ABS-CBN Sponsors Jack Jones Live in Araneta Colliseum

Who can ever forget the classic ditties “She,” “The Love Boat Theme,” “The Impossible Dream,” “What I Did For Love,” “Wives And Lovers,” “Free Again,” “If You Go Away” and “Lollipops And Roses,” among many others?

No other artist could have interpreted these songs with such musical perfection than their original singer, Jack Jones, one of the most popular vocalists of the ’60s.

Jack Jones will treat Pinoy fans to a magical evening featuring a dazzling collection of his greatest hits when he visits Manila for a live concert on Oct. 16 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Dubbed as “Jack Jones’ Greatest Hits Tour,” the musical presentation from Ovation Productions will showcase the breadth and diversity of talent of the American idol who rose to fame with his distinctive music.

Jones will wow the audience with such classic hits as “She,” “The Love Boat Theme,” “The Impossible Dream,” “What I Did For Love,” “Wives And Lovers,” “Free Again” and “If You Go Away.”

Other all-time favorites he will perform are “The Shadow Of Your Smile,” “With One More Look At You,” “As Time Goes By,” “Strangers In The Night,” “Call Me Irresponsible,” “Lollipops And Roses,” and many more.

Born in Los Angeles to romantic lead actor and recording artist Allan Jones and actress Irene Harvey, Jack Jones began studying music in high school and, after graduation, made his professional debut at age 19 by joining his father’s act at the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

His biggest pop hit was “Wives And Lovers” (1964) by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, which also won for him a Grammy Award for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance.

In his recent release for Honest Entertainment, “Jack Jones Paints A Tribute To Tony Bennett,” he pays homage to a friend and an American icon whom he counts as among the vocalists who most influenced his style (along with Mel Torme, Sammy Davis, Jr., Billy Eckstein and Frank Sinatra).

The album, which contains some of Bennett’s signature songs (including three of Jones’ personal Bennett favorites, “Skylark,” “Shadow Of Your Smile” and “You Must Believe In Spring”), was nominated for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance and Record of The Year.

As a movie actor, Jones made his film debut in “Juke Box Rhythm” (1959) and acted in other films, like “The Comeback,” “Cruise Of The Gods” and “Airplane II: The Sequel.”

Now on his 52nd year in show business, Jones continues to entertain and regale millions with his golden voice.

The “Jack Jones’ Greatest Hits Tour” is produced by Ovation Productions and sponsored by Imarflex, ETC Entertainment Channel, 2nd Avenue, Hallmark Channel, Edsa Shangri-La Manila, Mercedes-Benz, RJ 100.3 FM and ABS-CBN.

It is also supported by The Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, BusinessWorld, 97.9 Home Radio.

Tickets are priced at P4,500, P4,000, P3,500, P2,500, P1,000 and P500 and are available at Ticketnet outlets at all SM Department Stores and at the Araneta Coliseum ticket office

ABS-CBN Remains to be Leader for TV and AM Radio Nationwide

Vampires and werewolves of ABS-CBN’s newest fantasy series “Imortal” took their first bite on the nationwide viewership shares and scored a rating of 34.4% on its premiere episode beating its rival program with only 22.7%, according to data from Kantar Media.

The primetime soap topbilled by John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin immediately hit second place with a rating of 34.4% when it premiered oct 4 and it was only a decimal point behind top-rater “Noah” (34.5%).

As a new addition to the Primetime Bida line-up, “Imortal” beefs up ABS-CBN’s already unbeatable primetime block this October, picking up from its dominance last September where it scored an average audience share of 40% versus GMA 7 with only 34%

TV5 ranked far third and remained stagnant it its place with a meager 8% audience share. Fourth placer Studio 23 is fast catching up with 5% share or only three points behind TV5. Its audience share has been on an uptrend since January month-on-month.

Nine out of the top ten most-watched programs nationwide for September were produced by ABS-CBN. These are “Agua Bendita” (32.6%), “Noah” (34.1%), “TV Patrol” (32.6%), “Wansapanataym” (29.1%), “Momay” (27.7%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (27.4%), “Idol” (26.9%), “Kokey@Ako” (25.9%), and “TV Patrol Weekend” (24.8%),

ABS-CBN remains the undisputed leader on weekend programming beating all other shows. “Wansapanataym,” “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” and “TV Patrol Weekend” were among its top-raters and no other weekend programs from GMA7 and TV5 made it to the overall top 20 chart.

Meanwhile, noontime program “Pilipinas Win na Win” already bounced back to the top 15 programs nationwide last Monday (Oct 4) and gradually gaining momentum on its time block when the show introduced its new hosts Rico Puno, Marco Sison, Rey Valera, and Nonoy Zuniga.

ABS-CBN’s AM radio station DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 continues to conquer radio airwaves in Mega Manila for the month of August with an audience share of 32% based on the 2010 Nielsen Mega Manila RAM. Its FM counterpart Tambayan 101.9, on the other hand, remains steady at the number two spot among all FM stations.

Kantar Media, a global market research group, offers audience research measurement systems in 32 countries. It started releasing its Philippine television audience measurement data in February 2009 with panels composed of 1,370 representative households covering urban Philippines and reporting on seven sectors namely the National Capital Region, North Luzon, Central Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

ABS-CBN shifted to Kantar Media/TNS after filing a case vs. AGB Nielsen Media Research for failing to comply with its request to investigate alleged cheating and data tampering in TV ratings. The case is still pending in court. .

Barangay and SK Election on The Correspondents

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila will investigate the workings in a barangay to find out why many Filipinos aspire to become barangay officials this Tuesday (Oct 12) on “The Correspondents.”

As the smallest unit of government, the barangay is the first option when it comes to resolving issues and providing the needs of a community. But helping out the barangay isn’t always the reason for a resident to run for a position.

For the coming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in 42,000 locations in the Philippines, 4,000 citizens were already disqualified to run by the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Davila will study the scope of work and power, budget, and salaries for barangay officials to see how the position can be abused on “The Correspondents” this Tuesday (Oct 12) after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Gary V.'s Replay Album

Every time an album of Gary Valenciano will come up you can see an extraordinary swathe of the album. In his latest album Replays, under Universal Records, you can see photos of a gorgeous, young- looking Gary V both on the front and back cover, as most female entertainment press commented, “He looks hot!”

During the launch of Replay Gary humbly countered the comment “Honestly, hindi ko talaga tinitignan ang sarili ko, parang weird eh. I don’t know. I don’t really look at my self as somebody na who will fall into that category, the word hot and whatever.

“Siguro I’m just really blessed na after all these years, somehow nakakasabay pa ako sa mga you know mga nag-sasayaw sa ASAP and as far as physical appearance is concern I be able to maintain my weight with the people who are taking care of me, Angelie, and Gina, my sister. Major ingredient is God pero kung sasabihin ko yun general na yun diba pero the way he provide… In my case, I really enjoy coming up on stage, I really enjoy being able to talk to people.”

Replay is Gary V’s 28th album, composed of 17 songs where some of them are request from different people from all over the world. According to Gary each of his song in the album has each own story. His song “Home” is considered by Gary as a very special to him. “It’s not easy to think a song kasi I get very emotional, I don’t know…if I able to identify with others who are listening na kahit hindi kami kakilala nararamdaman ko yung nararamdaman nila when they hear the song”

It should BE noted that Replay is Gary V’s 25th full-length studio album under Universal Records and it’s main thematic concept is centered on the idea of providing Gary V’s previously recorded songs, culled from his past multi-platinum albums, a second chance in the mainstream since they did not make it on the top of the charts at the time of their release. These songs were not as popular, even bordering to being relatively unknown, as compared to the monster hits that other songs in their respective CD collections they belong to have come. Some may consider the song selections in “Replay” to be overshadowed or upstaged by the other certified hit songs of Gary V, hence they are somewhat overlooked by some fans, even neglected.

This time, these songs take the spotlight in Replay and it is surprising and refreshing to know that these songs are as relevant as when they were recorded several years ago.

For example, in his recent sold-out concert series Gary V: Soul in Motion, which happened at the Music Museum, Gary V wowed the crowd in a segment which showcased some the tracks found in Replay. Gary performed “Ohhh” and the CD’s carrier single “Did It Ever.” Music lovers and most interestingly, loyal Gary V fans were surprised to learn that “Did It Ever” was included in the album “Relevance” which bore such hits as “Wait Forever” and “Shake It Off.” “Did It Ever” sounds fresh, innovative, and clearly very much ahead of its time since it resonates the distinct sound and artistry of current pop/alternative songs-hip, edgy, melodic, and very strong in terms of recall. In “Ohhh” a song which was included in the album “Rebirth,” which produced such hits as “When I Hear You Call,” Gary’s strong spirituality is very important as he raps and belts out his strong and inspiring Christian convictions.

Some of the 17 digitally re-mastered tracks included in Replay are “One hello,” “Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo,” “And I Love You So,” “Home,” “Tell Me,” “Kailan Pa,” “Alam Ko Na,” and “More and More” among many other romantic and unforgettable songs.

Replay is released by Universal Records and it’s available in all record bars nationwide. Paul Soriano directed the music video of “Did It Ever” and it airs on MYX. To vote for “Did It Ever” on MYX. Type in MYX (space) VOTE (space) DID IT EVER and send to 2366

ABS-CBN Warned Vs. Showtime Scam

An ABS-CBN executive on Sunday warned the public against a text promo purportedly being conducted by ABS-CBN talent-variety show “Showtime.”

The promo is a scam, ABS-CBN Corporate Communications head Bong Osorio said in a statement.

He clarified that “Showtime” has not been conducting any text promo with a cash prize component.

“It does not send any text messages to anyone about winning cash prizes. The public is advised to ignore any such text message as it is a scam,” he said.

“Showtime” is a talent show hosted by Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Kim Atienza, Jugs Jugueta of Itchyworms, and Teddy Corpuz of Rocksteddy.

10.10.10 Run for the Pasig River, A Huge Success

In a powerful show of unity by Filipinos from all walks of life, Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig’s “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River” made history Sunday (Oct 10) with 160,000 registrants and more than 100,000 actual runners to break all Philippine records on the most participants in a footrace.

The monumental fun run, which aimed to create awareness and raise funds for the massive Pasig River clean-up campaign, could also be the world’s biggest advocacy run.

“I’m really happy that the run was peaceful and many showed up! It’s five times the attendance last year when 23,000 runners took part in the first Run for the Pasig River. Because of the huge turnout, some participants may have failed to walk through the manual counting chutes that were set up for the auditors to physically count the number of runners. We hope to address this next year by exploring other measures like the use of race chips,” ABS-CBN managing director Gina Lopez said.

Contingents from schools, religious groups, government agencies, the police and military, non-government organizations, business sector, and private institutions made up the enormous crowd that gathered at the run’s three starting points in SM Mall of Asia (MOA), CCP Complex, and Ayala Avenue in Makati.

Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos, accompanied by his wife Ming, fired the starting gun to mark the simultaneous opening of the “10.10.10 A Run for the Pasig River.”

Vice President Jejomar Binay, Mayors Alfredo Lim of Manila and Antonino Calixto of Pasay, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Francis Tolentino, boxing king and Rep. Manny Pacquiao, evangelist Bro. Mike Velarde from El Shaddai, and presidential sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, were also there to show their support for the cause.

Binay reminded the runners that showing concern for the Pasig River does not end at the race’s finish line.

“Maipagmamalaki natin ito bilang Pilipino. Pero hindi pa tayo natatapos dito dahil kailangan pa ding magtulong-tulong sa aktwal na paglilinis ng Ilog Pasig,” he said.

While Pacquiao described the river as a gift from God that we should protect, Aquino-Cruz likened Pasig River to an heirloom that has to be passed on to other generations.

“Let us clean up the mess that was made before us. Pasig River is a symbol of hope and what the future holds for the country. If we manage to clean it, then we have done our jobs as citizens,” Aquino-Cruz said.

Although the run was non-competitive in nature, KBPIP still honored the top finishers of the race with nominal cash prizes and medals made by relocatees in BayaniJuan sa Southville 7 in Calauan, Laguna. They also made baller bracelets, which were given to all runners after the race.

Richard Sulaño and Keizel Pedriña ruled the male and female categories in the 3k race while Mervin Guarte and Mhe Ann Barcena took home the biggest prizes in the 5k race. Alquin Bolivar and Dalin Karmil dominated their co-runners in the 10k category.

Despite the heat, the crowd still stayed for the post-race program featuring bands Kiss Jane, Frio, 6 cyclemind, ABS-CBN stars like Luis Manzano, Karylle, Melai Cantiveros, Jason Francisco, Jovit Baldivino, Bugoy Drilon, and Studio 23 hosts Arran Sese, Alex Calleja, and Juddha Paolo.

DZMM anchor Winnie Cordero also hosted the 3k pre-race program with Paolo while ABS-CBN senior sports correspondent Dyan Castillejo joined Piolo Pascual and Zaijan Jaranilla in welcoming runners at the 10K starting point.

ABS-CBN Chairman and CEO Eugenio Lopez III, also showed his commitment to the Pasig River cause by joining the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in the ceremonial 21K run, which kicked off from Marikina City.

ABS-CBN Foundation managing director Gina Lopez also recognized during the program the runners and the partners of KBPIP, including race organizers Eric Imperio, Rio Dela Cruz, and Thumbie Remigio for the Philippines’ newest achievement.

KBPIP aims to raise P10 million to P12 million in the run to start the clean-up at Estero de San Miguel, a tributary of the Pasig River. In 2009, KBPIP began dredging operations and relocation of informal settlers at Estero De Paco, which also flows into the Pasig River.

Lopez said in order to successfully clean the river, they must first clean the water that goes into it, and change the way people look at the river through events such as the 10.10.10 run.
