GMA Network Inc. posted a 26% drop in profit in the third quarter of the year from a year ago, ff. a decline in air time revenues with the absence of political ads that boosted earnings in the same period last year. The company on Thursday announced that profit dropped to P583M in july to September of 2010 from P788M in the same quarter last year.
Gross revenue slipped by 10% to P3.3B as a result of 12% decline in air time revenue, which made the bulk of the total. “To be perfectly honest, the third quarter was a disappointment but not a very big one,” GMA chair and CEO Felipe Gozon said in a briefing. Gozon explained the company also had to raise its ad rates earlier in the year, which scared some big advertisers away temporarily. One advertiser, in particular, even boycotted the company for as long as three months due to the hike in rates.

The audience kept on throwing screams of cheer last Sunday as seven finalists performed in the country’s most-talked-about talent reality show, Star Power, Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar.
With their “excellent” remarks, it can’t be denied that the acclaimed Star Power judges—multi-talented R&B sensation Billy Crawford, Tawag ng Tanghalan grand champion and one of ABS-CBN’s creative geniuses Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz, and renowned singer and actress Mitch Valdes—were amazed with the seven, not forgetting to give constructive remarks.
“Natutuwa ako na napasama ako sa mga pipili ng next female pop superstar. Nakikita ko na lalo pang titindi ang labanan, kaya good luck sa mga finalists,” said Direk Bobot after hearing all of the performances.
For Billy, on the other hand, it is just the start of everything. According to him, the battle will get more exciting as it moves forward. “I’m really excited. I can’t wait to see everyone perform.”
This coming Sunday on Star Power, after Rated K on ABS-CBN, another seven finalists—Pauline Lutero (Makati), Ninay Lescano (Batangas), Kaye Rancho (Cebu), Joy Laquinario (Davao), Akiko Solon (Cebu), Cristele Gonzales (Compostela) , at Krissel Valdez (Davao)—perform the stories of their lives in My Story, My Song. Will the judges be impressed again?
If the finalists are now geared up, Mitch is also ready to critic not only the performances but also the characteristics of the finalists to judge if they are deserving to be Next Female Pop Superstar.
“We are so ready to find out the next female pop superstar. Ladies, are you ready for the challenge?” Mitch challenges the contenders.

According to her, ukay-ukay does not only offer affordable clothes but also unique fashion pieces that you can definitely mix and match.
“Simpleng buhay pero rock,” this is how Kaye describes her simple and prim and proper life. She shares that, like any other kid, she used to be bullied in school. But not any of the tears she shed will stop her from loving music. In fact, music paved way to the restoration of her lost self-esteem. Be it for singing or composing, Kaye’s best friend is her guitar.
God, on the other hand, is the only inspiration of Joy in her life. Be it a small or big task, it must be offered to the Lord, according to Joy. Her family is an active member of a Christian community. That’s why she really relies on the creator. “A girl of simple means and dreams” is what others describe Joy.
From Little Big Star to Star Power, Akiko wants to conquer it all just to enter stardom. She believes that she is destined to follow her star. With the several singing contests she joined, Akiko developed her self-confidence, which she used in a lot of aspects—including her academics. Akiko was a consistent scholar from first year to fourth year high school.
Even if destructive judgments will always come along her way, Cristele believes that dreamed limelight will never be away from her. She also considers her loving mother as her greatest companion. That’s why, win or lose, the independent-minded Cristelle will always be ready to face life’s most difficult challenges.
Krissel’s world almost fell apart when she knew that her beloved grandfather, whom she considered her father, has cancer. Krissel and her family were left by her biological father when she was still a child. But despite having a broken family, she was still able to hone her exemplary singing skills. Krissel is very grateful to her single mom who bravely raised her.

Explosive fistic action unfolds tonight as ALA Boxing Gym stars AJ "Bazooka" Banal and 'Mighty' Mark Jason Melligen slug it out with separate foes headlining the keenly-awaited "Pinoy Pride" mega fight card at the Pacific grand ballroom of Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Banal, who is in hot pursuit for another crack at a world title after a foiled bid against Panamian Rafael "El Torito" Concepcion last year, is expected to face an uphill battle against former two-division world champion Luis Alberto "El Demolidor" Perez in a 10-round bantamweight showdown, while the Las Vegas-based Melligen hopes to sustain his sizzling steak when he takes on Mexican KO arist Vladimir Hernandez.
Banal is hard-pressed to make an impression as he is guaranteed bigtime fights in the United States if he gets past the dangerous Perez.
Also, the 21-year-old Banal badly needs to win as this fight is the initial offering of the 'Pinoy Pride' trilogy designed by ALA Promotions and television giant ABS-CBN to transform Cebu as the new boxing capital of the world.
"In know the importance of this fight. I can't promise anything. All I can say is that I trained and prepare hard against Perez. I will just try my best to win," said Banal, who is coming off a spectacular fifth round stoppage of Japan-based Korean Big Yoo in the record-setting "Sandugo" boxfest last July 17 in Tagbilaran City.
Banal sports a 22-1-1 win-loss-draw record dotted with 18KOs, while Perez, who hurdled his lone bout of the year by second-round TKO of Freddy Madrigal five months ago at his hometown in Nicagarua, sports a 26-4 slate spiked with 17KOs.
In the supporting main event,TOP Rank welterweight prospect Melligen (19-2, 13KOs) will go up against the power-hitting Hernandez (18-3, 16KOs) in a surefire swashbuckling showdown between two ring gladiators with jack-hammer fists.
Melligen, who had the opportunity to spar with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather, Jr. while training in Vegas, lost only once in eight fights since he campaigned in the US early last year, while Hernandez is a certified knokcout demon having stopped 16 of his 18 victims.
Hernandez, however, hasn't fought for 14 months and appeared to glassy-jawed as he lost his last two fights by short distance, the last was by knockout in round five to Canadian David Lemieux on August 28, 2009 in Canada.

Nikki Valdez played one of the twelve children of Ai-Ai de las Alas in the 2003 box office comedy Ang Tanging Ina. She wasn’t able to join in the sequel Ang Tanging Ina Ninyong Lahat in 2008 because she was six months pregnant at the time so she is happy to be back for the third and final installment, Ang Tanging Ina Mo: Last Na ‘To, set for release this Christmas.
During the pictorial for the movie, Nikki had a great time being reunited with her siblings in the film, namely Marvin Agustin, Carlo Aquino, Shaina Magdayao, Mark Acueza, Yuuki Kadooka, and Serena Dalrymple. “Wala namang nagbago masyado. Parang kahapon lang, ha ha ha! Ngayon matatanda na kami, lalo na si Yuuki. Tumangkad na siya, pero ako hindi pa rin, ha ha ha!,” she said.
Seven years since the first Tanging Ina movie, most of the stars have gone on with their respective careers. But for the love of doing the last part of the film series, Nikki and the rest were very excited to sign up for the project. “Looking forward talaga kami lahat dito kasi alam naming magiging masaya. Lagi akong nagtatanong, ‘Nandito na ba si ano, si ganyan?!’ Masaya kasi nagkasama-sama uli kami. Parang isang malaking reunion itong pelikula na ito. Nangyayari naman talaga sa mga pamilya, lalo na ‘yung malalaki, na nagkakahiwalay dahil nagsasarili na. Para lang kaming naglalaro sa set.”

That’s why on their first day of shoot, they felt like they were a real-life family who was having a grand reunion. “Masarap ang feeling na marami kaming nakabalik kasi finally nagkitakita kami. Iba talaga na magkakasama physically. Ang sarap mag reminisce ng mga experiences namin. Kaya si Direk Wenn (Deramas) hindi na niya kami masyadong tinututukan kasi alam na namin ang gagawin dahil dito kami lumaki.”

After Magkaribal airs its final episode next Friday, November 5, Derek Ramsay shares that he is getting ready to take on a new kind of project after doing the hit fashion-oriented series. The Fil-Brit model-actor revealed that he is slated to go on a month-long concert tour this November along with KC Concepcion and Matteo Guidicelli. The tour will take them to various cities in the United States. “I finally surrendered because they’ve been asking me to do this for the longest time. I said to them, you know what, I’ve been on primetime and I’ve been acting for four years straight now and it’s exhausting, challenging, but exhausting at the same time. So I said para maiba naman. So susubukan kong kumanta,” he says.
Although he has sung in variety programs before, it is mostly just for a guest appearance or to promote a movie. Derek says that he will try his best, but knows the limitations of his talents. “I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m not any good at it. So for those that are going to see me there, I apologize in advance, but I’m going over there for the experience and to meet all of those people who supported me,” he says humbly. Although the 30-year-old actor promises to entertain his U.S-based fans, he says he has no plans of becoming a singer nor will he even venture into coming out with his own album. “I can promise you that that will never happen (laughs). I leave that to those that have that talent. For me kasi, I find it insulting na to do something na I know I don’t have in me. I’m not comfortable doing it, I know I don’t have that talent and for someone whose got that talent,” he admits.
In fact, Derek says he plans to just enjoy the whole experience even if he has never really been part of a concert before. “No, I’m not enrolled for any singing lessons. I’m going to keep it real. You know me. I’m not going to pretend. I mean, I try and practice with a mirror but not todo todo naman na paghahanda,” he says. The Magkaribal star doesn’t have a repertoire yet but says he prefers to sing ballads. “I don’t really have any idea. Even with videoke songs, I don’t have any particular favorite. But I’m probably going to sing something low and slow. Songs that I guess I could keep up with. I’m also going to be singing ‘Harana’ and ‘And I Love You So,’ yun mga ganung pace ng kanta,” he explains.
Angelica Panganiban will also be in the U.S at the same time as Derek, but not for work. The actor hopes to find an opportunity to meet up with her to celebrate. “Angel’s going to be spending her birthday here, but she’s going to celebrate with family over there sa States. I think they’re going to go on a cruise. Sana I can find time to join them. She’s going to be in the States,” he says. But even if those plans fall through, the couple will make up for it by celebrating Derek’s birthday together on December 7. “On the first week of December, we’re going to be together in Australia and doing a show there as well,” he says.
