Rayver Cruz is Lance Navarro on Kristine

They may be linked to the same girl, and portray rivals in a program, but ask Rayver Cruz about Zanjoe Marudo and he will answer, “he is a good friend.”

Rumors about their supposed rift began last week as the nation anticipated Rayver’s arrival in “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine,” where he plays Lance Navarro, the newest hunk to rock Paso De Blas.

Rayver revealed he usually spends off time on the set with Zanjoe, who is a friend for a long time already.

“Si Z kasi siya yung lagi kong kasama sa dressing room pero ‘pag may time, nag-uusap kami ni AA (Cristine) tungkol sa mga eksena.”

Since they belong in the same circle of friends, they also get to hang-out and drink. There were reports recently even saying Zanjoe is a bad influence to Rayver, which the latter instantly denied.

“Hindi bad influence si Z. ‘Pag goodtime talaga kayo ng barkada, minsan impossibleng hindi kayo iinom. Pero hindi naman magpapakalasing, o hindi naman sa puntong magpapaka-wasak kami, ‘di ba?” cleared the handsome actor.

If they are buddies in real life, their characters in “Kristine” are the opposite. Jaime will confront Lance this week when he sees him with Jewel. Desperate to fight for his love, Jaime will once again try to speak with Don Leon, but the Fortalejo patriarch will only embarrass him in front of the whole Paso De Blas.

Meanwhile, Emerald (Denise Laurel) will decide to keep the Montecielo Minings owned by their family, the same property her Marco (Rafael Rosell) and his former flame will try to take back.

Because of exciting developments like these, viewers chose to stick with “Kristine” even if GMA7 launched a new program, “Beauty Queen” on the same timeslot. “Kristine” ruled the nationwide overnight ratings last Monday with 13.8% and continues to register strong viewership to this day based on data from Kantar Media.

Bida Kapamilya Kicks Off

A nine-year-old girl in green stood out among the fans who flocked to SM Valenzuela, one of the legs of ABS-CBN’s Bida KApamilya grand fans day last week.

Marie (not her real name), an avid Kapamilya, is not your ordinary little girl. She is a ”special” child. Her unusual case did not hinder her excitement from beaming out. In fact, hers was the most noticeable among the crowd.

The crowd was excited to see their favorite ABS-CBN stars in person. And it was through the newly-launched Bida KApamilya grand fans day in Manila, Marilao, Valenzuela and Davao that their dream was realized.

Being the network’s inspiration, the audience deserves a special treatment from the station that has always been moved with their unique lives and stories.

ABS-CBN stars who graced the occasion were the cast of Mara Clara, Noah, Kokey, Imortal, and Magkaribal with hosts of Pilipinas Win na Win and the mainstays of Showtime and A.S.A.P. XV.

“Masarap po sa pakiramdam na makapagpasaya ng mga tao. Utang po talaga namin sa kanila yung success ng bawat programa at ng bawat artista,” Kathryn Bernardo expressed, the new Mara.

“Nakakatuwa po na ‘di po tumitigil sa panonood ng ABS-CBN yung mga tao. ‘Pag may natapos na palabas at may kasunod na bago, tuluy-tuloy po yung suporta nila kaya dapat lang po pasayahin po talaga sila,” Zaijian Jaranilla shared.

Celebrities who also shared their quality time with the fans were Jhong Hilario who drew shrieks and screams from the crowd with his wild dance moves, Mylene Dizon, Julia Montes, Albie Casino, John Manalo, Chokoleit, Gab Valenciano, Mickey Perz, Jayson Gainza, Melissa Ricks, Rico Blanco, Nina Dolino, Janelle, Rhap Salazar, Nina Jose, the 20 Star Power finalists, Melissa Ricks, Jake Roxas, Boyz Unlimited, Carol Banawa, Nonoy Zuñiga, Marco Sison and Rey Valera.

Part of making the Kapamilya happy, the celebrities personally gave those who attended the event giveaways and prizes that carved indelible smiles in everyone’s faces.

Bida KApamilya was launched to make every Kapamilya feel like bida. Even in the shows they produce, ABS-CBN makes sure that the life of every audience member is mirrored.

On Memory Lane: Remembering Rico Yan

"If we can teach young people to work hard, to persevere -- to endure the pain -- in making something out of themselves and in pursuing a dream, they will surely have character. And when our generation takes over the leadership of this country, imagine, father, we will be a nation of character!" - Ricardo Carlos Castro Yan (March 14, 1975 – March 29, 2002)

All souls day is approaching and it is the best time to remember one of the most well-loved Kapamilya, Rico Yan.

It was the solemn Good Friday of 2002 when news broke out that Rico, at a tender age of 27, died in his sleep at the Dos Palmas Resort in Palawan.

Rico was reportedly at the resort to shoot a TV commercial for a local telecoms company. According to a news item filed by the Manila Bulletin on March 29, 2002, the police report filed by Southern Tagalog police director, Chief Supt. Domingo Reyes, Rico's body was found inside his room at around 9 a.m. by his friend, actors Dominic Ochoa and Janna Victoria.

Dominic and Janna were said to have come looking for Rico when the latter failed to show up for their scheduled rendezvous at the resort lobby. Rico was reportedly rushed to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital, where doctors failed to revive him. A later autopsy revealed the matinee idol had died of acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis leading to cardiac arrest.

With initial investigations by the Palawan police yielding no signs of foul play in Rico's sudden death, his older brother, Bobby, flew to the town to pick up his brother's body. A televised funeral rites in Manila for the fallen youth idol was said to have been attended by an estimate 10,000 people.

Yan was a member of ABS-CBN's circle of homegrown talents named Star Magic. Under ABS-CBN, he has done 11 movies (including the classic "Got 2 Believe"), four soap operas (including "Mula sa Puso"), sitcoms like "Whattamen" (with Dominic and Marvin Agustin), and variety shows such as "Sang Linggo NAPO Sila" and "Magandang Tanghali Bayan."

Rico was also a businessman. He had a number of ventures, from pearl shakes to a resto bar and a coffee shop. He graduated from De La Salle University-Manila, with a degree in Business Management.

He was a Youth Spokesman for the Department of Education before he died, touring the Philippines for free to promote education among youths. Rico also established "Pinoy 'Yan!" a non-profit organization that aims to make young people stay in school and value education.

It is more than 8 years since then. And Rico Yan will forever live in our mind as a Kapamilya. Here is the documentary "Forever Young: Remembering Rico Yan".
