Philippine Daily Inquirer," sabi niya. "So this is the second time, and it's always an enjoyable experience.

"They're so interested. They're hungry for additional knowledge. Gustong-gusto nilang makuwentuhan.

We want this to continue."

"So, we're looking for volunteer teachers, volunteer doctors in the respective communities na pupuntahin natin para maipagpatuloy nila yung sinisimulan natin," sabi niya.

Julius Babao Denies Rumors of Resignation!

Multi-awarded ABS-CBN broadcaster Julius Babao said Monday that he is still connected with ABS-CBN despite rumors that he has resigned from the TV network.

“The rumor about the resignation is just a rumor. I am still with ABS-CBN,” Babao said in a text message.

Babao’s reaction came amid reshuffle in the popular news program “TV Patrol” which reintroduced former Vice President Noli de Castro and Korina Sanchez, wife of vice presidential candidate Mar Roxas, Monday night.

The move edged out Babao and Karen Davila, his co-host on the news program. Ted Failon will continue as anchor of “TV Patrol” with De Castro and Davila.

It was reported that Babao and Davila will join Ces Drilon in the late night news program “Bandila” last Monday night. But Babao said that he has not joined the “Bandila” team. He will continue his radio program “Magandang Morning with Julius and Tintin” aired over DZMM on weekends and the investigative show “XXX.”

“XXX,” which airs every Monday midnight, is also hosted by Pinky Webb and Henry Omaga-Diaz. Husband and wife team Babao and Bersola also host “Magandang Morning” weekends from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. over DZMM.

Babao also kept silent about his plans in the network, although it was reported that he has met with TV executives on his planned transfer to other networks.

“I cannot make any comment about the status of my work at this time, I hope you understand,” said Babao.

Reports claim that Davila has resigned from ABS-CBN.

Unconfirmed reports said that Davila has also met with executives of TV5 for her transfer to the progressive network. It is said that no agreement has been formalized between Davila and TV5 executives.

“Mukhang puno na yata ang slot ng TV5 kaya walang napagkasunduan sila Karen at ang ang executives ng TV5,” said Cristy Fermin, one of the co-hosts of the noontime show “Juicy” aired daily over TV5.
