Ondoy Victims Revisited on The Correspondents

It has been a year ago since Typhoon Ondoy hit Metro Manila and its neighboring provinces Laguna and Rizal.

Few Minutes to Go! Imortal Na!

The highly-anticipated primetime series on ABS-CBN will finally air its pilot episode tonight.

Helmed by Chito Roño (Feng Shui, Sukob), Imortal is the epic battle between two blood lines, the Bampiras and the Taong Lobo. Angel Locsin will play the role of a werewolf while John Lloyd Cruz will play the role of a vampire.

Other cast members include Maja Salvador, Gladys Reyes, Rico Blanco, Francine Prieto, ChinChin Gutierrez, Lauren Young and Precious Lara Quigaman.

Sam Concepcion Will Star in a New Teen SHow

After his acting stint in the movie Cinco last July, Sam Concepcion can’t wait to start working on ABS-CBN’s upcoming youth-oriented series where he gets to be the lead star. If things go as planned, it’s going to be a big break for this teen heartthrob who’s usually busy with his musical career and his regular gig in ASAP XV. “Oo nga e, napansin ko dun sa career path ko, I take time to do each one because, you know, I just like to do all these things. For a time I worked on my album, I concentrated on my music, then I do theater for a while, then I do acting lang, then I dance. I just feel really blessed that I am given the opportunity to be able to channel all that and explore the possibilities for me in the industry,” he says in an interview with PUSH.com.ph.

Sam has always been paired with Cheska Ortega in his music videos and even during his stint in I Love Betty La Fea. But for his latest TV show, Sam says that he’s going to work with a new set of Star Magic’s young stars including a few ex-Pinoy Big Brother teen housemates. “I’m really excited to work with a new bunch of people in the show like Devon Seron, James Reid and Fretzie Bercede among others. I am really excited to work on the concept and the people behind it as well. I really can’t tell the details yet. The only thing I can say for now is that it’s teen-oriented and it’s something our Kapamilya viewers should watch out for.”

In the meantime, Sam takes pride on his second solo album called Pop Class featuring the songs “Missed You”, “Someone” and “Be My Girlfriend” to name a few. Based on these tracks alone, one will instantly realize how Sam has grown as an artist from the time he did his first self-titled album three years ago. “It’s an exciting creation by Universal Records and me because all of my songs in this album have music videos and they’re all connected so it's like watching one mini-movie. It’s directed by Direk Paul Soriano who has directed all of my music videos ever since.”

Toni Gonzaga Talks About Mariel Rodriguez

Matapang ang mga naging pahayag ni Toni Gonzaga kahapon sa The Buzz nang muling pag-usapan ang isyu hinggil sa naging hindi pagkakaunawaan nila ng dating malapit na kaibigang si Mariel Rodriguez. Tinalakay kahapon ang mga iba pang nakaalitan ni Mariel na sina Luis Manzano, Anne Curtis, KC Concepcion at Vice Ganda. Noong Sabado ay inamin ni Luis na mayroon silang hindi pagkakaunawaan ni Mariel pero hindi siya nagdetalye. Umiwas naman si Anne na magsalita habang sinabi ni Vice na nakikinig lamang siya kina Toni at Mariel.

“Once and for all a lot has been said and done marami nang naisulat, marami nang nagbigay ng opinyon, marami nang nagbigay ng judgment sa lahat ng taong na-involved, pinili na nila Anne, Luis, Vice na huwag nang magsalita pa kasi mas lalaki pa mas maraming mai-involve, masasaktan,” panimula ni Toni. Sinabi rin ng singer-host-actress na sa buong nangyari ay marami siyang natutunang mga aral. “Siguro one thing that I will take from this whole experience is I’ve learned so much about life, about the industry, about friendships. And that’s one thing siguro na babaunin ko sa naranasan kong ito.”

Subalit habang nagbibigayan ng mga opinyon kasama ang mga co-host niya na sina Boy Abunda, Charlene Gonzalez at KC Concepcion ay hindi naiwasan ni Toni na magbigay pa ng kanyang mga saloobin. Nang tukuyin ni Boy Abunda na sumasang-ayon siya kay KC na mas maganda kung diretsahang nagsasabihan ng sama ng loob kesa sasabihin ito sa iba, nag-react si Toni. “Okay ‘yung confrontation, eh, okay ‘yung diretsahan, eh. Pero ang hirap at hindi ka mananalo kapag ang kausap mo ay hindi na nagsasabi ng totoo. In an argument ‘pag ang kalaban mo hindi na nagiging totoo sa ‘yo,” malaman niyang pahayag.

Nagpatama rin siya sa naging pahayag ni Mariel noong nakaraang linggo na nagsabing hindi umano maintindihan kung bakit sabay-sabay na lumabas ang isyu na marami siyang mga tao na nakakasamaan ng loob. “This will serve as a lesson, bakit nangyayari lahat at the same time, bakit sunud-sunod, it’s because what you saw is what you reap. ‘Yun ‘yung sana baunin nating lahat, kung ano ‘yung tinanim mo kasi magbubunga yan, eh.”

John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin Bares All

Sa paggi-guest nina John Lloyd Cruz at Angel Locsin sa The Buzz kahapon ay sinagot ng dalawang artista ang mga latest issues na kinasasangkutan nila. Ang malaswang isyung tungkol kay Lloydie kasama ng girlfriend na si Shaina Magdayao at ang latest hinggil sa relasyon ni Angel sa ex-boyfriend na si Luis Manzano.

Tila nabunutan ng tinik sa dibdib si John Lloyd ngayong namatay na ang isyung “vaginal lock” na pinagpiyestahan ng media. “Siyempre ngayon nagpapasalamat tayo dahil tapos na,” simula ni Lloydie. “Para bang hinintay lang na pag-usapan, marinig ‘yung mga sides ng (mga) taong involved. Pero sa totoo lang hanggang ngayon naman parang feeling ko napaka-walang kwento napaka hindi dapat binibigyan ng panahon.”

Idiniin ng aktor na naiintindihan niya ang nangyaring kontrobersya ay parte ng pagpasok niya sa showbiz pero hindi niya inasahang ganito magiging kagrabe ang isyu na kasasangkutan niya. “Naiintindihan ko kung ano ‘yung pinasok kong trabaho. Malaking parte ito ng pinasok kong trabaho so ang sa akin lang sabi ko nga it’s alarming already na ang ibang tao sa business na ito can go that low.” Nakakatakot daw na sa halip na magtulungan ang mga tao sa industriya ay may mga taong mas pinipili na manira ng ibang tao.

Sa kabilang banda, sinabi naman ni Angel na wala pang balikang nangyayari sa kanila ng dating boyfriend na si Luis Manzano. “Safe ko talagang masasabi hindi kami pero we’re hoping,” pag-amin ng aktres. “Mahirap kasing magsalita sa ngayon basta ako masasabi ko importante sa akin si Luis. Hindi naman magbabago ‘yon marami na kaming pinagsamahan.” At sa ngayon daw ay hindi pa niya masabi kung saan patutungo ang kanilang magandang samahan. “Parang hindi ko pa alam, hindi pa rin namin alam kung saan pupunta. Ayoko rin namang pangunahan, parang bahala na lang po. Huwag ding pipilitin.”

Sa kabilang banda, sa pagtatambal nina Lloydie at Angel sa primetime teleserye na Imortal, wala raw namamagitang ilangan sa pagitan ni Angel at Shaina, girlfriend ni John Lloyd. “Nagkatrabaho din kami sa Lobo and si Shaina mas matagal ho siya sa industriyang ito, so mas naiintindihan niya ang ganitong bagay,” pahayag ni Angel.

KC Concepcion Talks About Mariel Rodriguez

Nagsalita na rin si KC Concepcion sa The Buzz kahapon hinggil sa isyung sinabi umano ni Mariel Rodriguez na bakit nauna pang nagkaroon ng show ang anak ng Megastar, ang Simply KC, kahit na mas nauna diumano siya sa showbiz. “Hindi ko narinig ‘yon straight from her, usap-usapan ‘yon,” simula ni KC. “At the same time kung totoo man ‘yon, mahal ko ‘yung show ko, mahal ko ‘yung trabaho ko, in the same way na mahal niya ang trabaho niya.” Idiniin din ni KC na nabiyayaan siya ng show at walang impluwensiya kahit pa ang kanyang ina. “Hindi rin involved ‘yung mom ko sa mga dealings ko with ABS-CBN so hindi rin naman siguro dahil sa kanya nabigay ‘yung show. Let’s all be happy for each other.”

Hindi raw niya nakausap si Mariel pagkatapos ng nasabing isyu at hindi raw niya alam kung ano ang sasabihin niya kung sakaling magkaharap sila. “Andami kong narinig. So parang I don’t know what to say to her, (or) where will I start? She’ll deny she said anything pero marami rin akong naririnig from not just one person.” Mas gusto raw niya ang sinasabihan siya nang direkto kesa dinadaan sa iba ang hindi gusto sa kanya. “Ako kasi I’m very direct, kung totoong friend ka, kasi nagti-text-an naman kami (ni Mariel) before o kahit hindi mo ako kaibigan, kung meron kang gustong sabihin tungkol sa akin, kung kaya mong sabihin sa ibang tao, dapat kaya mo ring sabihin sa harap ko.”

Ipinaliwanag rin ni KC ang kasabihang kung may usok, may apoy at sa showbiz naman ay minsan may usok kahit walang apoy na nangangahulugang ang mga sumbong sa kanya hinggil sa diumano’y sinabi ni Mariel tungkol sa kanya ay maaaring may katotohanan o wala. “So minsan ako personally hindi ko na alam ko ano ‘yung paniniwalaan because she’s denying it, at the same time she will deny it I know kung i-confront ko rin siya nang harap-harapan. Pero hindi rin kasi maiiwasan ‘yung doubt na bakit andaming hindi magkakakilala na nagsasabi sa akin na may sinabi siya na iba-iba. I’m not saying kino-confirm ko na siya (ay guilty).”

Sa huli, sinabi ni KC na ang isyu ng nasirang pagkakaibigan kina Toni at Mariel at ang pagkakadawit ng iba pa ay tungkol sa tiwala. “Hindi mo hinihingi (ang trust), binibigay sa ‘yo. So trust is earned, hindi nabibili, hindi nade-demand, hindi mo ‘yon mauutos sa isang tao.”

Paglilinaw rin ni KC na masaya siya para kay Mariel sa kanyang bagong buhay may asawa sa kabila man ng isyung kinasasangkutan nilang lahat.

Imortal Premieres Tonight on Primetime Bida!

ABS-CBN continues its celebration of the 60 years of Pinoy Soap Opera with a new Primetime Bida offering, Imortal. The action-fantaserye marks the first team up of two of the hottest and most acclaimed stars of this generation, John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin. Imortal follows the story of the centuries-old war between vampires and werewolves. The battle will see its culmination in the bloody clash of the anointed descendants from each tribe. But what if the vampire and the werewolf fall in love with one another? Will they defy destiny to follow the call of their hearts?

Angel plays Lia, the half human-half werewolf who is out to redeem the disparaged honor of her parents. Angel has done numerous action-fantaserye in the past, the last one being Lobo wherein her performance earned her a Best Actress nomination from the International Emmy Awards. The actress admitted feeling the pressure of making Imortal as successful as Lobo. “Sa kahit anong project na ginagawa natin may pressure. Pero hindi na dapat iniisip masyado ‘yun. Dapat ang nasa isip mo lang is kung paano mapapaganda ‘yung trabaho mo. Hindi na dapat nagiisip ng bad vibes. Dapat puro positive things na lang para positive vibes din ‘yung dala mo pagdating sa set. Kapag may pressure kasi mas lalo mong hindi nagagawa nang maayos ‘yung trabaho mo. Dapat hindi ka na lang nagpapaapekto sa pressure.”

On the other hand, John Lloyd makes his first venture in the action-fantaserye genre. The premiere actor-leading man is more known for his remarkable drama and romantic projects. Playing Mateo, John Lloyd said Imortal has everything that makes him feel excited as an actor. “Ngayon lang ako sasabak sa genre na may halong fantasy. In the past years ang mga ginagawa ko puro lang base sa real life. Drama, romantic comedy. Dito sa Imortal medyo nangangapa pa ako. Excited ako na bago siyang genre. Para akong inilagay sa ibang realidad. Kung dati ang tingin ko sa isang script o journey e ito lang, ngayon mas malawak na kasi may halo ng fantasy. Plus bagong leading lady pa so nakaka-excite talaga itong project na ‘to.”

Imortal also stars Maricar Reyes, Rico Blanco, Jomari Yllana, Jake Roxas, Vivian Velez, Johnny Revilla, and Jaime Fabregas. The pilot week was directed by Chito Roño, the genius behind box-office horror films Feng Shui and Sukob. Also at the helm of Imortal are directors Trina Dayrit (Tayong Dalawa) and Jerry Lopez Sineneng (Kahit Isang Saglit).

Denise Laurel's Birthday With Rafael Rosell

A topless Rafael Rosell surprised Denise Laurel with a birthday cake recently in a special celebration organized for her by the staff of the hit teleserye “Martha Cecilia’s Kristine.”

The 23-year-old actress was busy taping for their show when her leading man led the well-wishers in greeting her a happy birthday. “It was so funny and memorable. It was very sweet,” Denise shared.

Rafael’s surprises didn’t end there as he also bought Denise a nice and relaxing chair she can use during taping. “Sa Bud Brothers pa lang humihirit na siya na ng ‘bili n’yo ‘ko ng upuan. Lapit na birthday ko.’ So I think it’s my duty as her ka-loveteam to fulfill that wish,” explained the hunk actor.

When asked about his sweet gestures for the other half of the most sensual on-screen sweethearts, Rafael said he just wanted to let her know he’s there for her.

“Kung anuman yung plano niya sa birthday niya, sa kanya na ‘yun. I just want her to know na nandito lang ako. I’m just a text away,” he said.

Denise said she is celebrating one of the best birthdays in her life especially because of the success of “Kristine.” The show, despite its late timeslot, remains a must-see for Filipinos who simply can’t sleep without watching the kilig moments and thrilling confrontations in “Kristine.”

Shaina Magdayao and Jason Abalos Pair Up The Second Time Around on Alyna

After being paired in “Kambal sa Uma” and other TV projects, the young stars are together again on the leading afternoon drama series “Precious Hearts Romances Presents Alyna” on ABS-CBN’s Hapontastic.

Jason revealed they have become different persons since their first show together, only because they have matured as actors.

“Mas nahihiya akong humarap ngayon kay Shaina kasi sobrang hirap ng characters. Kaya umaga pa lang ng taping, sobrang nagpre-prepare na ‘ko,” said the award-winning actor.

The 2008 Gawad Urian Best Actor also praised his leading lady, who is currently taking on the most daring role in her 15-year career.

“Ngayon kasi ‘pag umiiyak siya, mas may laman, may pinanggagalingan. Mas mature na siya ngayon as an actress,” he adds.

Shaina, dubbed as the Princess of Hearts, has been receiving praises from all over for her riveting performance as Alyna. She admitted though, that her family is still adjusting to her new and sexier image.

“They know naman from the beginning kung saan pupunta ang character ko kaya handa na sila. Nag-comment lang ang brother-in-law ko. He’s not used to seeing me wearing things like that daw (white lingerie),” quipped the young star.

Her boyfriend John Lloyd Cruz, meanwhile, is very cool about the project, even her love scenes, Shaina revealed. “He’s very happy naman with this project. He already worked with Direk FM Reyes so he knows the treatment,” she added.

This week, because Alyna gave birth prematurely, she is forced to stay and work in Rancho Del Carmen until her baby is in the best of health. Pokwang's Endangered Species

Pokwang gears up for her first major concert.

Her time has come. The country’s Comedy Princess, Pokwang, is geared up for her first major concert entitled “Endangered Species” sure to bring out the animal-of-a-comedienne in her starting October 15 until October 17 at the Aliw Theater, produced by Camera Entertainment Production and line-produced by ASAP Live.

The different facets of Pokwang will be uncloaked in front of hundreds of people in her three-night show. Unleashing every piece of talent she has—from singing to dancing, from acting and impersonating, Pokwang will surely fill the whole venue with laughs and giggles. “Noong rehearsal palang tawa na kami ng tawa. Tiyak talaga na lahat ng manonood uuwi ng luhaan… luhaan dahil sa kakatawa,” Pokwang enthused.

Pokwang, though hurled by intrigues every now and then, has remained strong throughout her six-year old career in show business. “Alam ko noong pumasok ako sa showbiz na pagdadaanan ko ang mga intriga,” Pokwang shared. She added, “Pero ‘di yoon rason para panghinaan ako ng loob. Tuloy pa rin ang buhay siyempre. Tuloy pa rin ang pagbibigay ng saya. Eto nga at may isa na namang opportunity para makapagbigay aliw sa mga tao.”

The Clown in a Million Grand Winner revealed that though she has performed several times in front of thousands of people, Pokwang still finds it nerve-racking to perform in front of a crowd, big or small. “Hanggang ngayon ninenerbyos pa rin ako. Paano kung hindi matawa sakin yung mga tao ‘di ba? (laughs) Ako na lang tatawa sa sarili ko,” Pokwang quipped.

Cinema One Originals 2011 Application Now Open!

Currently on its 6th year, the famed Cinema One Originals for the first time will choose 10 finalists for 2011!

This is great news for upcoming screenplay writers, actors and directors as Cinema One further fuels the local film industry. Start working on your original stories as Cinema One is now accepting new entries. The deadline of submission is on January 14, 2011.

The Cinema One Originals 2011 will also give new writers and filmmakers great freedom because there is no specific theme to follow. Like the previous successful Cinema One Originals, a P1,000,000.00 grant will be awarded to each of the chosen ten (10) finalists to produce their movie.

Interested filmmakers must submit a completed screenplay with a corresponding updated curriculum vitae or resume and application form. The application form is available at the Cinema One office 8th floor of ELJ Building ABS-CBN or through online at Cinema One official website. A representative of each film group must sign the application form to be eligible in the 2011 Cinema One Originals project. The formal announcement of the 10 finalists will be made on March 2011.

Cinema One Originals has contributed to closing the gap between commercial filmmaking and the more arthouse/indie approach ad reflected in the 36 films it has produced through the years through this annual project. Notable titles are : Confessional, Yanggaw, North Diversion Road, Imburnal, Huling Balyan ng Buhi, Rome & Juliet, Dose, Paano Ko Sasabihin, Wanted:Border and many more.
