Jake Cuenca Pairs Up With Andi Eigenmann on Your Song

A rare love story graces “Your Song presents Andi” this Sunday as Jake Cuenca and Andi Eigenmann fall into a love doomed by their bloodline.

After tackling on the issue of teen pregnancy, Your Song now zeroes in the matters of a dysfunctional family as it tells a story about a strong-willed and a free-spirited woman (Andi) who finds love in the person of Jake in one magical, serendipitous first encounter. They seem to have the perfect romance until they discover that they are first cousins. Both try to fight their feelings for each other but their love is so strong that even if their families are against their relationship, they continue to follow their hearts. Their illicit romance puts their family in a messy situation.

Andi shared in an interview that she has never fallen into the traps of such romance, “Hindi naman nangyari sakin yun at hindi rin siguro mangyayari yun. It would be very complicated if that happens in real life.”

“Kakaibang kwento ito. Bihira lang na ma-feature yung mga ganitong klaseng story on television kaya dapat abangan talaga ng mga manonood. Ang galing-galing rin ng performance ni Jake dito,” Andi said.

Jake, on the other hand, expressed his thoughts on his first working experience with Andi, “Masaya katrabaho si Andi. Magaan kausap pero pagdating sa mga eksena, focused sobra. No wonder she has been given a big break.”

Witness an unusual love story blossom this Sunday on “Your Song presents Andi” under the direction of Tots Mariscal-Sanchez after ASAP XV on ABS-CBN.

Confessions of Young Prostitutes on Failon Ngayon

What’s life like for a 12-year old prostitute? Rica (not her real name) may be your typical elementary school girl but when the night comes, her young body is being devoured by matured men in exchange for a meager amount. Little did her parents know that she is doing such sexual acts at her very tender age because of their impoverished condition.

Kim (not her real name) shares almost the same story as she learned to sell her body at the age of 16 to help her siblings and aid her father who is working as a fisherman. At times that she cannot take doing the ‘deed’ all the way, Kim revealed that she, alongside other minors, offer a service called ‘pakalog’ where they let their patrons fondle the sensitive parts of their bodies for only P150-P300.

Watch the complete story in “Failon Ngayon,” anchored by Ted Failon, this Saturday (Oct 25), 5:30 PM on ABS-CBN.

20 Powerful Voices on Star Power

After thorough screening by the Megastar and ABS-CBN top management, the 20 finalists were chosen to vie for the first Star Power title.
Everyone was pleasantly surprised last Sunday as the one-and-only Megastar Sharon Cuneta, together with ABS-CBN’s most distinguished executives announced not only 12 but 20 finalists among the regional contenders, to compete in the much-talked-about Star Power, Sharon’s Search for the Next Pop Superstar.

“It really took us a hard time to choose. Sobrang gagaling ng mga sumali from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Instead of just 12, we’ve decided to choose 20, whom we think have the potential of becoming the next female pop superstar,” the Megastar said.

The eminent panel of deliberators, who meticulously chose the 20 is composed of ABS-CBN President and Chief Operating Officer Charo Santos-Concio, former ABS-CBN President Freddie M. Garcia, Head of ABS-CBN Channel 2 Cory Vidanes, Entertainment Head Linggit Tan, Managing Director of Star Cinema Malou Santos, TV director/star builder and Star Magic consultant Johnny Manahan, Managing Director of Star Records Anabelle Regalado-Borja, Asap XV, Asap Live and Star Power Business Unit Head Joyce Liquicia, and of course, Megastar Sharon Cuneta. All of them shared their constructive remarks to each of the regional finalists who showcased their singing talents.

“I am proud to welcome them in my Star Power circle,” said Sharon as she announced the names of the finalists. The battle between the 20 starts this Sunday in Star Power, after Rated K on ABS-CBN.

This Sunday, seven of them—Rheena, Camille, Glaiza, Angeline, Laurice, Macy and Sam—shine as they sing songs of their lives in My Story, My Song. Megastar will also take a deeper look on the lives of each of these contenders.

Rheena, the first contender to perform on Sunday dreams to enter the prestigious Conservatory of Music. Her retired soldier dad, however, wants her to be a lawyer. But the young Rheena believes she can be a singing lawyer. “Lahat nang natutunan ko from my parents, especially my father, gagamitin ko para matupad ko ang mga pangarap ko sa buhay,” Rheena said.

Camille, on the other hand, learned from her father that in this world “nothing is permanent.” That’s why in every opportunity that comes along her way, she always gives her best shot. “Dumating sa point na sobrang nabaon na ang pamilya ko sa utang. Kaya gusto kong gamitin yung talent ko upang bumangon kami at maitaas, kahit papaano, yung antas ng pamumuhay namin. Kung nasa ilalim kami ngayon, I’m sure there will come a point na giginhawa din ang buhay namin,” she shared.

For Glaiza, the fierce contestant from Luzon, family must always be the first priority. Her mom is an accountant while her dad is a security guard. Their smooth-sailing lives were only derailed a bit when her sibling ran away after he had a misunderstanding with their dad. Since then, Glaiza’s life gradually became very sad as she lost one of her best companions—her kuya. In her quest for stardom, she also hopes for her family to reunite again.

Angeline also had a bittersweet life. She never met her biological mother while her father abandoned her when she was still a child and already built a new family. Despite all the misery she experienced, Angeline is still grateful to have grown up with her loving grandmother. “Sumali ako sa Star Power para sa mga taong hindi na naniniwala sa akin,” shares Angeline.

So long as she has her guitar to strum, Laurice will be the “happiest person alive.” She shares that whenever she’s happy she just sings it out loud. Her most “down” moment is when she had to quit school because of financial constraints. Now, with Star Power, Laurice wants to regain whatever important thing she lost in her life.

Beauty, brains, singing talent, happy family and well-off life are the things Macy has. But because of the separation of her parents, all of these shattered. She was then turned over to her grandmother’s care. Her loving grandama, however, died. And that’s the time she felt so alone. Insecurities and fears are only of the few effects Macy got from her life experience. Will she be able to rebuild herself in Star Power?

Sam, who will perform on Sunday, believes that not everyone is given a second chance at life. She shared her experience when she and her best friend amazingly survived a horrible vehicular accident. That’s why, for her, life really has to be cherished and lived to the fullest. She also dreams to have her own album in the future. Will Star Power pave way for it?

“In every song you sing, you should really have a heart for it. Just believe in yourself,” Star Power co-host and Asian Idol Christian Bautista advised the contestants.

With contestants already geared up, Star Power again dominates the Sunday’s Primetime block. Never miss the unending surprises in “Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar” on Sunday, October 24, after Rated K on ABS-CBN.

"I saw them, I walked in. I was shaking. I wouldn't be here right now if it wasn't for them," sabi ng isang fan.

Jericho Rosales on Working With Anne Curtis for Green Rose

Although their taping in Korea got postponed, Jericho Rosales shared that he and Anne Curtis are still busy doing advance episodes for the Pinoy adaptation of the Korean drama, Green Rose. This is their first team-up on TV and the acclaimed actor was happy to say that the scenes that they’ve done so far are all worth waiting for. “May mga kilig moments pero mostly beautiful and moving scenes ang dapat abangan ng viewers sa amin ni Anne. Hindi niya alam but I draw emotions from her. I feel her support. Although sometimes on her part ginugulo ko siya. But every time I work with Anne, I think of very nice concepts and love stories kasi perfect partner siya sa screen,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph last October 19.

Jericho further described Anne as the type of leading lady whom he could easily share a laugh with during breaks and still be able to deliver a dramatic performance once the camera starts rolling. “You know that feeling when you look at someone and you believe in that person? And in your heart, you know that you can do it and she delivers. I get that from her all the time. I can freely do what I want to do in a scene and she wouldn’t get bothered. Sasakyan niya yun kaya nakakagawa kami ng magandang eksena. And at the end of a heavy scene we give each other a high five. I got so kilig nga one time kasi sabi niya sa Twitter, ‘Hey Jericho. Saludo [ako sa ’yo] ang galing mo.’ Nakaka-inspire siyang katrabaho,” he explained.

But aside from the love story, one of the interesting highlights in Green Rose is the action-packed scenes that Jericho’s character has to go through. “Honestly ang hirap i-mount yung first three weeks ng Green Rose kasi ang lalaki ng eksena. One time may sinirado kami na big important tunnel dito sa Manila and then nagpasabog kami ng kotse sa loob. Tapos sunod-sunod na araw na taping ko kung hindi ako nagwawala, tumatakbo, sumisigaw, umiiyak, nakikipagsuntukan. Ganon siya ka-demanding.”

Except for a few dangerous scenes, Jericho said that he has actually done a lot of difficult stunts for this series. “Nasaktan ko na wrist ko, leeg ko, elbow ko. Ang dami ko ng injuries nagsisimula pa lang kami. So I have to strengthen my body. And it helps my mindset as well kasi mas nagiging in the mood ako magtrabaho. I noticed big changes [in myself] nung nagsimula ako sa Green Rose kaya kahit nakakapagod sulit naman lahat ng paghihirap namin para sa show,” he beamed.

Good Vibes For James, Bret and Ivan!

Former housemates of Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010 James Reid, Bret Jackson, and Ivan Dorschner signed contracts as the newest endorsers of Jag Thug clothing line. In an interview following the contract signing, the three shared with PUSH.com.ph that they are working on the upcoming weekly teen drama series Good Vibes. Ivan said, “We have this new show under Direk Lauren’s (Dyogi) team, it’s entitled Good Vibes. The show is like ‘yung movie na Step Up na teleserye. Kasama namin sina Sam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, Enrique Gil, and other new stars.”

Fil-Australian James, who won as the Teen Big Winner for PBBTC, said he now better understands Tagalog but still finds it hard to speak the language. In Good Vibes, he will be playing the balikbayan cousin of Arron. “I’ll be playing Spencer. I’m Arron’s cousin. I can’t dance so I tried to join the crew so I can learn how to dance.”

Bret has no Filipino blood but his stepmother is Pinay and they have been living in Dumaguete for seven years now. Though he won’t be acting in Good Vibes, he was chosen to sing the theme song of the show, “All I Need is Love.” He said he was very thankful for the opportunity to sing the show’s theme song because his primary goal in showbiz is to sing and make music. Bret is still a guest VJ for MYX, a job he won during a competition held while they were all living inside the PBB house.

Good Vibes, or GV, tells the story of a group of teenagers who share a common passion for dancing. To gear up for their roles in the series, James and Ivan together with the other stars are undergoing dance workshops three times a week under renowned choreographer Maribeth Bichara.

Aside from dance workshops, James and Ivan are also continuing their acting classes at ABS-CBN. Since they are just newbies in the industry, the two understand that they may have to wait before they can be trusted with good acting roles. “We’re just waiting for the right roles for us. Hindi naman agad agad we get the roles na sakto for us. We have to wait sometimes,” Ivan explained. In Good Vibes, James will be paired with Devon Seron, while Ivan will be with Fretzie Bercede. Both Devon and Fretzie are also from PBB Teen Clash of 2010.

The New Mara and Clara

Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes are ready to grace primetime television beginning October 25 as the new title characters of the ABS-CBN teleserye Mara Clara. The drama is based on the ‘90s series that starred Judy Ann Santos and Gladys Reyes in the title roles. During the press conference of the new Mara Clara, Kathryn and Julia talked about meeting Judy Ann and Gladys. “Before po kami mag-taping na meet ko na sina Ms. Judy Ann and Ms. Gladys. Nagbigay po sila sa amin ng ilang advice. Sabi nila galingan namin sa bawat eksena kasi napakalaking project nito na ipinagkatiwala sa amin. Sobrang bait nila sa amin,” shared Kathryn. According to Julia, the most important tip they got from the original Mara and Clara is not to be just copycats. “Ang pinakaimportanteng sinabi nila sa amin is hindi naman talaga namin sila kailangang eksaktong gayahin. Gawin namin siya as original na sa amin.”

Kathryn looks up to Judy Ann as her acting idol, that’s why she admits feeling the pressure as she takes on the role originally done by the Young Superstar. “Idol ko po si Ms. Judy Ann and alam po natin na talagang napakagaling. Nakaka-pressure na kailangan kong tapatan ‘yung galing niya para hindi naman masira ‘yung pangalan ng Mara Clara.”

Julia also talked about the challenge of reaching the high ratings of the first Mara Clara which ran for five years. “Goal namin talaga na ma-achieve ‘yung level ng success ng original Mara Clara. Kaya patuloy kami sa pagdadasal at minamahal lang namin ‘yung trabaho namin para maging maganda para sa aming lahat.”

Opposite of their roles as Mara and Clara, Kathryn and Julia are good friends in real life, dating back when they were just child stars on Goin’ Bulilit. “Since Goin’ Bulilit kami na ‘yung magkasama. Ako na ‘yung Ate niya, pero ngayon kontrabida na ako ni Kathryn. Wala pong kumpetisyon. Nasabihan po kami na wala dapat ganun. Tulungan lang sa ikakagaganda ng show.”

Since they already feel comfortable with one another, Kathryn and Julia would make it a point to talk and prepare whenever they would do a physical scene. “Bago pa man mag take nagso-sorry na kami sa isa’t isa. Talagang pinaghahandaan namin ‘yung eksena, kung paano gagawin, ang position, para hindi siya maging masyadong masakit.”

As the new primetime villainess, Julia said she is not afraid if she will be typecast in kontrabida roles. “Hindi naman po ako natatakot kung ma-typecast man ako sa kontrabida roles. Kung magkaganun man siguro bahala na ang management kung sa tingin nila bagay talaga ako sa ganung roles at kung gusto rin ng mga tao.”

Jhong Hilario on Mara Clara

Dancer-actor Jhong Hilario says being part of the remake of Mara Clara is a great opportunity for him to remind his followers that he can also act.

The member of the all-male dancing group Streetboys will be playing the role of Gary David, the cruel father of Mara (Kathryn Bernardo). His role was originally portrayed by the late actor Eruel Tongco, whom Jhong idolizes, in one of the longest-running soap operas.

"Napanood ko siya before. Talagang sinabi ko, 'Idol ko 'to, talagang matatakot ka kapag naging tatay mo 'to.'

"So, 'yon ang ina-apply ko sa sarili ko. Dapat maging masama ka talagang tatay para magampanan mo ang isang Eruel Tongco. Maging masama kang asawa, maging masama kang tatay," Jhong told in an interview at the presscon of Mara Clara last night, October 20, at 9501 restaurant inside the ABS-CBN compound.

For his avid fans, Jhong had already proved his worth as an actor in the following Marilou Diaz-Abaya films: Sa Pusod ng Dagat (1998), Jose Rizal (1998), Muro Ami (1999), and Bagong Buwan (2001). Plus, some other movies and television series.

However, the 34-year-old dancer-actor said that he will try to offer something new to the viewers on Mara Clara.

"Bukod sa isang masamang tao na kaiinisan nila, siguro 'yong ibang flavor ng acting, ibang atake, iba sa mga nagampanan ko noon," he said.

THE CONSEQUENCE. Although Jhong is excited about his new project, he's also sad because he had to leave his daily stint on Showtime, where he became the longest staying "hurado" and was already named as "Sample King."

It can be remembered that Jhong bade goodbye to the show on September 17, but did not say his reason for leaving. He told PEP that it was really the request of Mara Clara executives for him to leave Showtime after he accepted their offer.

"Sinabihan ako na, 'Okay ka ba na mag-taping? Kaya lang igi-give up mo ang Showtime.'

"Kasi nga, magsa-suffer sila kapag magsu-Showtime pa rin ako dahil, unang-una, maglu-launch na kami. 'Tapos may morning show, mauubusan ng day effect. Kawawa naman 'yong ibang artista na naghihintay. So, kailangan ko talagang i-give up."

At first, Jhong was hesitant to leave the show.

More than a month after not appearing on Showtime, Jhong said he really missed the daily talent search program.

"Kasi family na kami doon at 'yong bonding namin, sobrang tight na," he said.

"Nakaka-miss kasi 'yong pagtanggap sa 'yo ng tao, mainit na. Hinahanap ka na ng mga tao. Sa Twitter at sa Facebook, tinatanong nila, 'Kailan ka babalik ng Showtime?'

"'Yon ang nakaka-miss doon kasi gustung-gusto kong magpasaya ng tao. Mapilayan man ako sa Showtime, okay lang kasi ang gusto ko lang ay makapagpasaya ng tao."

But Jhong is not worried about leaving Showtime for Mara Clara.

"Alam kong maraming nagtampo or nalungkot dahil nga umalis ako sa Showtime.

Andi Eigenmann is Galema!

ABS-CBN's upcoming new show "Galema, Anak ni Zuma" will depict the story of mythical creatures known for having a two-headed snake wrapped around the shoulders. The Kapamilya Network and the creators of the original Zuma series—director Ben Yalung and writer Jim Fernandez—have already agreed to bring it to life again via television.

Galema, Anak ni Zuma is sure to heat up your nights with the beautiful and sultry Galema, which will be played by one of the most talented and stunning faces in showbiz.

The man behind the hit series Marina, Kampanerang Kuba, Dyosa and other popular fantaseryes, director Wenn Deramas will create the television version of Galema with Raymund Dizon as business unit head.

Anak ni Zuma was serialized by Aliwan Komiks from 1976 to 1984, making it one of the longest running series in Philippine komiks. In 1985, the film Zuma was shown to the public with Max Laurel cast as the evil Zuma and Snooky Serna as his kind-hearted daughter named Galema. Max reprised his role in the follow-up film titled Anak ni Zuma.

In the 1985 movie, Zuma (Max Laurel) was entombed in a buried Aztec pyramid but he was unearthed by an archaeological expedition team. The demigod wrecks havoc in the world but he is buried again in an avalanche. Years later, he resurfaces and faces his offspring (played by then child star Snooky Serna).

And guess who will finally star as Galema? It is Agua Bendita herself, Andi Eigenmann!

Get Tease on ANC!

Mornings@ANC co-anchor Ginger Conejero is another woman at the helm of a new ANC show. Since September 28, Conejero has been giving viewers a refreshing respite from hardcore news through “Tease.”

The show is hip, hot, and pop, a review of all things in the media’s pop culture galaxy—from music, to movies, theater, television, and art.

“Tease is an art show that takes on the best and the worst of Philippine pop culture. It’s a fast ride: sharp and unpredictable and a lot of good not-quite-clean fun,” said the show’s executive producer, Patricia Evangelista.

The show features in studio interviews with the biggest and also the funniest faces of the art scene—comic book artists, critically-acclaimed writers, theater actors, indie stars, rockers, and soap opera kings—and provides a closer look at their body of work.

Tease will also dish out sneak previews and early reviews on coming films for the week, as well as a glimpse at the artists and directors involved.

ANC Chief Operating Officer Glenda M. Gloria said ANC hopes to add variety in its programming with an offering that is “something out-of-the-box, irreverent and hip.”

Pioneering bright new concepts is not new for ANC, which is one of the first media organizations to tap social media. So far, ANC has established a solid presence online, with around 34,000 of its 41,076 fans in Facebook actively participate in the ANC 24/7 wall, while post views reach an average of no less than 500,000 a month.

Last Tuesday (Oct 19), ANC reached another milestone when its unique followers on twitter broke the 100,000 mark, making it one of the most followed twitter accounts in the country. It also tops the list of the most influential Philippine news accounts on Twitter.

Catch “Tease” with Ginger Conejero every Tuesday at 9:30 pm on ANC SkyCable channel 27.

Girl Power on ANC's "The Brew"

An all-girl opinion show and a pop culture review program are set to premiere on ANC.

SkyCable’s top a la carte channel, the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), is brewing an all-girl opinion show that will help viewers digest the hottest issues of the week, and a thirty-minute program on everything pop culture hosted by one of ANC’s young female anchors.

In the one-hour weekly show called ‘The Brew,’ news anchor Twink Macaraig, TV reporter-turned-producer Nadia Trinidad, and radio host and alternative educator Gang Badoy will tear apart topics ranging from politics, pop culture, show business, to online chatter. The Brew, which is a spin-off of the US talk show ‘The View,’ will premiere on October 21, Thursday, at 7pm on ANC.

“The audience can look forward to hearing three crazy people. We would be discussing different issues, telling you bluntly what we think about certain personalities we love or we hate. They can expect spontaneity. It’s not a newscast. It’s not your structured talk show,” Trinidad said.

“Viewers can expect synergy brought about by the different elements, the different personalities, the different perspectives that the hosts represent,” Macaraig added.

Aside from exchanging views, the hosts will put colorful newsmakers on the hot seat and grill them about controversial issues. They will also go to adventures, do social experiments and feature viewer feedback gathered through ANC’s social media platforms.

“The word ‘brew’ is a verb but it’s also a noun. So I guess like the show, it really is an act of questioning, an act of sharing ideas and at the same time, it’s something people can watch and respond to,” Badoy said of the show’s interactive nature.

Away from the anchor’s desk

Macaraig brings into the show her experience as a seasoned journalist with a career that spans 25 years including stints in the TV news magazine show ‘The Probe Team’ and international news organizations CNBC and Channel NewsAsia.

The anchor of ANC newscast ‘On the Scene’ and the debate show ‘Square Off’ said ‘The Brew’ is more creative and offbeat than anything she has ever done before.

“It’s a show that will allow me to air my opinions for once and to relax and show a bit of a more personal side that you would otherwise not see when I’m behind an anchor’s desk.”

Being her ‘evil’ self

Trinidad, who has been a senior political correspondent for ABS-CBN for 12 years, said ‘The Brew’ is a refreshing change for her as well.

“I’ve been trained to keep my thoughts to myself. Now that social media is prevalent, reporters have found a venue to be themselves more. This show is something like that. It’s a venue where I could share my insights. I get to be my evil self!”

Trinidad has covered Malacañang, Congress, and the Supreme Court. She recently came from a one-year fellowship at Stanford University under the John S. Knight program for professional journalists and produces for ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs.

Out to engage viewers

Badoy meanwhile started out in traditional media and went on to start Rock Ed Philippines, an alternative education volunteer group that aims to keep the young ones abreast with civic issues.

The proponent of the ‘Dear Noynoy’ and ‘Dear Gloria’ online projects said she wants to engage with viewers. “When we have instant reactions from people who are watching us while they’re online, I think we get a harvest of very honest answers and reactions, and my God, the Philippines needs honesty right now.”

Badoy also writes and hosts Rock Ed Radio on NU107 and has just been named a recipient of the Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) awards last Tuesday (Oct 19).

Catch “The Brew” with Twink Macaraig, Nadia Trinidad, and Gang Badoy on October 21, Thursday, at 7pm on ANC SkyCable channel 27.

"Lazarus" Tale on I Survived

Twice he almost died and twice he survived in a miraculous way.

This is the story of welder Apolo de Mesa. In 1968, he fell from a height of 50 feet while working on a site. Aside from wounds on his scalp, he was unbelievably declared safe from harm.

But his misfortune didn’t end there. Four years after his accident, he fell again, 90 feet down just before he could strap his safety belt.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital, but the vehicle used to take him there would stop from time to time due to engine failure. By the time they got to the hospital, he was declared dead and the doctor ordered for his body to be sent to the morgue.

His wife, however, saw his eyes move and upon checking again, they heard a pulse.

Can a dead man really come back to life? Don’t miss the incredible survival story of Apolo with Ces Drilon-Oreña on “I Survived,” this Thursday (Oct 21) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.
