On Spotlight: Phoemela Barranda

At the recent StarStudio Celebrity Style awards where she was a presentor, Phoemela Barranda was all for supporting the celebrity fashion event. “I’m just very happy because I came from the fashion world and it’s nice to give an award and give credit to those who take time and importance to fashion. When you think of celebrities kasi, you think of acting awards. So to give them a award for fashion is really a good idea,” she says. The model and TV Patrol reporter shared that she noticed the growing importance of fashion not just in the entertainment industry, but with the public in general. “People are more fashion-forward now, not just the celebrities, but all people,” she said.

After recently celebrating her birthday, Phoem says she chose to just have a low-key dinner party. “It was very simple. I had dinner with friends for my birthday salubong kasi I don’t have my parents anymore so I celebrated it with close friends and cousins. That was on the eve of my birthday,” she says. The pretty host also shares that she treated herself to a new set of wheels this year. “I got a new car, a Mitsubishi Montero. Kasi yung car ko before for six years gave up on me na so kelangan na palitan. Sumuko na siya so I gave myself a new car,” she says. Phoem also had a simple birthday wish. “Of course I wish for more happiness. I feel so blessed actually. Because I’ve been working hard and I also wish for good health, yun lang.”

Admittedly not dating anyone at the moment, Phoem says she is content with just being single for now and that she and ex-boyfriend Ira Cruz are on better terms. “About the last guy that I dated, wala na yun. I’m very much single but I am happy. Okay na kami. We text. We’re okay. We’re civil. I’m happy na rin for Ira,” she says. Phoem also shares her thoughts on what happened between The Buzz and showbiz reporter Jobert Sucaldito. She says that unlike Jobert, she cannot say that she has been neglected or has any major complaints with how she is treated on the show. “I cannot say that for myself because I still love my The Buzz family and I still treat them as close friends and family and they still treat me well naman. Kasi with The Buzz naman, I have no hard feelings. Because I know they have to do everything for the show, for the format and the new face for the show. Siguro Tito Jobert has his own sentiments and I have my own sentiments but not to the point na galit. Not to the point to resign. In showbiz naman, you know that you’ll have to change the face, you have to change the host, the artist, so no hard feelings. I still love The Buzz,” she admitted.

Anthony Taberna, New Face of Studio 23 News

Anthony Taberna is now the new face of Studio 23 news with Iba Balita. Anthony, who also reports for DZMM, TV Patrol, and Umagang Kay Ganda, described Iba Balita as the show that combines straight news with fair analysis. “Ang napapanood natin kadalasan balita lang. Pero ngayon nabigyan tayo ng pagkakataon ng management na magbigay ng konting komentaryo na hindi naman pabor o against sa kung sino man. Hindi rin naman ini-impose ang komentaryo, pawang opinyon lang.”

Anthony is now one of the most visible reporters on TV. Aside from TV Patrol and UKG, he also co-hosts ABS-CBN’s investigative news program XXX which now has re-runs on Studio 23. The 35-year-old media man admitted that he feels very blessed to be entrusted by the News and Current Affairs division with all these shows. “Ito na yata biggest break ko kasi ako na ‘yung poste ng show. Nung kino-conceptualize pa lang itong show at nag-dry run kami, na-impress talaga ako sa look at content ng programa. Nakakalula itong mga nangyayari sa buhay ko. Hindi ko akalaing darating itong pagkakataon na ito sa akin.”

As much as he wants to be fully happy about his success, Anthony confessed that his work has begun to take its toll on his life as a husband and a father of two little girls. “Kung meron mang pinakamalaking downside itong nangyayari sa aking career ay ang kakulangan ng oras para sa sarili ko at sa pamilya ko. Umaalis ako sa bahay mga 4:30 ng umaga na tulog pa ‘yung misis ko at ‘yung mga anak ko paguwi ko sa gabi. Halos hindi na kami nagkikita.”

He shared that when Iba Balita was offered to him, he sat down with his wife for a serious talk. While he still considers family as his number one priority, Anthony doesn’t want to pass on the golden opportunities coming his way. “Itong bago ko ngang show mahaba-habang usapan pa sa aming mag-asawa dahil nga sa isyu ng oras. Pero sabi ko, hindi naman lahat ng tao nabibigyan ng ganitong oportunidad. Baka isang milyong tao ang gusto magka programa sa Studio 23 pero ako ang napili. Ako na yata ang pinakamaswerte.”

While his weekdays are mostly being eaten up by work, Anthony is decided that his weekends will only be spent with his family. When asked how he and his wife can find time to have a third child with his packed schedule, Anthony joked, “Marami pong paraan para diyan (laughs).”

Catch Anthony as anchor of Iba Balita, weeknights at 9 pm on Studio 23.

Procter & Gamble Celebrates 75 Years in ASAP XV

Any company that has been operating for the last 75 years will certainly have its share of history, more so if we are talking of a company like Procter & Gamble Philippines, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary for its Philippine operations.

It was in 1935 when Procter & Gamble bought the Philippine Manufacturing Company as its 2nd subsidiary outside North America, making the oldest subsidiary in Asia and the 3rd oldest of all international operations. Today, it has 1,300 employees and it’s Manila Service Center provides high-end accounting and IT services to P & G operations all over the world.

Internationally, the company has a total of around 138,000 employees with operations in 80 different countries with total sales turn-over of $80 billion dollars for its over 300 brands, a far cry indeed when the company was first founded by William Procter and James Gamble way back in 1837.

Procter & Gamble has been a Kapamilya all these years by supporting the ABS-CBN shows. Almost all their products are endorsed by Kapamilya stars. In line with this, Procter & Gamble celebrate their 75th Anniversary in ASAP XV. Here is the video of the performance of Kapamilya endorsers of Procter & Gamble products.

P&G made a music video with the Kapamilya stars which was also launched in ASAP XV with the music sung by Lea Salonga. Here is the music video:

Cheers to 75 years of Pride and Glory! Touching lives, improving life. P&G.

Kapamilya Snapshots: Behind the Scene of Till My Heartaches End Pictorial

Courtesy of www.mychos.com, we feature some behind the scene pictures of the pictorial of Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu for their upcoming movie, "Till My Heartaches End" under Star Cinema.

Synopsis of Till My Heartaches End

Here is the synopsis of the upcoming Star Cinema movie, "Till My Heartaches End" starring Gerald Anderson and Kim Chiu.

Paolo “Powie” Barredo (Gerald Anderson) is out to prove to the world that he is not just a son out of wedlock, but that he can succeed in life independently. Though he started out roughly, he soon picked up pace and climbed the ladder of success. But as things started falling into place, other important things in his life had to take a backseat as he experienced the thrill of finally achieving his goal.

Agnes Garcia (Kim Chiu) has always longed for the time when her family will finally be complete again. At the young age of 6, her parents left the country to work abroad – her mother was a medical technician in America, while her father worked as an engineer n Riyadh. Despite the distance, Agnes held tight to the inevitability that she will reunite with her parents once again when she passes the nursing exam and applies to work in the States.

The moment these two saw each other at the café, they couldn’t take their eyes off each other. Their attraction was apparent and it seemed that destiny brought them together. As they got to know the other better, they found solace and comfort in each other’s company. But the security they found in each other soon started to shake when their different life paths take them to different directions. Despite the love they both still have for each other, one must choose to decide when to let go, even if the other is still holding on.

"Til My Heartaches End" is out in theaters October 27, 2010.

Andi Eigenmann as the Heiress of Drama

After her unforgettable portrayal in Agua Bendita, Andi Eigenmann is now set to wow the viewers in her very own drama anthology via Your Song Presents: Andi starting October 10. When asked how she feels to be the first one to be launched in the revamped weekly series, Andi admitted that it came as a surprise to her as well. “Sobrang na-overwhelm ako kasi bakit po ako? Parang walang meaning kung ako mauna kasi ‘di naman ako isang Kim Chiu or Bea Alonzo. I haven’t been in the industry for more than a year. But a lot of people have been telling me that through Agua Bendita, I’ve shown them what I can do. And just want to show people that I can do more because the reason why I’m in this industry is because I want to do my craft and I want to improve through time,” she began.

The fact that she was recently dubbed ABS-CBN’s Heiress of Drama doubled the pressure that Andi is feeling. As a showbiz newbie, the 20-year old knows that she has a long way to go before she can be a certified dramatic actress. “I didn’t expect to receive something like this this soon. It’s all happening so fast to me. Everything seems so surreal. But then again if this is the way it is, then I’m going to accept every opportunity and every blessing that's been given to me because this is what I wanted anyway. Even if it’s so unbelievable that I’m getting it. But I must say that I didn’t get this overnight. This wasn’t handed to me on a silver platter. I’ve gone through so much before I got here,” she stressed.

But being the daughter of acclaimed actress Jaclyn Jose, there are lots of expectations for Andi to follow in her footsteps and to prove that she deserves the success that she’s enjoying right now. To which Andi replied, “Just because we’re related doesn’t mean I have to do the same thing. We’re already alike in terms of our physique as is. And I want to show people that I can step out of my mom's shadow. That I’m here in the industry not just because I am an Eigenmann or the daughter of Jaclyn Jose. Because of them, I have it in me. But because of me, I can be something that people will also see as a good actress and appreciate what I do.”

For the pilot episode of Your Song Presents: Andi, Andi got the chance to work with Jaclyn for the very first time in a story about the unexpected reunion of a mother and daughter inside a prison. “Since mommy ko siya, hindi naman ako nahihiya sa kanya and hindi ko naman siya nakikita as that veteran actress kasi sa bahay siyempre iba ang treatment namin sa isa’t isa. But then again when I was at work with her, I didn’t feel like arguing with her because I witnessed first-hand how much of a professional actress she is. At dahil nasa trabaho kami para ko siyang hindi nanay, iba. Pero pagdating sa acting part, diyan dumating yung pagbibigay ng advice ng mommy ko sa akin since na-witness din niya how I was as an actress and she saw the room where I can improve in which is perfect. Who would have known that my mother will be able to give me one of the best acting experiences I ever had? So I am really excited for people to see our dynamics here in Your Song,” she beamed.

Jake Cuenca's Upcoming Projects

Aside from his love life, Jake Cuenca was happy to say that he’s also blessed with lots of opportunities in his showbiz career. In a recent interview with Push.com.ph, the dashing actor shared that he has been busy shooting the film Huling Sayaw together with Aga Muhlach and Angel Locsin. “Oo four months na kami nagsyu-shoot. Love triangle kaming tatlo nila Angel and Aga. Pero my role there is a little offbeat. It’s a very big opportunity for me to share the limelight with Angel and Aga kasi iniidolo ko siya. I think one of the reasons kaya nabuo yung team-up din is because Angel and I did an episode for Maalaala Mo Kaya early this year. So I am very grateful. To be part of this film and to be directed by Olive Lamasan is a very big deal for me,” he began.

Jake has also started working with Anne Curtis and Jericho Rosales for the teleserye Green Rose. When told that Anne is all praises for him whenever local media ask her about their working relationship, he claimed that he feels privileged to be her leading man as well. “Wow, thank you Anne. I just do my best. Gusto ko galingan talaga kasi I’m working with such an amazing actor and actress. Siyempre gusto ko rin makasabay ‘di ba? Never ko pa nakatrabaho si Anne so nakakatuwa kasi sobrang cowboy niya, sobrang bait, parang one of the boys. I was never really close to her in the past. Pero nung nakilala ko siya, iba talaga siya, sobrang wala siyang arte, hindi siya mabigat kasama at all.”

Although he couldn’t give details about his role in Green Rose yet, Jake revealed that he gets to be a businessman this time around. “It’s a character role talaga. That’s why nung prinesent sa akin yun, as an actor, I had to accept kasi challenging. Parang tinetest niya maturity ko sa career ko because I’m being given a chance to create something very new. I did a sobrang bait na character sa Rubi tapos sa Tayong Dalawa matapang. But this time very subdued naman ang character ko. Hindi mo ako makikitang sumisigaw unlike before. There was no adjustment period between Anne and I. From the very beginning parang tumugma yung gusto naming gawin for our roles so sobrang saya and excited ako for this one,” he related.

With all the good projects coming his way, Jake is out to prove that he’s truly one of the certified dramatic actors of his generation. “Marami lang talaga akong oportunidad ngayon kaya gusto ko lang galingan sa lahat ng meron akong project. Kumbaga the real challenge is for me to prove what I can do. I want to make people more aware that I’m a serious actor.”

Star Power Premieres at 10.10.10

The Megastar joins forces with Asia’s Pop Idol and RP’s Prince of Pop in search for the next female pop superstar.

The long wait is almost over. The curtain is about to be raised. Witness as multi-awarded Megastar Sharon Cuneta spearheads the historic unfolding of her newest and much-anticipated Star Power, Sharon’s search for the next female pop superstar, beginning Sunday, October 10, after Going Bulilit on ABS-CBN.

Judged by acclaimed actor/director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz, concert legend Mitch Valdes and R&B sensation/TV host Billy Crawford, Sharon Cuneta’s Star Power empowers 20 young female hopefuls from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to maximize their own potentials, develop their talents and improve their skills. All of them undergo Sharon’s rigorous mentoring, but only one can be hailed female pop superstar.

Meanwhile, Star Power co-hosts Pop Prince Erik Santos and Asia’s Idol Christian Bautista shared in an exclusive interview how excited they are in their first-ever hosting of the talent search. It can be recalled that both of the singers were products of the talent reality search Star in a Million.

“It’s like a full circle. Ngayon, kami naman yung nag-iintroduce ng mga bagong batch ng singers. It’s a great honor and it’s a privilege kasi, in a way, alam namin yung pinagdadaanan nila. Alam namin kung paano sila tutulungan at susuportahan,” Christian said.

Star Power’s premiere on the historic 10.10.10 also marks Erik’s birthday. The Pop Prince expressed his gratitude not only for the hosting opportunity he got in Star Power but also for the happiness he has.

“My birthday wish is syempre, mataas na ratings ng aming show, ang Star Power. Siyempre parating good health, more projects… Ay, love life pa pala. Hahahaha. I want a love na magla-last,” Erik said.

According to Erik and Christian, to become the next pop superstar like them, Star Power contenders must be strong, humble and god-fearing enough to face the challenges the music industry offers.

“Be prayerful. Being in a competition, tama nga si Erik, dapat maging humble ka. Show your best performance always. Kapag nandun ka na sa stage, competitors muna sila. Backstage, friends mo na sila ulet,” Christian said.

If the 20 female contenders practiced painstakingly for their performances, Erik and Christian also prepared a lot in their talent search hosting venture.

“For this one, nag-research ako sa hosting ng isang contest like this one. Kailangan mo kasing magkaroon peg bago mo gawin ang isang bagay. At least meron kang paggagayahan, meron kang model. Binalikan ko yung mga episodes ng isang international singing competition. Tiningnan ko rin pati yung hosting sa Star in A Million before,” Erik shared.

With hosts and contestants already geared up, Star Power is now ready to dominate the Sunday’s Primetime block. Never miss “Sharon’s Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar” on Sunday, October 10, after Going Bulilit at ABS-CBN.
